Re: [FlexEdge] flex 6500
Hi Jim, That was no fake setup at Dayton this year!! I was there and it was as real as the setup I have at home right now with my 6500. The 6500 is the best receiver I have ever used, all things considered, even better than the 5000A I just sold (hard thing for me to say considering I loved my 5000A). I have been working DX, rag chewing with my local buddies on AM and getting fantastic audio reports, many unsolicited So, what questions do you have Jim? I will try and answer as best I can... It just falls short of my MARS needs in so many ways, that I can't use it. Perhaps in coming months things will change as newer versions of SmartSDR and radio firmware are released, but perhaps not. But waiting months also means I can't return it to Flex Radio for a refund. I have no interest in listing my disappointments in SmartSDR and the radio. The main purpose of posting, is I had the thought there might be some people who are on a waiting list for months and months to get a Flex 6500 and are eager to get one, and perhaps Flex Radio would be happier if I just sold it to someone else instead of returning it for a refund. There's nothing technically wrong with the radio, it's just that the software does not currently yield the functionality that I need today. The only change I have made is to put Anderson power pole connectors on the power cord so I can plug it into my Rig Runner. I am seriously considering ordering a 6500. Never having owned a Flex I have some basic questions as to rig control. My question is how will the 6500 work with digital modes like JT65. I'm assuming that a program like JT65-HF will still be required, but will it all go through the single ethernet connection between computer and rig, or will an additional USB cable be required? How about HRD/DM780? What will the setup look like as far as sound card selection in JT65-HF etc. Forgive me if there are obvious answers to these questions, I just haven't seen them discussed. Re: [FlexEdge] Flex 6500 Power Connector
The back of the 6500 looks like the power pole connectors just push in. There does not seem to be a positive snap-in connection. I have several power poles and if a strain is put on them, they fall out. The black plastic clips definitely hold two ends together, but on the back of the radio, there does not seem to be a way to hold the clips. The clips also extremely hard to remove and break about half the time when I move a radio from one vehicle to another. Is there something I am missing with this power pole execution?
