Do you have $LANG set correctly?

Another (GB) user of fink unison 2.10.2, Michael Fourman, confirms
that setting LANG solves the glib problem for him, and also provides
the helpful tip that 'locale -a' will give you a list of valid values
for LANG.

[You can set the locale permanently either by adding 'export
LANG=' to your ~/.bashrc or by editing your
~/.MacOSX/environment.plist. See [1] for detailsof the plist method]

Thanks Michael!

MANY Thanks!

  export LANG=en_GB.ISO8859-1

worked for me.

To see available locales run

locale -a

xorg-6.8.2-35 and all else in fink up to date unstable

Hey, what's this postgresql80-unified that's popped up recently, and how

It'd be nice to know which of the many variants I should use when I next
upgrade, thanks :) I currently have postgresql80-ssl installed.

The various -unified packages are indeed intended to replace both the
old -ssl and non-ssl versions of the relevant package with an
SSL-enabled version that links to the system's OpenSSL rather than
fink's package, and thereby:

1) It can live in the main tree rather than under crypto.
2) It can be distributed in binary form.
3) Only one variant need be maintained--which also means that users
won't have to worry about inadvertently mixing non-ssl with -ssl
versions when selecting dependencies for a build.

In this case I shouldn't think the X11 flavor would matter--libiconv
has no dependency on x11.

What's your current version of libiconv?

And if you run otool -L /sw/lib/libiconv.2.dylib what do you get?
For purposes of comparison, I have libiconv-1.10-5, which gives me:

$ otool -L /sw/lib/libiconv.2.dylib
/sw/lib/libiconv.2.dylib:
   /sw/lib/libiconv.2.dylib (compatibility version 6.0.0, current
version 6.0.0)
   /usr/lib/libgcc_s.1.dylib (compatibility version 1.0.0,
current version 1.0.0)
   /usr/lib/libmx.A.dylib (compatibility version 1.0.0, current
version 92.0.0)
   /usr/lib/libSystem.B.dylib (compatibility version 1.0.0,
current version 88.0.0)

fink list libiconv
Information about 4853 packages read in 9 seconds.
i libiconv 1.10-6 Character set conversion
library
 i libiconv-bin 1.10-6 Executables for libiconv
package
 i libiconv-dev 1.10-6 Developer files for
libiconv package

 otool -L /sw/lib/libiconv.2.dylib
/sw/lib/libiconv.2.dylib:
/sw/lib/libiconv.2.dylib (compatibility version
6.0.0, current version 6.0.0)
/usr/lib/libgcc_s.1.dylib (compatibility version
1.0.0, current version 1.0.0)
/usr/lib/libmx.A.dylib (compatibility version 1.0.0,
current version 92.0.0)
/usr/lib/libSystem.B.dylib (compatibility version
1.0.0, current version 88.0.0)

that looks pretty similar except for being one version newer
than yours...and just to be sure:

ls -l /sw/lib/libiconv.2.dylib
   0 lrwxr-xr-x1 root admin 20 Sep 7 08:10
/sw/lib/libiconv.2.dylib - libiconv.2.3.0.dylib

ls -l /sw/lib/libiconv.2.3.0.dylib
1220 -rw-r--r--1 root admin 1248052 Sep 7 08:09
/sw/lib/libiconv.2.3.0.dylib

which is about 12 hours older than the ooo build I was
running.

I have the build dir intact, and the last 10,000 or so lines
of the build log saved, so there is plenty to dig through if
you can suggest what to look for.

thanks...

The only thing I can imagine which might cause this is if the
openoffice.org build system is setting DYLD_LIBRARY_PATH during
building, so the /sw/lib/libiconv.2.dylib is not actually resolving
to the right thing. I'm cc-ing the maintainer so that this can be
investigated further.

[Fink-users] A problem with gmp package.

2005-09-08 Thread Andrea Riciputi

Hi all,
after re-installing Fink under Tiger I've noticed the folder /share/
info at the root of my disk. Inside that folder there are the
following files:

Totila:~ andrea$ ls -al /share/info/
total 936
drwxr-xr-x 8 root admin 272 Sep 8 15:41 .

Looking at the building log of the gmp package I've noticed the
following lines:

The problem is not with the ConfigureParams line, but with this eval
./configure $params line which does not work.

It would be much simpler and clearer to replace the lines that gave the
above by

case %m in
i386) ./configure %c --host=none-apple-darwin ;;
powerpc) ./configure %c ;;
esac

instead of trying to do string operations in sh.

None of them uses this broken eval trick.

[Fink-users] xfig

2005-09-08 Thread Tom Sgouros

Hello all:

Perhaps someone can get this to the maintainer of fink xfig.

'fink install xfig' works ok, except that it puts the configuration
files called 'Fig' and 'Fig-color' into the /sw/etc/app-defaults
directory. It appears that what usually goes into that directory is a
symbolic link to the real version of the files in
/etc/X11/app-defaults. As installed, xfig complains that it can't find
the files. The complaints stopped when I moved them and made these
links.

I'm using Apple's X11, on OSX 10.4. The fink package in question is
xfig-3.2.5-alpha.

Thanks,

Somebody in this case is the 10.3 binary distribution:

http://bindist.finkmirrors.net/bindist/dists/fink-0.7.2/main/binary-
darwin-=

powerpc/gnome/gnome-python2-py23_2.0.0-16_darwin-powerpc.deb

Download that and use sudo dpkg -i filename to install it

It works! ... Great.

P.S. The link is

It looks like an extra '=' was added to the link in the previous message

The /sw/etc/app-defaults dir is created by the app-defaults package,
which makes symlinks to the ones in the standard location and then
sets an environment variable to point X11 to the fink location. I see
that xfig-3.2.5-3 does have a dependency on app-defaults...check that
you have this package installed and that your shell is loading the
appropriate /sw/bin/init.* script.
