a piece against the media megacorporations and their fast $$ sotosay,
MPEG is so simple compared to Quicktime and Realmedia..and its clickable
streaming now. It works with modem and even, an accident, with the MS

Some new work on the fluxus site -

(in addition to Dave's earlier debut)

http://www.fluxus.org/FLUXLIST/timepiece/

We have tick tocks and music on Internet Explorer, but none of
same on Netscape. Also the volume may need to be turned up a bit
to hear the music.

Thanks Doc Allen, for your as usual gracious assistance.

Best,

Re: FLUXLIST: art version of the Tao te Ching #54

2000-10-24 Thread Narcissus In Paradys

While I love this piece, I must comment only on one point.
My boss owns a newspaper and printing company which I am gainfully employed by. He
asked me to host the grand opening of his Art Gallery the other day which featured
"local" (New England) artists. He purchased a great deal of alchohol for the opening,
and interestingly enough, this did serve to increase the amount of art purchased!
Being drunk may lead someone to purchase anything... The prices were actually kind of
high.
I do most certaintly agree with the last part of "3" ("This is criminal"). My boss is
keeping such a large portion of each purchase that the artists do not make anything in
the long run. Considering the cost involved in painting and framing their work, I
would say they lost out.
Point 1 and 2 of your new Tao Te Chang need not even be mentioned- they are obviously
true. The only thing I wanted to explain, really, was why there is so much alchohol!
(The only benefit in this whole system!)

FLUXLIST: arthur køpcke

2000-10-24 Thread caleb . k

(a query)

i am interested in a work(s) by arthur køpcke
'Music while you work' which i believe has a number of versions.

the two i have seen the scores for go something like

Piece No. 1: "...the record / music starts and the exponent has to work
(i.e. clean the stage). when the gramophone-needle hits the scotchtape, the
music stumples and the actor has to begin the record again every time. the
piece is over a) when the work is finished b) if the record ends..."

and

1962

"Provide record of any music put a glue spot on the 5th to 10th
groove so the stylus will not play past this point. Performer
performs useful work like sweeping the floor while the record is
playing, as soon as the stylus is caught in same groove repeating
over and over, performer rushes to record player set stylus to first
groove, goes back to work until stylus gets caught again - ad
intinitum."

the question is, are there other versions of the work and are there
reviews etc of any of them.

i ask as in the catalogue to the exhibition "The record as Art Work"
it is stated that the '...surface of the record is crossed by plastic
drips which produce continual interruptions aimed at annoying the
listener.'

I would like to see the score to this version(and the others) of the
work and ask if this is a fair interpretation of the intention of the
work, as it seems a bit flat if the whole point was to annoy?

any leads, references etc are greatly appreciated.

FLUXLIST: Hmmm

2000-10-24 Thread Narcissus In Paradys

I have already expressed ignorance of Fluxism, so forgive me if the following "thing"
is not flux...

While videotapping a town Board Of Selectmen meeting, I very noisily retrieved a bag
of cough drops, despite the utter lack of a cough on my part, taking care to make as
much noise as humanly possible. Then, I walked through the aisles, in front of
everyone in the middle of the meeting, in front of the camera, and proffered one cough
drop, unwrapped, to the nameless representative of an architectural firm which had a
quote for the town. The man took the cough drop and ate it. Then I returned to the
camera.

To me, that is an "experience", and to do such things, without any self-conciousness
or deliberation, but to do them just because you do them, is what is art...

Is this the point of flux? To live your life just in your way, to be you purely
because you are? Not to cause a reaction, but just to do things to do them?

That is what I feel flux is to me?

~David Streever
Hell, might as well add an "E"...
