[Fink-users] fontconfig2-dev-2.4.1-104

2008-11-29 Thread Akio Sakai
Hi

$ fink update-all
Information about 7480 packages read in 1 seconds.
Can't resolve dependency system-xfree86-dev (= 2:7.2-1) for package
fontconfig2-dev-2.4.1-104 (no matching packages/versions found)
Exiting with failure.

What is wrong?

I tried the recipe in the previous mail attached. But it did not work
well.

sudo dpkg --remove --force-depends xorg xorg-
 shlibs

It said no such xorg* were installed and having disregarded such
instruction.
Although I disregarded such notice and reinstalled the said packages,
the same error message appeared.

Sincerely,
Akio

 Ah. Here's the problem:

 - skipping X11 virtuals, existing X11 packages installed
 - xorg is installed
 - xorg-shlibs is installed

Since fink still thinks that its xorg package is installed, the
 system-
 xfree86 packages aren't getting created.

You'll need to run sudo dpkg --remove --force-depends xorg xorg-
shlibs and then reinstall X11 2.3.1 as well as the X11 SDK from
 Xcode.

Hard to say without further information about your situation. For
starters, tell us

1. Which version of MacOSX you are running
2. Which X11 do you have installed
3. What does fink list xfree86 show?

Also; if you run

fink-virtual-pkgs --debug

that will display what fink is looking for and not finding--look in
the output for

- checking for library libX11.6.dylib... found in /usr/X11R6/lib

to see where the block of output related to X11 begins.

2008-11-29 Thread Francis Poulin
Hello,

(Mac 10.5.5, Xcode 3.1.2 on my MacBook Pro)

I updated my system to 10.5.5 and I now have X11 2.1.5.
Unfortunately, when I try and update-all I get the following message.
It seems that there's a problem finding usr/X11/lib/libfontconfig.la
I checked the directory and all I have is

/usr/X11/lib/libfontconfig.1.1.0.dylib /usr/X11/lib/libfontconfig.
1.3.0.dylib /usr/X11/lib/libfontconfig.1.dylib /usr/X11/lib/
libfontconfig.dylib

I noticed there were other -emails about fontconfig. Are these issues
related maybe?

Cheers,
Francis

There are two problems here. The first is that libgd really needs
to ensure that it links to fink's libpng3. The other is that it
looks like your X11 stuff is older than what your gd2 was built with
(if you got it from the binary distribution this would be the
case). The X11 update from 10.5.2 should suffice.

Also: I don't think we're quite ready to support Xcode 3.1.2--you
may encounter difficulties in building packages.

Unfortunately, when I try and update-all I get the following message.
It seems that there's a problem finding usr/X11/lib/libfontconfig.la

The problem is that the X11SDK.pkg from xcode-3.1.2 does no longer
provide these *.la files which the libtool build system - and therefore
Fink - relies on. Until Fink finds a strategy to deal with this
situation, you have to use one of the following workarounds:

1. Either install one of the older X11SDK.pkg's from an earlier xcode
version, 3.0 or 3.1.1. Then reinstall the X11SDK.pkg from xcode-3.1.2 on
top of it. In this way, you will get to keep the *.la files from the
older X11SDK.pkg. These have various bugs, depending on which xcode
version they come from (this is the reason Apple nuked them - they
didn't seem capable of fixing the bugs definitively, because the guys
who prepare the X11User.pkg and the ones who prepare the X11SDK.pkg are
not in sync.)

2. Or switch to the latest of the xquartz updates from the macosforge
site. Until now, these still have the *.la files (they also come in a
single package, the artificial split into X11User.pkg and X11SDK.pkg
hasn't happened there.) They have threatened, though, that one of the
next versions will come without *.la files, too.

Currently, the workaround 2 is more bug-free, but you have to be aware
of the fact that if you switch to the xquartz update, you will be pretty
much unable to switch back to stock Leopard X11.

You have an old X11 package for MacOSX 10.4 from Fink installed. Remove it:

   sudo -r --force-depends xfree86 xfree86-shlibs

Then reinstall whatever X11 installation you had (either X11User.pkg
from a system DVD or from a combo update dmg + X11SDK.pkg from xcode dev

download and install

[Fink-users] Cannot switch to unstable tree

Thanks, but even with selfupdate-rsync, I'm still getting File Not
Found errors and WARNING: Failure while updating indexes.

Here's the exact sequence of steps I'm following:

1. Wipe out the previous Fink installation with sudo rm -rf /sw
2. Run Fink 0.9.0 Binary Installer for Intel (I'm on a MacBook Pro

Am I still doing something wrong? Thanks,

You have an old X11 package for MacOSX 10.4 from Fink installed.
 Remove it:

Then reinstall whatever X11 installation you had (either X11User.pkg

Thanks, but even with selfupdate-rsync, I'm still getting File Not

Here's the exact sequence of steps I'm following:

 1. Wipe out the previous Fink installation with sudo rm -rf /sw
 2. Run Fink 0.9.0 Binary Installer for Intel (I'm on a MacBook Pro

 3. Run fink selfupdate

I've pasted below a log showing some of the errors I get in step 5.

Am I still doing something wrong? Thanks,

Exiting with failure.

(Actually the same reprocess had been done though the number of

Is it more specific to fontconfig2-dev-2.4.1-104 or more general?

Hello again,

Thanks to Martin I fixed the X11 issue. However, when I do update-all
it gets stuck on install gstream. Is this another problem with Xcode
3.1.2? If so then maybe I'll install an earlier version.

Cheers,

Thanks to Martin I fixed the X11 issue. However, when I do update-all
it gets stuck on install gstream. Is this another problem with Xcode
3.1.2? If so then maybe I'll install an earlier version.

This was fixed in the gstreamer package a couple of hours ago. A
selfupdate should bring it to you.

[Fink-users] control-center vs. gnome-settings-daemon

Re: [Fink-users] control-center vs. gnome-settings-daemon

2008-11-29 Thread Stan Sanderson
David-

Thank you.

I followed your steps, except that I still had bundle-gnome installed
and gnome-session was a dependency. So I

1. Removed bundle-gnome
2. Removed gnome-session
3. Removed control-center
4. Installed gnome-settings-daemon
5. Installed control-center (successfully)

Gnome crashed on the first start but was happy on the second and
subsequent restarts.

Regards,

Stan

gnome-settings-daemon used to be part of control-center. Gnome has
split them into separate packages, so it's hard to make the upgrade
 smoothly.

The way I got around the conflict was to remove the current version
of control-center before trying to install the newer one. The only
thing I had installed that depended on control-center was gnome-
session, so I removed that first, then control-center. Then the new
control-center installed after pulling in gnome-settings-daemon as a
 dependency.
