[Fink-users] abiword

2010-12-04 Thread Matt Kozak
The independently available binaries for this are outdated (v2.4.5) and
haven't updated in ages (March 11, 2007).

So, I saw v2.8.4-3 in fink and decided to go for it, but it never gets off
the ground:
-
Can't resolve dependency libgoffice-0.8-shlibs for package
abiword-2.8.4-3 (no matching packages/versions found)
Exiting with failure.
-
...however, I see libgoffice-0.6 (0.6.6-2) in fink's list...?

Thanks,
-Matt

Yes, I was in the middle of writing a follow-up saying I'm using the default,
stable-only of the latest fink (just downloaded and installed it on this system
this morning) on the latest SL (same system as my ncl query), but got
sidetracked with getting ncl...

Thanks for adjusting the library - I'll keep an eye out for it later.

You can use fink show-deps abiword or fink dumpinfo -fdepends
-fbuilddepends abiword to get all of the dependencies, but you'd need
to process the output further to pass the results into fink list to
automate checking for any missing packages.

Yeah, I got the respective lists, but the next trick is to do some

Oops. I just now added that.

Thanks, I just had to handoff the laptop to head into the field, so I'll
be able to get back to this in a week or two.

Hopefully this was the last bit anyway.

Thanks again!

[Fink-users] Abiword lingage fails

2010-08-31 Thread Richard Miles
I am on 10.6.4 x-64 Snow Leopard. When building Abiword the linkage fails ld
symbol not found. Unfortunately I do not have the output as the size was too
big for a message to fink users list. Seems to be a conflict with office
ld symbols.

Go ahead and post that again. The size limits are advisory, and the
list moderators can approve messages even if they're big.

Or at least include _what_ symbols aren't found, because a symbol can
be literally almost anything.

I just committed a new revision that fixed it for me.

Still failed here, even with libgoffice-0.8 present. I had to add
-lintl to SetLDFLAGS for it to work.

Well, Martin, I checked your suggestions. Directories all look well
populated. The only difference I see is in [/sw/lib/X11/fonts/applettf/
] where the three fonts showing in AbiWord - Apple Symbols, Chalkboard
Geeza Pro - have arrows in the font icons, but none of the others
have the arrows.
I used Disk Utility to correct permissions.
(Wonder why KWord can find my fonts but AbiWord can't?)

fonts?
When it starts up, abiword makes symlinks from the fonts installed by
the applesystemfonts package in /sw/lib/X11/fonts/applettf/ to the
directory ~/.fonts. Several things could go wrong there:

- You don't have applesystemfonts installed. Strangely,
applesystemfonts is only a build dependency, not a runtime dependency
for abiword. So you could quite legally have it removed before
starting abiword. But you need it installed at least when you run
abiword for the first time.

- Your ~/.fonts directory is not writable. Could be owned by root, for
example.

- You have applesystemfonts installed, but something went wrong during
its installation.

- Some of your fonts are rotten. There are fonts that work in some
applications but break others. Since the applesystemfonts package
tries to pick up not only the system fonts but also the fonts that you
installed in ~/Library/Fonts, this can happen.

Check both directories mentioned above and see whether they are
populated. Both should list almost 200 entries.

It varies. None of them will cause permanent damage to your system--the
main risk is that a package won't build. On the other hand, some of the
packages there are fine, but can't be moved to stable untill all of their
dependencies are.

Frankly, I've never seen any risk using the unstable tree. I've used it
for 3 years and will continue.

Are the packages in fact unstable?
Not at all. There are only there because they are newer and
subsequently there are not a bunch of users who have reported they work
fine.

Nobody seems to report any problems with the unstable tree, and the
criterion for moving clamAV to the stable tree recently was the fact
that a few us inquired about it.
The problem is users like reporting problems, not reporting good
behaviour. As the move to stable depends on good reports...

So, is it better to use the unstable tree?
In my opinion, yes it is. You'll have the best of the applications.
And, yes, updating (rsync) the unstable tree did reveal that the

The 10.2-gcc3.3/unstable tree has abiword-2.0.1. I suppose the port to
10.3 is delayed because of problems similar to what you are seeing (you
are on 10.3, aren't you?). In your case it is a freetype

Hi,

Try to install dlcompat-shlibs. It seems to be a missing dependency in
AbiWord.

Concerning the 'unable to open display localhost:0.0' make sure that
you start X11 before running AbiWord.

2003-10-31 Thread Skip Montanaro

I sent a note out about this a few days ago but saw no response. I
still can't install abiword via fink. When I try, this is what I
 get:

 % fink install abiword
...
 /sw/fink/dists/unstable/main/finkinfo/editors/abiword-1.0.3-12.patch:
 No such file or directory
 ### execution of patch failed, exit code 1
 Failed: patching abiword-1.0.3-12 failed
...

Jamie What version of Fink are you using? OS version?

Sorry for that omission. I'm using fink 0.6.0.cvs, with the 0.16.0 package
manager on Mac OS X 10.2.8.

Jamie Try running selfupdate and then update-all before installing
Jamie abiword

Been there, done that (several times). I even tried removing
/sw/fink/dists/unstable/main/finkinfo/editors/abiword-*, then doing another
selfupdate and update-all. Note:

% fink list abiword
Information about 2992 packages read in 2 seconds.
 abiword 1.0.3-12 Open-source word processor
% ls /sw/fink/dists/unstable/main/finkinfo/editors/abiword-*
/sw/fink/dists/unstable/main/finkinfo/editors/abiword-1.0.3-2.info
/sw/fink/dists/unstable/main/finkinfo/editors/abiword-1.0.3-2.patch

Disagreement between the list command and the file versions. Looking at the
info file I see:

Package: abiword
Version: 1.0.3
Revision: 12

This suggests a bug in the info file. Shouldn't the Revision be 2? (CC'ing
Jeffrey Whitaker, since he's the listed maintainer.)

Okay, so on my Mac at the office, I am running Fink 0.5.2 under OS 10.2.8
- I cracked open Fink Commander to see what the binary vs. source versions
of abiword were and both were abiword-1.0.3-2 . Under 10.3, Fink 0.6 Fink
Commander shows the source version being abiword-1.0.3-12 and the binary
being abiword-1.0.3.2

I am wondering if Fink 0.6 is getting confused because it is refering to
the 10.3 tree?

I don't know if any of this helps at all.

Now, update-all is bailing out, complaining that the patch for abiword-1.0.3.12 isn't
there. Any clues, anyone?

I just had a similar thing happen doing a selfupdate-cvs. Nothing
was apparently happening in the terminal, but top -u showed the cvs
processing using all of one CPU, and the memory requirements growing
by the second. I did a control-C to stop the carnage, and tried
again and it worked perfectly.

I'm running 10.2.6.

I really hate to be a me,too poster, but I had a similar thing happen
on my iBook 900Mhz. cvs seemed to be grabbing about 128KB a second and
the CPU utilization was fluctuating between 89 and 99 percent. I killed
the process and retried 'sudo fink selfupdate-cvs' -- after about 10
seconds cvs exited with an odd malloc error (I didn't think to grab the
output, sorry). I tried 'sudo fink selfupdate-cvs' one final time and
everything worked fine.

I cannot reproduce this behavior, but I wanted to report another
instance in the wild.

 and it worked perfectly.

 I'm running 10.2.6.

 Package manager version: 0.13.7
 Distribution version: 0.5.3.cvs

This is due to cvs being crappy. I just had the same thing happen when
trying to connect to a totally different CVS server, not using fink. It
seems that cvs/pserver has trouble when network/remote server are
running slow, and eats up as much cpu as it can while polling. It's
nothing fink specific.

Yes, you missed 2 updates, but due to the problems they raise
especially with fink, I'm not sure it's a good idea to update right now.

10.2.7 was just for the G5s and new PowerBooks; 10.2.8 was released
last week for everything but the G5s, but was pulled the same day
because it did nasty things to people with older G4s and 10Mbps
Ethernet, among other problems.

More info at macfixit.com if you're interested...

No, it was not replaced in 10.2.8.

 lsbom /Library/Receipts/MacOSXUpdate10.2.8.pkg/Contents/Archive.bom |
 grep cvs

The reason /usr/bin/cvs shows modified at the same time as the update
is because it was re-prebound due to the updated libSystem. (nearly
 everything there was)

I stand corrected. I guess I didn't expect prebinding to
extend that far down into the basic unix, so I assumed
they'd recompiled against new libraries.

I've done that and now whenever once I launch XDarwin (or Apple's X11)

Oh, well, that's my fault. I'm always rush onto the new releases. Only
to know after a few days that I should have not. I'm trying to purge
all fink packages and reinstall from new. Hope this works. Thanks for

Uh-oh. I didn't know they withdrew 10.2.8. I have it
installed, (I rushed in to fix the sshd hole) and on my G3
XDarwin is quitting unexpectedly from time to time, but
everything else seems to work OK, and I haven't had trouble
(so far) with my iBook or TiBook.

There have been a few other funnies, like xclock gave me a
malloc/free error just once, but I was noticing a random
stuff like that from before installing 10.2.8 anyway.

Hmmm...I don't fancy having to back out of this one, I had
to do a system archive-reinstall a couple of months back and
lost /etc/fonts, which took me ages to figure out...

Anyone got any advice either way on this? Thanks...

No problems on my G4 PowerBook, and my dual G4 tower seems OK, too--I
actually lost DHCP service, but found where somebody posted the
ethernet driver. Mail.app and Entourage crash occasionally, but both
always have on that machine. I have no Fink-related or X-related
problems to report.

No, I didn't execute xfontpath enable anywhere, as I didn't know I
needed to. I had tried to get info about xfontpath with man
xfontpath and fink info xfontpath and they didn't produce
anything, so I assumed it was enough to just install the package.

I tried adding xfontpath enable to .xinitrc on the iBook and the
main Mac, but that did nothing.

Now that I look in /sw/share/docs/xfontpath, I see the README file.
But I'm not sure which font paths I need to add to get
applesystemfonts working. Can anyone provide a clue?

And I still need to get AbiWord working when I ssh in from my iBook.
Will xfontpaths help here, or do I have another problem I need to
solve?

Thanks,

Kevin Horton

I think this would only be helpful if you actually supplied a path to a

X11 supports this.

I think this is taken care of when you install applesystemfonts, but I
may be wrong. I don't have an unstable installation to check it out.

You might try copying the AbiWord fonts from the main Mac to the iBook,
using the same path. It sounds like AbiWord is adding fonts to the
path, but you don't have those fonts or paths on the iBook.

I've had applesystemfonts installed for quite awhile now, but it
doesn't seem to be doing anything I can detect.

I just rebuilt it, and restarted X11 - no apple system fonts in any X
apps. I restarted the computer, and still didn't get any apple
system fonts.

What else can I try? Are there some apps that don't work with
applesystemfonts? I've tried abiword, gnumeric, pan, mozilla,
bluefish, gtkgraph and xephem.

I'm running Apple's X11 beta 3.

But I'm not sure which font paths I need to add to get
applesystemfonts working. Can anyone provide a clue?

I think this is taken care of when you install applesystemfonts, but I
may be wrong. I don't have an unstable installation to check it out.

And I still need to get AbiWord working when I ssh in from my iBook.
Will xfontpaths help here, or do I have another problem I need to
solve?

You might try copying the AbiWord fonts from the main Mac to the iBook,
using the same path. It sounds like AbiWord is adding fonts to the
path, but you don't have those fonts or paths on the iBook.

Bingo! I copied /sw/share/AbiSuite/fonts/ from my main Mac to the
iBook, and now Abiword works. Thanks.

The apple system fonts are still not available, but I can live
without them for now.

Thanks for your help,

I did have the following in my .xinitrc:

xfontpath install /sw/lib/X11/fonts/applettf/
xfontpath enable
I tried replacing it with your suggestion, but I can't see any
difference. Which Apple fonts should I see in X11?

[Fink-users] Abiword, X11 and font problem

2003-08-14 Thread Kevin Horton
I've got Apple's X11 Beta 3 installed on two Macs, my main Mac, and
an iBook. The iBook is short of hard drive space, so all the X11
apps are on the main Mac, and if I am using the iBook, I ssh in to
the main Mac to run them. Everything works fine on the main Mac, and
all apps work from the iBook, except Abiword.

If I ssh into the main Mac from the iBook, and try to run Abiword by
running abiword , it complains about font problems when it starts
up. Abiword was not able to add its fonts to the X11 font path.
This does not mean that there is anything wrong with your system, but
that you will need to edit your font path manually. Please see UNIX
Font Path Problem in the FAQ section of the Abiword Help file for
more detailed information ...

AbiWord appears to start up, then there are two dialog boxes AbiWord
could not load the following font or fontset from the X Window System
dispaly server: [-*-Times New Roman-regular-r-*-*-*-0-*-*-*-*-*-*]

This error could be the result of an incomplete AbiSuite
installation, an in compatibility with your X Window System display
server, or a problem communicating with a remote font server.

Often this error is the result of invoking AbiWord directly instead
of through its wrapper shell script. The script dynamically adds the
AbiSuite font directory to your X Window System display server front
path before running the executable.

IMPORTANT: If you're a XFree86 4.x user, try adding: Load type1 to
the Module section of the XF86Config-4 file
(usually located at /etc/X11)

Please visit http://www.abisource.com for more information.

Abiword shuts down after the second dialog box is closed.

I can't find the XF86Config-4 file - I suspect the Apple X11 file
structure is different somehow. Looking at /sw/bin/AbiWord, I can
see that the shell script tries to set up a bunch of font stuff.
Does this work if I ssh in from X11 on another Mac?

Can anyone recommend how to get AbiWord working if I ssh in from another Mac?

Note, applesystemfonts isn't doing its thing either (i.e. the apple
fonts aren't showing up in abiword on the main Mac), if that is any
clue.

On the main Mac (running fink unstable tree):

fink --version
Package manager version: 0.13.5
Distribution version: 0.5.3.cvs
sw_vers
ProductName:Mac OS X
ProductVersion: 10.2.6
BuildVersion: 6L60
i abiword 1.0.3-2
i system-xfree864.2-12
i applesystemfonts 1.0-4
i ttfmkfontdir 1.0-2
i xfontpath 0.4-2
On the iBook (running the fink binary tree):

fink --version
Package manager version: 0.13.2
Distribution version: 0.5.1
sw_vers
ProductName:Mac OS X
ProductVersion: 10.2.6
BuildVersion: 6L60
i system-xfree86 4.2-11
i applesystemfont 1.0-4
i ttfmkfontdir 1.0-1
i xfontpath0.4-2
Thanks,

[Fink-users] AbiWord: GNUmakefile: *** missing separator.

Hi all

I can't compile AbiWord on a 10.2 system:

config.status: creating src/tools/cdump/GNUmakefile

### execution of (cd failed, exit code 2
Failed: compiling abiword-1.0.2-1 failed

Has anybody else already had that error? Do I have to wait for a
version working on 10.2? Do I have to switch the compiler?

Thanks for any help!

RE: [Fink-users] abiword - anyone got it to compile

2002-09-17 Thread andy law (RI)

Michael,

I have been able to successful compile abiword both under
 10.1.5 and now under
 10.2, latest version of Fink,

 pkg fink version ###
 pkg fink version 0.10.0.cvs-20020914.1536

 fink-0.10.0.cvs-20020914.1536: The Fink package manager

I just ran 'fink selfupdate-cvs', 'fink update-all' (which says there is nothing to
update i.e . everything is up to date) then 'fink describe fink' and I get...

pkg fink version ###
pkg fink version 0.10.0-1

Why am I getting numbers different from yours?

 pkg abiword version ###
 pkg abiword version 1.0.2-2

 abiword-1.0.2-2: Open-source word processor.
Builds the unix/gtk+ version - native MacOS X version under
 development.

similarly for abiword, I get version 1.0.2-1

Why am I getting a (seemingly) older version?

 It worked fine for me.

Perhaps if I can get the 1.0.2-2 version, it might work for me! Any ideas about what
the differences are that mean I'm not getting that version?

TIA,

Later,

Andy

OK. Problem solved. I was experimenting and found that abiword
worked fine if I simply typed abiword in an xterm window. But it
crashed if I tried to launch it using the icon I had created in
WindowMaker. I checked the settings for the icon, and found that it
was set to call /sw/bin/abiword_d. I removed the _d, and
everything was fine.

Lesson learned - don't create icons in Windowmaker by simply dragging
the icon for a running application to the icon well. You might have
to fine tune the settings to get things to work.

Abiword 1.0.1-2 appears to work fine now that I've sorted out how to
start it :)

Thanks,

Kevin

Abiword-1.0.0-2 seems to compile OK, but it won't run. I get:

Something else that might be related - when I do a startx --quartz to
start X11, I get:

Xlib: extension MIT-SHM missing on display :0.0.
Xlib: extension MIT-SHM missing on display :0.0.

I don't recall whether these lines have always displayed, or whether
they are a recent arrival.

I restarted the computer, but that didn't help.

Do I need to rebuild some part of XFree86? Rebuild abiword?

Thanks,

Kevin

Failed: compiling abiword-1.0.0-1 failed

There were pages and pages of similar lines before those. Do they
tell a story, or do I need to look further up the log?

I'm using all unstable packages, updated from CVS. Everything else
is up-to-date, except for the Gimp.

fink --version
Package manager version: 0.9.11
Distribution version: 0.4.0.cvs

OS X 10.1.4, with the December Developer Tools.

Thanks,

Kevin Horton
