 $text =~s/\'/\\\'/gm;

I would normally have it $text =~ s/\'/\\'/g; (dunno quite what m does in
yours - the camel book says 'treat as multiple lines' but not sure what that
means! g normally works for me)

Looks like you're storing the literal string \' into the database, whereas
with mine it stays as ' once it has got through the SQL parser.

Am I missing something...?

I'd like to exchange SMS messages with someone. They have an orange mobile
phone, while I do not, and I don't want to sell out and get one of the
bloody things, preferring as I do the relative safety of my workstation and
its non-ionising radiation.

What's the best solution?

cheers,

Hello All,
I remember seeing a posting on this here list about some kind of 'erection'
(no pun intended) in the states, which contained a code that nobody could
break. It was situated in the grounds of a government agency or something. A
URL would be nice for this if anyone knows/remembers what Im on about,
Cheers,

People, I would just like to point out just how piss-poor qxl.co.uk is. It
delivers substandard goods that either dont work, or have been returned by a
previous owner because of faults/lack of quality.
Steer clear of them at all costs, unfortunately a couple of us here learnt
the hard way.
And tell anyone who shops online regularly, they are crap.

martian bard would like to establish a Quickdot connection with you.
martian has created one end of the connection and is waiting for you to
activate your end.

Quickdot is an innovative, Web-based communication shortcut. Through your
Personal Communication Portal, you keep in touch with friends, family, and
co-workers that you communicate with frequently.

You get a virtual message board connecting you and each of your buddies.
Whatever you type on your dotboard will be posted on your buddy's and vice
versa. It's free, it's quick, and it's available wherever you are, through
the Internet.

martian already has a free Quickdot account. As soon as you sign up for
your free account, Quickdot connects the dot between you and martian.

To activate your Quickdot connection with martian bard, just go to this
URL and follow the brief instructions on the screen:

I see the BBC are conducting a poll to find a generic term for web users.
Something like the word 'viewer' is to TV.

I reckon that a marketing database matching browsing habits to demography

be quite valuable too...

Hmm, £9.52 for 24 months is less than half the cost of the PC, and that
 would
be depreciated somewhat over that time.

I guess they're hoping to recoup the cost on the interconnect fees - if
everyone spent 25-30 quid a month on phone calls I reckon they might break
 even
on the retail price of the PC (assuming they get half of the total cost of
 the
 call).

If these free PCs are based on the interconnect fees, expect offers like
 this
to dry up sometime next year (24 months before the 2002 telecoms
 deregulation
 date)
