cpusubtype 100 is PPC970 = G5 (run otool -hv, it will tell you
ppc970). So this library was compiled on (and optimised for) a G5, and
it fails when you try to run it on a G4 or earlier.

Try if rebuilding gmp-shlibs solves your problem.

This looks like a problem with the gmp-shlibs package or perhaps a
libtool bug.

From the gmp build log I see that it uses the compile flag
-force_cpusubtype_ALL when it compiles the *.o objects, but it forgets
this flag when it links the dylibs. The flag is there on the libtool
command line, but not on the actual linker line; libtool drops it.

Srictly speaking, gmp would need to come in cpusubtype flavors.
Even if the -force_cpusubtype_ALL were used throughout, the resulting
binaries are not the same when compiled on G4 or on G5, because it uses
also the -mcpu=7450 or -mcpu=970 flags, depending on the build machine.

Run Control Center, go to Desktop-Behavior and uncheck Show icons
on desktop. The docs aren't really clear about it.

[Fink-users] afni install failure

2006-07-27 Thread Robert T Wyatt
Hi all,

On 10.4 with a ppc I encountered the following messages while trying to
install afni:

Unpacking afni (from .../afni_2.51e-12_darwin-powerpc.deb) ...

Manually removing qhull was the solution.

I'm not sure how the .info file should best be set up for afni to make
this more smoothe. That is, I don't know if it should be a conflict or a
replaces or what have you. I'll bet someone here knows though...!

Thanks,

Or the qhull executable from either this package or qhull might be
moved out of the way--perhaps involving an extension to the PATH.

[Fink-users] 10.4 tree---do I have it?

2006-07-27 Thread jkolata
I thought that I had been using the 10.4 tree for some time.
However, when I typed
fink --version as per the note of 2006-07-24 I got Distribution
version: 0.8.0.rsync.
I then tried using the upgrade script, but it said that I was already
using the 10.4 tree
so I exited without running it. My sw/fink folder has both the 10.4
and the 10.4-transitional
trees. I generally use Fink Commander, and the table says that I
have 5708 packages
displayed and 361 installed.

So...am I using the 10.4 tree or not? If not, should I try to run
the upgrade script?
I am reluctant to blow away my existing fink installation since all
the installed
packages are working fine and I takes a very long time to recompile
them all.

Look at /sw/etc/fink.conf and see what the Distribution line says.

samba3 (which is required for kde's SMB support) is not ported in Fink,
so there is no SMB support in KDE. :(

I haven't really had a chance to look into porting it, I've got too much

 Try the following 2 commands:

See what the cpusubtype column says in each case. You may just need

Could you please tell me what you get from dpkg -l gmp-shlibs, and
whether you are using the binary distribution or not? (That is, did
you get gmp in binary form or did you build it yourself.)

Dave,

in case Andrew doesn't have this information about his ante-rebuilding
version any more, here is what I can see from several gmp-shlibs debs
lying around here:

In version 4.1.4 which is also in the bindist, the library is built with
cpusubtype=ALL, because the only relevant linker flag is -mpowerpc
(which, if I read my logfile correctly, gets dropped by libtool). So no
problem with this one.

In version 4.2 and 4.2.1, the library is built with cpusubtype=ppc970 on
a G5, because the relevant linker flags are -mpowerpc
-force_cpusubtype_ALL -mcpu=970, and the -force... gets dropped, but
the -m... flags make it onto the real linker line.

These must probably have been built with different libtool versions,
because the -mpowerpc is transmitted to the real linker line in one
version and not in the other one.

[Fink-users] Problems installing soqt21-dev

2006-07-27 Thread Philip Ershler
Hi,
I'm trying to install soqt21-dev. Everything seems to go fine until
right near the end. It does a install sanity check which results in
bogus. It then prints the following text about how to solve the
problem. I have already done a fink selfupdate and as you can see
below I have reordered my PATH as suggested. But I still get the same
result.
Any ideas?

Thanks, Phil

checking install sanity... bogus

The configure script picked out Qt's install program when trying to
find the system-wide install program. This probably happened because
you have QTDIR/bin too early in the path. During installation, you
would run into serious problems because of this.

Fix your PATH variable so the system-wide install program is found
instead of the Qt installer and re-run configure.

Before reporting any errors, please run fink selfupdate and
try again. If you continue to have issues, please check to see if the
FAQ on fink's website solves the problem. If not, ask on the fink-users

mailing

Shouldn't matter. Fink clears your PATH when it builds.

How about a little context? Maybe a couple lines of the output from
 just before the error.

I'm sorry, here's a bit more to go on.

Re: [Fink-users] Problems installing soqt21-dev

2006-07-27 Thread Kurt Schwehr
Hmmm... I just did a rebuild so soqt on my 10.4.7
laptop using fink 10.4 and was not able to reproduce
and trouble. I do see that I have a newer version of
qt3 installed compared to what you have. I know it
takes a long time, but it might be worth doing a self
update and then building the latest qt to see if there
is something up with older Qt versions. The other
thing is to make sure you do NOT have
DYLD_LIBRARY_PATH set.

fink rebuild soqt21
