Re: [Felvtalk] Ittle Bitty
Sometimes meds prescribed by drs. have worse isde effects than the problem they are prescribed for. My father was on Flomax and it made him super dizzy andhe fell 3 times before I heard a commercial on TV that said it makes your blood pressure drop when you stand up. A day later, I heard a commercial for Avadart. It goes after the cause, not the symptoms and dos not have that effect. My blood pressure meds made me dizzy so I stopped them. Someties you have to weigh the good vs the bad of meds befre taking them. One the dr. was going to pescribe for me can cause Lymphoma. I just spent several years of hell/chemo getting rid of lymphoma. Why wuld I take a med that can cause it? Re: [Felvtalk] Ittle Bitty
Sally, I have no idea if this input will be helpful or not, as I know these neurological issues can be very vague and differ from case to case and I don't want to give you false hope. We have a formerly feral rescue kitty, Marlee, who showed up at the colony one day staggering/head tilt/disoriented. It was a bout of vestibular syndrome, along with Hyper T, and she did mostly recover. However, a year later, she had either a second vestibular bout/relapse--or possible a stroke--which left her unable to stand on her own for several weeks, close to 2 months I think. She was not paralyzed, but couldn't stand. They gave her supportive nursing care and each week saw improvement. Had there not been slow, gradual but clear signs of improvement, the vets may have felt differently about treating. However, she did get through it and is now (months later) the healthiest and strongest she's been since we've known her, and given her reliance on humans during her down time, now completely social. She's an adorable little long hair torti point Siamese and now after 2 years in foster, finally ready for a home, we just don't know how to find someone we can trust since if she relapsed and couldn't stand again, she could sadly be put down. Anyway--I have no idea how much of a miracle her story is, but she did recover slowly but surely. Again, each week saw progress in the right direction as far as her movement and such went. Cautious optimism, as Diane said, is a good way of putting it. Her vitals/organ function was good, as was her mental state, which also gave optimism. Please keep us posted, sending good wishes to Itty Bitty! The only lingering neuro. signs we are seeing with Marlee are that she licks (licks US) obsessively, and is extremely animated and silly...but in a good, happy way it seems. Her life has really turned around, she was once a feral in the worst hood where we fear for our lives feeding every night...now we just need to a find a home that's worthy for this little princess! I know several dogs with similar symptoms who ended up having TICK PARALYSIS. I don't know if that happens with cats or not but you might want to check. As soon as the vet used a special tick collar called PrevenTix the dog that was completely paralysed was up and walking again. He is now a service dog. Again, don't know if similar can happen to cats and if there is a PrevenTix collar for cats but suggest you check? Kat On 6/25/11, Casper casper...@gmail.com wrote: After you talk with the vet you will make the right decision. One data point is a kitten we rescued a few years ago had the dry form of FIP but was so alert and alive we decide to treat her symptoms till it no longer made sense. Towards the end she lost the use of her back legs and would drag herself around - which sounds pathetic but only if you never met her ... she was all kitten in her heart and would joyfully play and have fun. We kept her to a confined area and cleaned up after her several times a day. Towards the end everyday we asked ourselves if she was having more joy than discomfort. Of course finally we had to let her go. Your love for IttyBitty will guide you to the right decision. Any one here with experience with this sort of problem? I am wondering how he will be once he is home. If there is going to be no improvement that would not be good. The Vet should be calling later any feedback would be a great help. And Melinda I hope VooDoo come back soon. I have been in your shoes before. Re: [Felvtalk] Ittle Bitty
ticks have been horrible. Thing is I witnessed the event and was all the sudden. GOod thought. I hope is is a little better in the AM. Vet wants an update and as of now I would have to say no better no worse. No quality of life either. We kept her to a confined area and cleaned up after her several times a day. Towards the end everyday we asked ourselves if she was having more joy than discomfort. Of course finally we had to let her go. Your love for IttyBitty will guide you to the right decision. Re: [Felvtalk] Ittle Bitty
Here are vibes for your baby. I don't have any specifics but I do know that depending on the cause, this kind of condition MAY be survivable and even reversible. The thing is that there are quite a few things that can cause this -- an inflammation, a stroke, a tumor pressing, etc. etc., and each has its own survival/recovery rate. I've recently heard of a kitty regaining much of her function after looking really dire at the vet's. So I guess cautious optimism is the key here. Here's hoping! Hang in there, Bitty! Re: [Felvtalk] Ittle Bitty
Sally, My Pebbles was very disfigured when she had her stroke two years ago from today :( My vet also stated she was not in any pain, but she said she could live with it, it just would not be a good life. Her front legs were going two different directions and her head remained turned. She would never straighten out, therefore, she was unable to walk. With her age of 17 1/2, and had diabetes most of her life along with CRF, and thyroid issues, I chose to put her to rest. You will need to decide what is best for Little Bitty after your vet discusses the options with you. I'm sure you will make the right decision. I wish I could have told you that my experience with my kitty had a better outcome. Sending positive thoughts your way! Thank you Lynda. I am definately considering quality of life here, BC as it is he would be soiling himself. Also am waiting to hear what the vet thinks. I have several seniors and he is the last one I would have thought would have problems, but you never know. I just wrote about my cats - I would definitely suggest to the vet that it could be a blood clot! Ask him ASAP!
