[FRIAM] blog stuff for the average bear?

2011-07-28 Thread Gillian Densmore
Hi all after a bit of proding from the famly and one of them making a
domain for me it has come to my attention they thought it'd be nice if
in the process of seting up my website I added a blog.
I'm kinda stuck to what solution to use!
i've checked out wordpress in the past and theming it made my eyes glaze over.
Some reviews swear by drupal.
Any thoughts for the average bear?

I've been posting more on
Google+https://plus.google.com/114865618166480775623than on my blog.
Don't know if I'll continue, but it's a nice change. (If
anyone wants an invitation, let me know.)

2011-07-28 Thread Greg Sonnenfeld
Hello,

I'd give Wordpress a try again. Themeing is very simple if you just
download one of the hundreds of available templates. You can download
and activate them from the wordpress control panel. Then changing the
main or background picture is as easy as uploading a photo under the
header menu.

Most of the other CMS solutions seemed more complex and overly
complicated when compared to wordpress.

My solution would be to download LAMP/MAMP or WAMP, copy over
wordpress, then find a theme you like. Presto your done except for
blog content.

programmers find simple solutions to complex problems. The code
written by topnotch programmers may appear obvious, once it is
finished, but it is vastly more difficult to create.

2011-07-28 Thread Robert J. Cordingley

Gillian:

You could try iWeb - Web design for the rest of us -
http://www.apple.com/ilife/iweb/ It's part of iLife and may already be
on your Mac. There's a real simple blog template.

iWeb features ready-made templates for welcome, about me, photo
album, movie, blog, and podcast pages. Create as many pages as you
   like.

Apple provides some 9 widgets including YouTube, Google Maps, mobileMe
gallery... If you need more sophistications with categories, tags,
archives and other WordPress flora and fauna, well then you may have to
try WordPress again. Hope this helps.

Thanks
Robert
