Re: [Fink-beginners] Mozilla mail immediate breakdown

2002-11-22 Thread Alexander Hansen
I've had it working on my dual G4 with no real problems. Others have
had much more difficulty with Mozilla than I.

Hi Jan

Did you do the big exercise after you fixed the problem with RAM?
(reinstalling whole system/fink etc.)

yes I did all that - I did a clean install of 10.2 on to a newly
partitioned HD, (10.2 on one, 9 on the other partition), upgraded to
10.2.2 and 9.2, installed 10.2 developer tools and all updates (in
order, including Oct), built fink from the Jag clean install page
(0.11.0), installed X11, played with XGalaga for a while using twm
(i.e. I think it was all installed OK), then installed gnome and it ran
fine too, then installed mozilla, and the browser worked but the mail
crashed ... hence email to finklist :)

Just a stupid question.

no, it's a fair one

Jan

;-) BTW: with the RAM problem I was expecting the problem to be either
memory chip or memory controller.

yeah, well it's always possible my logic about the PC100/PC133
incompatibility was wrong - since if the PC100 was really and truly
faulty in some way, then removing it would fix it. I assumed that
since the c compiler started working OK (i.e. not crashing) after
removing the PC100 stick, it must have been crashing due to the
instability caused by having a mixture of PC100 and PC133 memory sticks
in the computer. Having said that, it was a bit suspicious that the
mozilla mail error was a bus error, which was similar to the problems I
had before - but on searching the fink archives it seemed I wasn't the
only one to experience the mozilla issue so I am hoping that it's not
still a problem with my computer. The local Apple shop have already
charged me $300 ($NZ that is - about US$150) to play with it for a few
weeks and then remove another one of my PC133 sticks.

Cheers, David.

[Fink-beginners] Mozilla mail immediate breakdown

2002-11-21 Thread David Orlovich
Hello there.

I've got a problem that Mozilla mail crashes shortly after running. The first time I ran it I got as far as configuring my setup (servers etc) and then it asked for my password - which I entered and checked the box to remember it with password manager. Then it crashed.

In terminal.app, it outputs a line that says:

/sw/bin/mozilla: line 99: 18610 Bus error   $MOZ_PROGRAM ${1+"$@"}

which is the same error as reported by Heinz Nabielek, but there was no solution offered in the thread.

I am running mozilla-mailnews 1.1.0-4

Any help appreciated :) Cheers, David Orlovich

Quite consistently, Mozilla fails when mail is activated.

However, only so on the original TiBook. When I do
it remotely via ssh, using Mozilla including Mail is
no problem.

Why?
