Allen,

Thanks for the tip. However before I received it, I got so crazed with the paper jam-ups that I went to spales.com and bought an HP 2300 Laserjet. I only do 8½ x 11 prints anyway, and I hope I didn't do a stupid thing.

I'll keep you posted.

[Finale] New Printer for Finale

2003-08-14 Thread Oboe1000
I know this has come up before, but I never needed to pay attention until now!

My printer's (NEC 1450N) been acting up big time as far as paper feed, and it's making me crazy. I'm thinking of getting a new laser, probably HP. However, do I need it to "speak" PostScript? I paid a lot extra for PostScript last time, because I thought it was required for ATM fonts and/or printing EPS files. Is that still the case?

Thanks for any input.

- Ken

Ken--

Check out my thread from the last couple days--I recommend a Ricoh AP 2610.
Large format laser, 1200dpi PS level 3. $600.

Do you do all your own printing, or do some of the files you generate get
printed by a commercial shop? In the latter case, I'd suggest getting
a printer with postscript capability, because almost all commercial digital
printing equipment is set up for postscript support, and if you have that
as well, you will be able to see the exact file that the printer is using.
If none of your output now, and if you expect that none of your output
in the future will go to a commerical shop, then there may not be the need
for a postscript quality machine, and if there is, the machine Alan referred
to is priced competitively with non PS ones.
