[Flightgear-devel] FG OSG 2.4 crashes

2008-05-10 Thread Georg Vollnhals
Hi,

anyone out there with an idea why my new built FG OSG (2.4) CVS crashes?
Due to changing my OS from OpenSUSE 10.2 to OpenSUSE 10.3 I built all
components from CVS/SVN - they compiled without any problem!

PLIB SVN
OSG SVN
OpenAL SVN
SimGear (OSG)CVS
FlightGear (OSG) CVS

I tried a lot of hours (just trial and error :-/ ) to make some changes
on the install pathes and library pathes of the components - but either
it does not compile or if it compiles I get the error messages.
Any idea where I have to change anything - or at least which component
is the bad?
Thank you very much in advance for your help.

Right-o. In review, the problem is OS X's OpenGL undefines APIENTRY
for some reason. There's a patch for plib to work around this, which I
have requested be included in the macports version of plib:
http://trac.macports.org/projects/macports/ticket/13665 They seem
reluctant to actually apply it though, so if you expressed your
support that might help.

The DISPLAY problem is caused by new code in FG that checks the display
variable and bug in OSG, fixed in OSG SVN.

The slow scenery loading is caused by switching to the OSG DatabasePager,
plus some problems in OSG that are fixed in OSG 2.3.

Since i have rebuilt my computers room i have lost the old mails, which

For some reasons i only work with stable OSG versions so i will wait for the

[Flightgear-devel] FG,OSG,MacOS X compile problem

2008-01-08 Thread Ulrich Hertlein
Hello list,

this is sort-of a n00b question so please be patient; I've been using OSG for
years but only just started with FG...

I'm using OSG SVN trunk on MacOS X and it works fine for my other projects, so
I'm pretty sure this is not an issue with the OSG installation.

However when attempting to compile FlightGear (from CVS) it gives me a weird
error compiling 'ATC/atis.cxx' (it's not this file that's causing the trouble,
it's just the first that includes OSG headers):

/usr/local/include/osg/BufferObject:191: error: expected ')' before '*' token
/usr/local/include/osg/BufferObject:192: error: expected ')' before '*' token
/usr/local/include/osg/BufferObject:193: error: expected ')' before '*' token
/usr/local/include/osg/BufferObject:194: error: expected ')' before '*' token
...(goes on for a bit)
/usr/local/include/osg/BufferObject:203: error: 'GenBuffersProc' does not name a
type
/usr/local/include/osg/BufferObject:204: error: 'BindBufferProc' does not name a
type
...(similar GL-related complaints)

After some digging it appears that for some reason 'APIENTRY' is not #defined
properly and is causing the compiler to cough up these errors. (I assume the
rest is just follow-up errors.)

Is anyone running a similar config (MacOS X, OSG trunk, DarwinPorts) or can
maybe shed some light on the issue?

Thanks in advance,
/uli

You are probably trying to build plib branch of flightgear with osg
branch of simgear.
Those two have to match, ie. both plib or both osg.

Ah, ok. Looks like Durk has slipped a dependency on plib-sg into osg-fg.
Try changing the src/Navaids/navrecord.hxx:35 line to #include
simgear/structure/SGSharedPtr.hxx or roll back that change from cvs.

Yikes! That's what you get when installing the two versions on top of each
other I guess...

Should be fixed in CVS now.

Cheers,
Durk

 Cheers,

Its fixed for me. Thank you gentlemen.

Durk, as a side note, I commend your efforts to track down the legendary
stick-slip or stutter problem. A number of us have been suffering

2007-10-20 Thread Georg Vollnhals

Its fixed for me. Thank you gentlemen.

Durk, as a side note, I commend your efforts to track down the legendary
stick-slip or stutter problem. A number of us have been suffering
with this issue for some time now.

I like to add my thanks to Durk here. The problem got worser and worser
(on FG OSG) during the last months, after flying 20 minutes over more
densly populated areas (= some objects placed) my framerates got down to
8 from 85 - what made me everytime killing flightgear as one can't
control a helicopter with such stuttering.
I just compiled a new OSG version with some of the fixes included, as I
understand it. Now I am very curious ...
Anyway, I can imagine how much work such a debug/search/repair work is,
once again thank you to Durk and all other developers engaged with this.

One of Mathias's tile loader changes related to internal coordinate systems
put the autogenerated ocean tiles in the wrong place so they appeared to be
missing. Mathias fixed that, but now the texture coordinate computations
seem to be wrong. The ocean texture is drawn to a different scale with the
autogenerated ocean tiles. Haven't had a chance to bug Mathias about this
yet.

I don't see any definition difference , with ocean coastline and ocean
generic tile

here the material definition
material
 nameOcean/name
 textureTerrain/water.rgb/texture
 xsize400/xsize
 ysize400/ysize
 object-group
  range-m4/range-m

Only a mapping difference within FG-OSG about that tile processing may
explain it.

Hello,

With FlightgearG-OSG last cvs source and data , built with openscenegraph
stable V2
the texture of the sea is not homogeneous , the texture close to the coastline
is like usual, but the generic sea tile is different , with less definition
(the size of the tile seems to be larger)

Here the snapshot which shows the difference

Maybe this helps to reproduce the problem.

[Flightgear-devel] FG-osg instruments(?) issue

2006-11-16 Thread Pigeon

Hi,

I noticed 3D cockpit instruments (I tried C172p's and 747's) seems
to be scaled depending on the size of the window.

This is most obvious if I change the FOV to the maximum (120) using
the 'X' key. If I resize FG's window so that its width is much larger
than its height (say, 1024x100), instruments all become a fat oval
shape. Then if I resize the window the other way (say 100x910),
instruments become narrower.

Screenshots:

http://pigeond.net/~pigeon/fg-osg-fat-window.png

http://pigeond.net/~pigeon/fg-osg-thin-window.png

I've added this to the OSG wiki bug list as well.

Thanks.

Pigeon.

[SNIP]

Maybe someone has a script to correctly build FG-OSG for linux from cvs that

Yes, I have:

ftp://ftp.uni-duisburg.de/FlightGear/Misc_rag/fgfs-builder/

If you want to do it without fgfs-builder, use the following
instructions. I assume that you already have development libraries for
openal installed.

1. Get OpenThreads (http://openthreads.sourceforge.net/), compile and
install it

2. (optional) Get OpenProducer
(http://www.andesengineering.com/Producer/index.html), compile and
install it.

3. Either get the OpenSceneGraph-sources Mathias provided or get
OpenSceneGraph (http://www.openscenegraph.org/) from CVS (revision
OpenSceneGraph_1_2_release_revision_1 should do it) and apply Mathias'
patches. Compile and install. If you did not follow step 2
(OpenProducer), you need to use

   make PRODUCER_INSTALLED=no all

In step 1-3, you can pass INST_LOCATION=path to the make command to
specify an alternative installation location path. In that case you
need to pass the OpenThreads directories in OPENTHREADS_INC_DIR and
OPENTHREADS_LIB_DIR in steps 2 and 3 and the OpenProducer directories in
PRODUCER_INC_DIR and PRODUCER_LIB_DIR in step 3.

4. Get plib (http://plib.sf.net), compile and install.

5. Get SimGear (http://www.simgear.org), compile and install. On
configuration, use the --with-osg-option to specify where you
installed OpenSceneGraph.

6. Get FlightGear (http://www.flightgear.org), compile and install. On
configuration, again, use the --with-osg-option to specify where you
installed OpenSceneGraph.

Now you should have a FlightGear-binary. Of course, you still need the
data package.

Hope this helps.

Cheers,
Ralf

Maybe someone has a script to correctly build FG-OSG for linux from cvs that
works ?

Did you build Producer and OpenThreads before OSG?
