FWIW, I also support these two nominations.

It's indeed a pity that we can't nominate Carlos but last I checked
with him, he's happy getting rewarded with votes (in the board
elections) and beers too. :)

Hear hear. I'd like to support this nomination as well.

Sri has also organized LAS GNOME, coordinated the action against
Groupon's use of the GNOME name, and numerous other things.

+1, and just to be effusive about why... Sri has continually contributed
to GNOME's PR, bringing life to the engagement team and looking out for
newcomers generally. He's always enthusiastic and the fact that he's
maintained this for so many years in the project is incredible. He's
willing to do the work that other people aren't - he's spend countless
time at GNOME booths, writing GNOME materials, and running interference
for the project.

On a very personal note, Sri took the time to be present on so many hate
threads about GNOME, OPW about me, bringing irrefutable truth (with
back-up links) when the internet was full of lies, exaggerations and
threats. Without him and other GNOME volunteers who jumped into the fray
on multiple occasions, I surely would have left free software.

While I can’t find this stated explicitely anywhere, I believe we
won’t award the pants to someone who already got them in the past.
Even if that is not a rule, there is no lack of deserving candidates
(as shown by this thread) and we probably want to find a different
recipient every time. Let me seize this opportunity to remind the
membership about https://wiki.gnome.org/Pants and reiterate the call
for help to make it more complete and accurate.

Cheers,

I nominate Rob McQueen for setting up, arranging donations for, and
administrating Flathub.
I also nominate Federico Mena Quintero for pioneering the use of the Rust
language in the GNOME stack.
I also second Sri Ramkrishna's nomination for continuing to engage in a
constructive manner with the /r/linux community despite the obvious
difficulties.

2018-06-01 Thread Carlos Soriano
Thanks Nirbheek :)

I think the rule is because the board choose them, so me being on the board
would stop that.

In any case, I got enough credit for the GitLab effort (thanks all), it's
my hope that the pants goes to someone else that has done as much or more
for GNOME but goes more unnoticed.

Cheers

Fwd: It's time again for pants nominations

2018-05-30 Thread Felipe Borges
I nominate Carlos Garnacho.

Carlos has been actively part of our community for more than (I
believe) 15 years. He has been involved in various projects that
interact with very different components of our stack: Gtk+, Tracker,
Mutter, Wayland, you name it! He has also collaborated with apps that
consume his backend work, such as GNOME Music and the other core apps
(sharing his Tracker expertise). Contributing not only in code, Carlos
has mentored and co-mentored outreach students in GSoC and Outreachy,
and has been always very helpful with newcomers. He has attended many
of our conferences and is one of the most cherished members of our
community.

I really wanted to nominate Carlos Soriano for all the work done with the
migration to GitLab, but he's a board member! Why does this requirement
exist? I don't remember :)

I also want to nominate:

* Christian Hergert for his work on end-user developer tooling, such as

It's time again for pants nominations

2018-05-30 Thread Didier Roche

Hi all,

GUADEC is coming up soon, and with GUADEC comes the annual Pants Award.
Every year, GNOME awards a pair of pants to somebody in recognition of
their outstanding contributions. The board will make the final decision
on who receives the pants, but we'd love to hear your nominations.

The award can be for any kind of contribution to our software or our
community. It does not have to be software development work. The only
requirements are that the person is attending GUADEC to receive the
pants, and that it's not a current or outgoing board member. Not sure
if the person fits the requirements? Just nominate! We'll sort it out.

Please feel free to send your nominations as a reply to this email. Or,
if you'd prefer to nominate someone anonymously, email board-list.

Thanks,
Didier
