This could be a missing dependency. If you install libcaca-dev, does
 gst-plugins build?

This happens with:

Information about 7055 packages read in 4 seconds.
caca 0.99.beta13b-1023 Colour AsCii Art library

The missing file is from pango1-xft2-dev.

However, this been killed off in the recent major update, so if you've
applied that then it shouldn't even be available. Do you have any
other packages on your system that need updating? I'd do them first
to make sure that any references to pango1-xft2 are expunged in favor
of pango1-xft2-ft219

I have a lot of packages that need updating. A couple of years ago I was
away from my computer for a few months and fell behind on updating fink
packages.

Thanks,

Emily

The problem is definitely circular dependencies with gnuplot in the loop
(gnuplot-nox seems fine). Since I use X11, I'm going to try the older binary
install of gnuplot to see if that works. Thanks.

Is anyone still seeing these circular dependencies?

If yes, I would like to see two things:

1. The output of

fink list libthai libdatrie

2. The list of packages that fink proposes to install at the moment when
the error shows up.

No, it fails with the same error.

You could start the hunt for the culprit on your machine by running

   grep libpangoxft-1.0.la /sw/lib/*.la

If anything shows up, use dpkg -S filename to find the package this
comes from. Then update this package.

I found 8 files with the above command, and I am now updating the 8
appropriate packages.

I suspect you can reproduce the problem by updating you

   fink update-all

 2.2.3).

We are talking about two different problems here:

Problem one is that wine does (or did until yesterday) not find X11 when
/usr/X11/bin/xmkmf is absent (which is the case if you have
xquartz-2.2.3 installed without prior X11 installation). This is a
standard problem for all packages that use X11, and there is a standard
fix which I applied to wine.info in 10.4/unstable. I forgot to apply it
in 10.4/stable, which I did just now. The version is still 1.1.0-1,
because these additional configure flags are inoffensive and don't
change the resulting deb file.

Problem two is the one I mentioned in my previous message. This one does
not look like it is related to X11. OTOH, it happens repeatably one one
machine that has xquartz-2.3.0-rc7 (and xcode-3.1) installed, and it
does not happen on another one (both 10.5.4/intel) that has stock X11

Hi Martin,

This looks vaguely familiar - do you have the iphone sdk installed? I
know it causes linking problems with wine, although this may not be the
exact same problem (will need to google around a bit). Could also try
to make a 1.1.1 package, and see if that helps...

Problem two is the one I mentioned in my previous message. This one does
not look like it is related to X11. OTOH, it happens repeatably one one
machine that has xquartz-2.3.0-rc7 (and xcode-3.1) installed, and it
does not happen on another one (both 10.5.4/intel) that has stock X11
 and xcode-3.0.

I compared the build logs between the two machines (the second one has
now successfully finished building wine), and there is absolutely no
difference before the error message.

After some more tests, I am now convinced that the problem lies with
xcode-3.1, more specifically with the new /usr/bin/ld. But what kind of
problem this really is, I don't know.

You could start the hunt for the culprit on your machine by running

If anything shows up, use dpkg -S filename to find the package this

I found 8 files with the above command, and I am now updating the 8

Could you let us know what they are? Often we can adjust the

those libs upgraded *before* sylpheed, for example).

If yes, I would like to see two things:

 1. The output of

 fink list libthai libdatrie

 2. The list of packages that fink proposes to install at the moment when
 the error shows up.

I ended up calling fink cleanup/selfupdate/update-all before attempting a fresh
install of gnuplot. The selfupdate output made changes in the dependency tree,
and I was able to install gnuplot and its dependencies without error.

I do have gtkmm2.4 and its shlibs and dev installed, but it seems to
be unrecognized. Fink selfupdate and update-all ran successfully, and
so did the installation of synfig (the command line tool). The GUI
synfigstudio requires unrealistic amounts of other dependencies
(because of swig, I think), so I cut down on those by getting
graphviz as a binary using dselect.

gail17-dev
libgnomecanvas2-dev
libgnomeprintui2.2-dev
libgnomeui2-dev
libgtkhtml2

After updating the above packages (and building and installing about 40

I also see the same thing with Xcode 3.1 . We do have the option to
flag the package with

/sw/lib/libpangoxft-1.0.la is supposed to be installed by pango1-xft2-
dev, i.e. one of the splitoffs of a former version of the package
you're trying to build. This doesn't seem right.

On the other hand, pangot1-xft2 is supposed to be obsolete. See if
you can remove it, and pango1-xft2-shlibs. Then you won't have to
update it.

It is possible!

PowerBook 1.67MHz PPC, 10.5.4, Dev. Tools 3.0, X112.2.3, unstable

All now up-to-date on my very old legacy(?) install through Fink. Many
false starts, much removal and replacement of older pkgs, and a
gradual whittling down proved successful.

I'm still working on the Intel iMac.

Thanks!

I currently have pango1-xft2 1.10.1-1006 installed, and am trying to
update. The build fails with the following message:

I have OS X 10.5.4, I'm still using XCode 3.0, and fink --version gives:
 Package manager version: 0.28.5
 Distribution version: selfupdate-rsync Sat Jul 19 14:33:36 2008, 10.5, i386

Sounds like one of the dependencies is out-of-date (that libpangoxft
is obsolete and nothing should be using it anymore). Could you post
the results of 'fink list -ot' (a list of all out-of-date packages)?

I *think* gtkspell2 might be the culprit. Try to 'fink update
gtkspell2-dev' and then see if xchat (I *think* that's the package you
are trying/failing to build?) builds.
