Hi Jim,

That was no fake setup at Dayton this year!!  I was there and it was as real as
the setup I have at home right now with my 6500.  The 6500 is the best receiver
I have ever used, all things considered, even better than the 5000A I just sold
(hard thing for me to say considering I loved my 5000A).  I have been working
DX, rag chewing with my local buddies on AM and getting fantastic audio
reports, many unsolicited

So, what questions do you have Jim?  I will try and answer as best I can...

Subject: [FlexEdge] Flex 6500 being returned

Hi,

I am going to return my new Flex 6500 which has been out of the box for
only two days.
It just falls short of my MARS needs in so many ways, that I can't use it.
Perhaps in coming months things will change as newer versions of
SmartSDR and radio firmware are released, but perhaps not.
But waiting months also means I can't return it to Flex Radio for a refund.

I have no interest in listing my disappointments in SmartSDR and the radio.

The main purpose of posting, is I had the thought there might be some
people who are on a waiting list for months and months to get a Flex
6500 and are eager to get one, and perhaps Flex Radio would be happier
if I just sold it to someone else instead of returning it for a refund.

There's nothing technically wrong with the radio, it's just that the
software does not currently yield the functionality that I need today.
The only change I have made is to put Anderson power pole connectors on
the power cord so I can plug it into my Rig Runner.

Regards
Howard

I'm wondering exactly the same thing. I'm unclear, as it seems that the 6X00

Subject: [FlexEdge] Flex 6500 and JT65

Hello all, this is my first post. I am seriously considering ordering a
6500. Never having owned a Flex I have some basic questions as to rig
control.

My question is how will the 6500 work with digital modes like JT65. I'm
assuming that a program like JT65-HF will still be required, but will it
all go through the single ethernet connection between computer and rig,
or will an additional USB cable be required? How about HRD/DM780? What
will the setup look like as far as sound card selection in JT65-HF etc.
Forgive me if there are obvious answers to these questions, I just
haven't seen them discussed. Any info will be appreciated.

Thanks in advance,

Rob AB1NJ

Re: [FlexEdge] Flex 6500 Power Connector

2013-03-08 Thread Dale Brown
The back of the 6500 looks like the power pole connectors just push in.
There does not seem to be a positive snap-in connection. I have several
power poles and if a strain is put on them, they fall out. The black
plastic clips definitely hold two ends together, but on the back of the
radio, there does not seem to be a way to hold the clips. The clips also
extremely hard to remove and break about half the time when I move a radio
from one vehicle to another. Is there something I am missing with this
power pole execution? Dale KC2PZ

Also take a look at the ARES/RACES standard for orienting the PowerPoles:

AKA Red on the right, tongues up, away from you

and use that.

Flex 6500 Power connector question?

I already have an Astron power supply with continuous 25 amp capability
but i haven't used Powerpole connectors before. What do I need for
mating the a Flex 6500?

#14AWG stranded wire, 30A powerpole connectors, and a powerpole crimp tool.
Get the crimp tool, a bag of connectors, something like a West Mountain
Radio RigRunner, and then go nuts with all the devices in your shack that
run from 12VDC. That is what I have done and it is SO nice to be able to
plug in 12VDC devices the way I plug 120VAC devices into mains power. It
just makes life in the shack SOOO much easier.

Dave

I would think it would come with an appropriate power cable. But if you
need to I will be glad to make 1 for you if you send me some wire.
