Then you should get credit for trading-in the old licenses for new ones
and I'm pretty sure it's more than 22%.

Hello.
I'd like to ask some of you who upgraded your NGX to R70 + software
blades if you had to pay a lot of money.

We recently got a quote from CheckPoint for the migration.
According to that, before discount, they charge us over 70%

of the new

version Product since their trade-in limit is 22%. Even after
discount, we can trade-in only about 50% of product price

of what we have now.

It doesn't make sense to me.

Are you covered by an Enterprise Software Subscription ?
Because if you would, when you do functionality upgrade it
should cost you a little bit less than what you're saying.

Thank you for the information.
We are doing software to software upgrade.

Since we are also upgrading our IBM hardware due to the EOL, they suggested
their new appliances and we asked to include both options (appliances and
software-only) in the quote. Finding their appliances being so expensive,
we've decided to go with the software-only option.

I'll talk to the sales person again.
Thank you.

I can personally confirm that legacy (that is, anything
pre-Blade) does, in fact, work with R70. I've upgraded
customers with both Express and pro licenses -- without any
licensing issues whatsoever (database conversion issues is a
 different story).
The caveat emptor to all of this is the following:
 1) An NGX-licensed manager cannot manage a blade-licensed
appliance (although, from what I've been told, the opposite
(a blade manager managing NGX gateways) does work)
 2) NGX-licensed environments can't use blade additive products

Regarding trade-in value, my understanding is that, so long
as your licenses are current, the functionality upgrade from
NGX to blade licensing is not all that bad -- 100% credit for
the value of the product being traded in towards a comparable
or better blade product -- certainly not $0, but almost
reasonable none the less. I have not heard of a 22% cap on
the product value when doing software functionality upgrades
-- and just went through this with a few of my customers.
Are you factoring in trade-ins from software to appliances?

Now, those sales guys have proved not to be 100% right on
 R70 stuff,
and if you tried Pro/Express licenses with R70 and that
 worked fine,
seems ike they were wrong. I'll have to do a few tests myself.

Those are great news, by the way.

[FW-1] Anyone have HW specs on UTM appliances?

2009-07-28 Thread Michael Haffely

Hi,

We are looking at the UTM 570, 1070, 2070, 3070 and are trying to determine the
best box for our needs. I have seen the table on Check Point's site with the
throughput specifications. What I would like to know, given R70's performance
enhancements with multi-CPU processing, is the processor speed/configuration in
the boxes as this has been the limiting factor in our current configuration.

I have the hardware information for the 570 and will share if anyone is
interested. Anyone have HW specifications for the other boxes?

Thanks,

Michael Haffely
