[Audyssey] Other good muds for blind people
Hi Folks, I have already played Alter Eon and Miriani muds, but Miriani is down until the third of September. Does anyone know of any other good muds I can try, as I am not that keen on Alter Eon? New Moon and Godwars2 are two of my favorites. Godwars2 is easily the most advanced mud to date, save maybe slipgate legacy. It's entirely pvp however. Sadly I couldn't help you get started with new moon, I suicided my main characters and haven't gotten the motivation to make new ones yet. You could also try project bob, its essentially a mud where you can do basically anything you want with your character. Basically unlike most muds, anything you spend can be gotten back, save money. You can even rebuild your character from the ground up without losing a thing, its like a reroll without having to gain your power back. That's not entirely clear, but it's popularly believed that it's the glittering ice shard you get after slaying the Frost Demon. The thing is, the item isn't actually used during the quest. it's used once you get the special item that's the reward for the quest. At least that's the popular belief. Hi Phil, You will be happy to know I have finally managed to get into the head master's office. One of the issues was a Windows resource issue do to too many background processes running at the same time the head masters office chapter was loading. Most of the rest of the game runs fine under the same conditions, but there must be something about the head master's office that eats a lot of system processes while it is loading. Just for your information here is what I had to unload in order to insure a successful entry into that chapter without a system crash. First, unload my screen reader. Usually, i play with the game with Window Eyes in sleep mode, but even then it uses memory and process power that was obviously too much for my system to handle while playing Sarah. So unloading the screen reader was the first half of the issue. Second, I looked around for any other applications that might be slowing down the system and eating both processor and memory. I decided that my antivirus program wasn't being used at the time so I exited it and stopped all background processes.Suddenly system performence speed up, and I was hoping that it would give my system an added boost for the game. Voila! I went into Sarah and loaded a saved game where Sarah is standing in the hallway entrence to the head master's office, started a patronis going, gave the gargoils the password, waited until Sarah announced head master's entry hall, and everything apparently loaded successfully. IN conclusion it was either my screen reader running, my antivirus program, or both that were ttaking away CPU and memory requirements in order to successfully load the head master's office chapter of Sarah. Now, that issue seams to be solved for me, and i now know if I am going to have an extended amount of time playing that game best to disable av and screen reader apps before launching the game. P.S. My gaming desktop, the one I do most of my game playing on, has a 1.2 GHZ AMD processor, 512 MB of ram, a 80 GB hard drive, Windows XP Professional,Window Eyes 6.1, and AVG antivirus. That should give you a general idea of the system it is running on and Window Eyes 6.1 and AVG were the two applications I disabled to free up mem and CPU power for Sarah. The closest you'll get to warring factions type games where muds are concerned would be assault, and that's not really a trading game. Mostly you build up a base with money, or gathered resources depending on which version you're playing, I prefer the resource gatherer myself, and fight with other players. There's no AI. It's interesting ... for about 10 minutes. Then someone hacks into your base, lays down a virus before you can even get started, comes through and decimates you with bombers. If any of you think miriani's bad, you haven't tried assault. Mostly you build up a base with money, or gathered resources depending on which version you're playing, I prefer the resource gatherer myself, and fight with other players. There's no AI. It's interesting ... for about 10 minutes. Then someone hacks into your base, lays down a virus before you can even get started, comes through and decimates you with bombers. If any of you think miriani's bad, you haven't tried assault. A few muds that I have frequented and enjoyed are the following: legends of Karinth karinth.com port 1234 (very in-depth and highly customizable, roleplay accepted) Legend of the jedi legendsofthejedi.com port 5656 (star-wars based, rp-enforced, permanent death.) lensmoor lensmoor.org port 4000 (rp-heavy but not enforced, I forgot the category that goes between accepted and enforced. It does have wilderness but a blind person can get through it with some patience and by reading room descriptions, several races, is classless, has a fantastic crafting system and a wealth of rp or questing or pk if you opt in to the pvp aspect) discworld discworld.atuin.net port 23 (it's big, my first mud, has a lot of people, so many features I can't even count, people can rp if they want but don't have to, you can hack and slash, do quests, or do all of the things that so many people think are useless like shopping, buying pets, etc. I should really go back there and look Missy up especially now that Miriani is down for a week. I still have characters on there) I'd also check the mud connecter or mud magic's top ten or top 20 muds to see if there is something that strikes your fancy. Good luck!
