It was all hand-made and verified multiple times. The patch was correct. Only: it had no context lines (my fault), and Erik installed it over files with uncommitted changes, and committed it in one go. Now everything is broken and I'm waiting for instructions how to help fix it. Ideally, all would get backed out and uncommitted code committed first, then a new patch (with context) applied again. Only: it had no context lines (my fault), and Erik installed it over files with uncommitted changes, and committed it in one go. But, no. This doesn't explain it. The context lines are only there to allow cvs to resolve minor conflicts *automatically*. But there should still conflicts have been reported while committing. After all, the '-' line has to match at exactly the right line number, to be replaced by the '+' line. So I change my mind: it can't have been my fault. Re: [Flightgear-devel] pa24-250 update and some questions
On 18/02/06, Dave Perry [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: 2. At manifold pressures below 20 in hg, the AC has much too much power compared to the real AC. I normally use 16 in of manifold pressure in procedure turns and then with the gear down and 15 deg. of flaps, the descent and airspeed fall in place at the outer marker. I can't even carry 10 in MP in the model in an approach. Part of the problem, I think, is that you've specified an unrealistically high performance in the approach section of the YASim config file. A 16 degree angle of attack is basically at the stall, so the airspeed shouldn't be 71 knots. Start with something like 14 degrees and 55 knots, then play around until both landing performance and in-air stalls are realistic. Remember that the aircraft model is specified a fair bit below maximum gross weight, so the stall speed should be slower than the published one. 3. A likely related issues is that with the prop all the way forward, the RPM stays high at 85 mph and no throttle as I flare out. In the real AC, the engine cannot keep the prop at high RPM in this situation. This makes taxiing require a lot of braking or you can pull the prop back, again not real. Any suggestions form others using yasim with a constant speed prop. Fixing the approach section might help that. I think I've done my time over the last few years but this accident this morning alone has cost me more than half a day. Sorry to hear that. I'm aware that you had to carry the main load of committing patch contributions. On the other hand, I do now feel the need to defend myself, because it may appear as if it was my fault. It was not. 1. I didn't want to make this FSF address patch at all, but was encouraged. (When I explained why I wouldn't do it, I only got a Bah., as in: weak excuse!. So I made and submitted it anyway.) 2. The patch was well tested against a clean SG/CVS/HEAD. It is correct as you can see here in the originally submitted file: http://members.aon.at/mfranz/simgear.diff.gz [7.8 kB] I tried it again right now and it applied cleanly *and* correctly, as did reverting it. ($ zcat simgear.diff.gz|patch -R -p0) 3. I don't see how reverting two patches takes more than a half day. Actually, I'd be surprised if it took more than half an hour. I'd give it no more than 10 minutes. Unless, of course, cvs or patch has a bug that doesn't allow it. I can't, however, imagine that Erik made a mistake. It looks very much like a cvs or patch bug. Nothing in the patch justifies the outcome. Not even if it had been applied wrongly (which it hardly was -- Erik isn't a cvs beginner). m. --- This SF.net email is sponsored by: Splunk Inc. I wanted to pass the attached message along to our European FlightGear developers. This looks like it will be a really neat event. I imagine it will be worth attending just to see the museum exhibits. It appears there is a cost to host a booth, but if we have any developers that can commit to attending this show and hosting a booth, I would be happy to see if I could help work something out. Worst case scenario, maybe we could get a few people to pitch in to cover the costs of a booth. If anyone is interested in helping out, please let me know. Thats the same freq im using and i can take off fly miles away and hear nothing. I enable ATC and select 3 from density Using latest cvs . Strange as i hear KSFO on their freq ... Re: [Flightgear-devel] Resigning as patch committer.
Some of my works have been handled by Erik, so I would first like to say thank you. Now a small question: if Erik hasn't nominated his successor to Curt yet, when do we get to nominate people? :) Ampere --- This SF.net email is sponsored by: Splunk Inc. Re: [Flightgear-devel] pa24-250 update and some questions
David Megginson wrote: 2. Remember that the aircraft model is specified a fair bit below maximum gross weight, so the stall speed should be slower than the published one Hi David, I took your advice this evening and tried the 55 knots with 14 degrees. Yasim did not want to converge at first (insufficient elevator trim) but after I increased the hstab effectiveness to 2 (was 1.5) it converged. I also took the hstab incidence to 0 (was 0.6 I believe). The stall speeds are still correct and the landings are much smoother, more like the real ac. I also refined the MP gage interpolation as it was off at the low end such that it made the problem seem worse. 10 on the MP gage is now 10 in hg in the property list and 15 is now 15, etc. I have made two OT changes. First, I shot some touch-n-goes in the real N7764P and observed my field of view and panel view. This made me decide to move the view point back and slightly to the right. Now the ADF gage and the DME display are in the natural scan w/o moving the hat. Still have to look to the right to note the tach and MP as in the real ac. Second, I added the c172p ADF radio to the radio stack above the nav/com 1, adding a bus voltage condition to the text layer in the adf-radio.xml file. After several instrument approaches with the model in fgfs, I can now use 10 in MP in my approach setup where I would use 15 or 16 in MP in the real ac. This still allows me to practice with a set procedure for the power which is much better than it was. If after a few more evenings of approaches, I am satisfied with the setup, I will have you submit these patches. I still think yasim could use more prop drag at low MP. It still allows the RPM to creep towards 1800 sitting on the ramp with the throttle closed and the prop forward. The real ac would be at about 700 RPM for this case. Thanks for the suggestions, Dave P. --- This SF.net email is sponsored by: Splunk Inc. Do you grep through log files for problems? Stop!
