Archives are very useful.
While I saved answers to questions I asked, since moving jobs a couple of
times, I don't have easy access.

Searching the archives for my messages has proved very useful.

Before this fades into the mists of history completely off-list, I want to
say thanks to Carol and Rick, and the many other folks in this FrameMaker
community for generously contributing to and sharing FM knowledge and lore.
We're all more productive and enlightened because of each other.

Thank, All!

Not sure if Reddit is the right place. It can be quite out of control with its
tons of random posts on all kinds of topics.

A _far_ better site is groups.io ... I use it for a few email discussion groups

I also want to thank Carol & Rick for their years of service to this group. I
started out 11 years ago in a job that required FrameMaker. I had a long
background with Quark Xpress & InDesign, but had never seen FrameMaker and had
no one there that could train me. Not sure what I would have done without this
list serve that contributed hugely to my ability to learn FrameMaker.

I'm also getting ready to retire, but will never forget Rick & Carol and

Thank you.

Hi y'all!

I am long retired and only use FM for some minor jobs from time to time.
This list — I have no words to express how much it has meant to me and how
professionally so many Framers come to the help of other Framers — for
free. The list has solved so many problems for me and I only hope that I
may have contributed just a bit to help others.

In the late 90ies I learned Linux with a guy (John White) and there I came
into the community of people that looked at helping others with their
learning was as natural as drinking water.

This list is in the same category. The only difference is that we are
dealing with expensive software. In cases like that you often don't get any
help for free.

So my most sincere thanks to Carol and Rick and all the others that have
been the administrators of this list and all the others that have offered
their valuable help. I only hope that someone will release them and
continue maintaining the list. I am also thankful for all the acquaintances
I have made through this list and the courses and conferences I was so
fortunate to be able to attend. Some of them have become my Facebook
friends I hold dear.

Best wishes to everyone,

I'm with Mike; thanks so much for making this list possible! I haven't used
Frame for a few years and I know this would be an invaluable resource should I
ever get back to Frame.
Thank you!Best,Louise

I'd like to add my thanks to Carol and Rick for maintaining the list,
and for their contributions to the list over the years. I'm retired now,
so don't use FrameMaker much anymore, but I still follow the list and
hope it keeps operating. It has been a great resource!

Is the current domain owner the only one who can renew? Can we send in a

Well, the good news is that when I first took over the list, Brad
switched to the same domain host as I use. But short of someone
dying, it is damned difficult to wrestle ownership away from an
owner. That's why we can't let it get that far.

Definitely don’t want to wait for the domain to expire. When that happens it’ll
likely get scooped up by domain squatters who will change a fortune to get it
back.

Might want to contact the current web host and explain the situation. They may
be able to help. Especially if they are also the registrar.

FWIW, try Facebook. Even if there is/are more than one Brad with the same last

Re: [Framers] can someone take the reins?

2021-06-26 Thread Steve Rickaby
I'd like to echo all that's been posted on this thread, and thank Carol and
Rick wholeheartedly for all they've done.

Alas, I'm in the same position as Carol, theoretically retired and no longer
using FrameMaker much. But I remain eternally grateful to this group for
helping me attain the dubious heights of designing and documenting a structured
FrameMaker writing environment from a standpoint of pig ignorance (70+ pp of
docs). And to all of you who contributed articles while I edited the FrameMaker
slot for the UK's ISTC: you know who you are.

I really, really hope that FrameMaker doesn't go the way of Interleaf, which
sort of disappeared between the leaves, fell to the forest floor and became
compost. FrameMaker deserves better.

message for. On Monday, I will contact Finite Matters and see if they
can put me in contact with him.

The folks on this list are just simply great. I've had several people
respond off list and as soon as I make the last-ditch effort to track
Brad down, I'll get a couple of the new volunteers trained up. We are
going to have to figure out a more long-term solution for domain
ownership, though, so finding Brad is a priority for me. I'm hoping
he will be willing to transfer the domain to someone else.
