Re: [Audyssey] animals in accessible gaming

2008-04-24 Thread Dark
Hmmm Sean, while I'd agree nickel's question is ambiguous, I don't think
your right in equating games where you play as an animal as automatically
children's games.

In mainstream games afterall, there are lots of games with very serious,
hard core gameplay elements but with a cute and whimsical story involving
animals, like a cartoon.

the Sonic the hedgehog games by Sega, the crash bandicoot series on the
playstation, super monkey ball for the gamecube and others. All of these
though, are very serious games played by very serious people.

sonic for example had incredibl speed in gameplay and some of the most
dificult time trial possible in a platform game, where as super monkey ball
involved entirely new 3D tilt mechanics for a very inervative puzle game. If
someone wanted to do something like this in audio, I'd deffinately like
the idea.

and what sort of game with animals would you suggest besides killing them.
That game with animals brings up childrens ideas of doing weird and sappy
 things.
If you want to bore someone well.
I know this may sound shellow but the reason there probably is no games
with animals in em for the blind is probably because no one would play em.
Heck I wouldn't even touch the demo.
So unless there is something more non boring than what comes to mind I am
 not interested.
monsters are fine, jumping over animals and killing them is fine.
But actually being an animal unless it can be made adult enough is just
 dull.
Maybe if you are a child and like crappy sappy things its probably ok.
Sarcasm aside I am not sure what you are getting at.

hi i tell you which game i loved to watch my sister play, was a game
for the sega i think, where you coudl turn into different animals
during play, such as a fox, a dog, a lion, a cat, etcetera, but i
forget the name of it
Each animal provided you with different techniques to overcome puzzles

Re: [Audyssey] harry hollingsworth baseball and football

2008-04-24 Thread Phil Vlasak
Hi Trouble,
I helped Harry develop his baseball game for about five years. There are two
reasons I did not continue developing Harry's Baseball game after he passed
away.
1. It was a play the manager game that did not allow you to throw or bat
like Jim Kitchen's game which people like a lot more.
 2. The Strat-O-Matic baseball simulator
is now much more accessible than it was back in the 80's and 90's.
It was a lot of work just to update the baseball stats each year for Harry's
game.
Phil

the only game that I can come up with that has a whole bunch of

if you haven't checked it out, give it a try. The limited demo

and what sort of game with animals would you suggest besides
 killing
 them.
That game with animals brings up childrens ideas of doing weird and
 sappy
 things.
If you want to bore someone well.
I know this may sound shellow but the reason there probably is no
 games
with animals in em for the blind is probably because no one would
 play
 em.
Heck I wouldn't even touch the demo.
So unless there is something more non boring than what comes to
 mind I
 am
 not interested.
monsters are fine, jumping over animals and killing them is fine.
But actually being an animal unless it can be made adult enough
 is just
 dull.
Maybe if you are a child and like crappy sappy things its
 probably ok.
Sarcasm aside I am not sure what you are getting at.

Hi Trouble,
I helped Harry develop his baseball game for about five years.
It was a lot of work just to update the baseball stats each year for Harry's
game.

[Audyssey] FW: [GMAGamesTalk] VIP Mud Release

Subject: [GMAGamesTalk] VIP Mud Release

This is to announce that VIP Mud version 1.0 will be released on Monday
April 28, 2008. I will be providing an official announcement on that day,
but I thought I'd give a little heads-up for the avid mudders.

The price of the game will be $30, but it will have a free version which
will probably be sufficient for the casual mudder. In any event, there will
be a 30 day trial providing full access to all of Vip Mud's features.

All the details will be provided Monday.

Re: [Audyssey] psp gaming

2008-04-24 Thread Tom Randall
Hi Chrissy and all.

I'm majorly behind on this list. It's funny that you bring up the psp I
was doing some looking around on craigslist and other places and saw
some systems people had up for sale for what seemed to me to be pretty
good prices for what you got. I am actually thinking about getting
another portable system to go along with my good old Atari Lynx. Since
a few of you seem to have a pretty good experience with the psp I have
been doing some reading on gamefaqs and elsewhere about it and it
definitely seems to be a really cool system. I really like the ability
you seem to have to do other things besides game playing like watch
movies and listen to music on it. Of course the info on there is not
going to help us in terms of ways to work the system and play games
which is what this list is great for. I know a couple of you have
talked about doing some podcasts on mainstream consoles and I think this
would be really cool both for people who may not have considered playing
on a mainstream console and for those of us who are not real familiar
with the good and bad points of the new ones.

For now though, if anyone would like to give me some comments either on
or off list about the psp in particular I would be really interested to
hear them. I am interested to hear if you are able to start games by
yourself with or without sighted assistance, ditto for playing music
and/or movies. Also, are you able to save and return to games by
yourself and if not, how big of a deal is this to you? Last, do you
frequently have to mess with the system settings, those seem pretty
extensive according to gamefaqs, and I'd imagine you would need sighted
assistance to get very far in them. If this is just an occasional thing
I could deal with it but if it is something you have to deal with all
the time that would definitely be a negative factor as I do not always
have sighted people around to help me fiddle with my game. By the way,
when I say are you able to do these things without sighted assistance, I
realize that there is no accessibility per se and that some memorization
of button presses and so forth is necessary this is fine and I am not
intimidated by that so long as it is possible.

All other comments either positive or negative are welcome, these are
just some basic questions that I have that will help me decide if I want
to get into this or not. The prices for various packages people are
selling I've seen pretty much range between $100 and $200 depending on
what they are including in the deal. I can afford to spend that much
but nonetheless it is a serious amount of money to me and not something
I want to spend if this is not going to be something that I will be
wanting to use quite a bit. Of course the best thing will be for me to
actually get my hands on a psp and try it out and I am working on that
as well, I'll bet one of my nieces or nephews either has one or they
have a friend who does. I am looking at used systems in order to save
money.

Looking forward to hearing from some of you about this.

Regards,

Tom

Re: [Audyssey] the jungle book

2008-04-24 Thread constantine (on laptop)
I have to agree here. Saying can you make this game, with no backing ideas
or suggestions, isn't really helpful and its annoying to have to go through
all those emails. (I'll be honest, after the first 3 I stopped reading
messages with subject lines like bat man etc. Now, if it was something
like this:

Can a game be developed where you race against 5 or 6 other cars, winning
tracks and cars as you go? You could have power ups on the track, and maybe
lasers to shoot the other cars off the course. You could also make money to
buy different things such as nitros, etc. Or maybe make a game like lego
racers (god that would be so fun!). If this was me, I'd give a lot of
different and interesting ideas, twists, etc to the game, so it would be
more interesting to play, so you wouldn't be replaying the movie. Sure it
might be fun to do that but, I wouldn't want to just play through it. I'd
want some differences; maybe you could list some? You could also site some
reasons why you think this game would be a good goal for a developer?
Or as josh said, learn a programming language (I started with visual basic),
and try creating something like that?

There's also copyright issues to consider, last but not least. I'm not going
to go into all of them because Thomas did a great job on that, and I'm
getting tired over here *yawns*.

Keep some of those things in mind the next time you post. Also keep in mind
how long it takes a game developer to create said game. Sure you might think
a few months, but its backbreaking work, I'm sure, with little or no
bennifits. If people don't like the game, there not going to buy it; pure
and simple. If they don't buy it, there goes the dev, trying to make a
living. Of course he or she probably won't use the ag market for this; but,
if you don't make a prophit, what's the point? If you make a very good game,
a game which you had to buy sound libraries and such for, and you get
nothing but headache in return? Not to mention it takes a lot longer because
we don't have that many game devs out here that post to this list.

I'm probably missing some things; but, as I said, I'm tired.

As they say in the stand, by stephen king, M O O N...that spells tired!
Laws yes!

Have a good day from Tyler C. Wood!
