Last year I experimented with both the PHP and Python Ganglia Nagios plugins. I ran into performance problems with both - granted I was trying to run Nagios and Ganglia together on 1 VM with 2x 2.4 GHz cores for ~650 hosts and ~5000 services. I modified the Python plugin to cache results from gmetad and that provided a significant speedup, but the sheer volume of interpreter instances became the big slowdown. I rewrote the plugin in C and saw a significant reduction in kernel-time overhead. If anyone else is interested or may find use from the plugin, I've finally been cleared to release it: https://github.com/RPI-HPC/check_ganglia_metric I hope at some point to make the Python plugin caching changes available as well. I've already made some minor edits to Mr. Perzl's AIX code and recompiled on
AIX to work around a divide-by-zero bug that causes insanely large negative
values for cpu_wait and cpu_idle when cpu_user + cpu_sys = 100%.
It looks like the original code was borrowed from an IBM example for
libperfstat, and it appears that Mr. Perzl noticed the potential
divide-by-zero error and tried to accommodate for it. Still, these insanely
large negative for cpu_wait and cpu_idle would appear when the server was
completely CPU bound.
This was a crash course in C for me, so I was not able to figure out the
cause. In the end, the work around was simple check for a negative value
and assign 0 instead if it existed.
(I don't mean to belittle Mr. Perzl's work here; I am very grateful for his
efforts in bringing Ganglia to AIX, and I'm happy to assist in any way I can
toward its improvement.)

I did it in the Rocks5.5. I would suggest that you uninstall the ROCKS roll for Ganglia and install Ganglia manually. Then you will be able to patch ganglia-web accordingly. I would suggest you go through the documentation here: http://sourceforge.net/apps/trac/ganglia/wiki/ganglia_configuration It's not that difficult to install manually. If you run into issues, you can post back here or go to irc.freenode.net to ask for advice. If you really don't want to do this manually, I would suggest you talk to the ROCKS developers and ask them to update their version of Ganglia and/or make it support the GPU patch.
