Thanks You probably have a problem with the permission of the files /usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/misc/fonts.alias /usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/misc/fonts.dir (one RPM upgrade made them readable only by root). Just do (as root) chmod a+r /usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/misc/fonts.* and restart xfs (service xfs restart). It should work after that.
