[Finale] FinaleScript

2004-03-18 Thread Harold Owen
Dear Wisdom,

How do I indicate in FinaleScript to remove measure numbers from a
particular staff? I know that manually, I choose the Staff Tool,
double-click on the staff, and remove the check from Measure
Numbers.

TIA

[Finale] FinaleScript

2004-02-18 Thread Mr. Liudas Motekaitis
Win 2000, Finale 2004, FinaleScript:

FinaleScript Find and Replace feature doesn't work for Text Blocks which
are assigned to more than one page.

The following line:

search [Arial] 7 bold replace with [Times] 12

does nothing to a text block which has Arial 7 bold fonts in it until you
assign that text block to one page only. Then it works.

2004-02-18 Thread Mr. Liudas Motekaitis
I just tried this:

search aaa replace with xxx

on a freshly made text block with aaa as the content (without the
quotation marks).

I assigned it to all pages.

No go.

I then assigned it to pages 2-99.

No go.

I then assigned it to this page only.

Turns into xxx upon running the script.

Nothing else in the script.

Are you on Windows 2000 and Finale 2004?

I'm afraid I disagree. I've changed the font of a running title on all
pages but the first in several files with Finalescript. I just tried it
 again and it works.

 My script reads:
 search [Jenson] replace [Arial]

I'm running MacFin2k4 on OS X 10.2.8. Regardless of the number of
pages on which the text block displays, both 'search aaa replace with
xxx' and 'search aaa replace xxx' achieve the desired result.

However, my thought is that possibly changing your syntax just a bit
may work. Will it perform as desired if you remove the word with and
just use search X replace Y?

2004-01-13 Thread David H. Bailey
I agree with Dennis on this point -- it would be of great value to all
Finale users, and those who aren't interested can filter those messages
out or simply hit the delete key.

Maybe not all the members have upgraded to Fin2004, but eventually they
will upgrade to Fin2005 or Fin2006 and I can't see Coda putting
Finalescript into this version and then dropping it for future versions.
So eventually we'll all profit from learning about it. It might even
become a reason for some who haven't upgraded yet to make the leap to
Fin2004.

I don't view it the same as programming plug-ins, which needs
programming skills -- any of us can create finalescripts, if we can ever
find the time to get started with it.

The discussion should remain on this list.

I would prefer, unless there are too many objections, to use this same

this Finale Script feature as soon as I have the time, but current projects
do not allow this. I think Johannes is in a similar situation, as he wrote a
similar post to this list a while ago, too. I do not feel, though, that a

be just as easy for anyone to filter it out of their mail as presently with

I think that since the finalescript is supposed to be something
everybody can do (as opposed to programming plug-ins, which required
practice progamming in C or C++ and downloading the PDK) it would be
good to keep the discussion about it on this list without opening a new

We might all benefit from having our eyes opened by those who are
willing to pioneer the use of finalescript.

I vote for keeping the discussion here.

Subject: RE: FinaleScript - keyboard shortcuts?

Dear Brad,

I'm very sorry, this is a mistake. I just spoke with the person in
charge of
this material on our website, and he will fix it. I believe we had
originally intended to have them assignable to keystrokes, but that
feature
got dropped due to a lack of time.

Again, I apologize for misleading you. If this is a make-it or break-it
feature for you, please feel free to return the product. We do have a 1
month return policy.
The website has been changed to read, Easily create your own set of
commands that Finale will perform with a simple mouse click. But even
this is untrue! It takes 1-2 clicks to open the plug-in (depending on
whether you hold the button down while going through the plug-in list),
possibly several clicks to locate and select the desired script
(depending on how many are in the list and on the location of the
desired script) and then another click to invoke it!

If you care about this functionality, please write to MakeMusic!
support. Mac users, there may still be time for them to add it if
enough requests are made!

Component Files FinaleScript.dat holds all of the scripts.

This is merely a text file; the header for each individual script is

Wow! I never knew you could verb a verb! Verbing of nouns is
commonplace, but verbing of verbs is something new to me!

What does automate mean, then, if not to make automatic?

I did look up automatize after reading Andrew's post and found it in my
Webster's New Collegiate Dictionary. Definition 1 is to make automatic.
 Definition 2 is to automate.

So I looked up Automate in the same dictionary: to convert to
automation, to use techniques of automation. Looking up automation, the
definition is a bit too long to quote here, but basically it is where
processes are automatically performed by machinery, electronic devices,
etc. Sure sounds the same as using a finalescript to AUTOMATE processes.

Sounds the same to me. Guess it's better though to use 4 syllables when
3 will do.

I also guess I better read my dictionary more regularly. Would that be
to regularize my readingness of the dictionary. Or would that be more
modernly stated as I had better dictionarize more frequently?

Interesting linguistic times we live in!

Thanks for setting me straight!

course, the specs for 10.3 aren't fixed yet, so this requirement may
change. If true, that would really be unfortunate, considering that
all the raves about greatly improved performance on Rev. A iMacs and
the like. I guess we'll have to wait and see.

[Finale] FinaleScript question

2003-08-14 Thread Brad Beyenhof
To somebody that knows:

In FinaleScript, will it be possible to set a key combination to choose
an item from a menu? For example, a keyboard shortcut to select a tool
from the Tools menu or to open a TGTools plugin.

I guess what I'm really asking is: will there be a reason to upgrade to
QuicKeys X2, or will most of its functionality (I primarily use
QuicKeys within Finale) be covered by the Fin2k4 upgrade?

FWIW, the next release of OS X (Panther) will have a customizable macro
system built in, which is supposed to include menu actions if I remember
correctly.

Brad, I haven't found any documentation on the FinaleScript stuff, but
it
looks to me like you will be able to choose menu items by keystroke.
By the
way, TGTools can do key-to-menu mappings as well (at least on windows,
I'm
assuming that mac is similar).
Nope, Mac doesn't have keyboard shortcuts within TGTools.

Unless your machine doesn't take it. Apparently 10.3 needs Macs with
on-board USB, which my Wallstreet doesn't have. Or does anyone know better?

However, if I'm going to need that sort of operability outside of
