g_b File - E mail problems?
Hi Have you stopped getting emails from this group suddenly? It is highly unlikely that your name has been deleted from the list. We do not delete anybodys membership until and unless the person repeatedly spams or sends pornographic/crude emails you might not be getting your mails is because your email is on the bouncing list. Some members have trouble with bouncing e-mails: Messages that are sent out by the group cannot be delivered to their mailboxes and are sent back to Yahoo. This can happen for various reasons, for example, when their mailboxes are full, or their e-mail addresses have become obsolete, etc. Yahoo doesn't tolerate bouncing mails and will deactivate these persons' memberships. It will, however, send you a reactivation request. All you have to do is reply to that (once you've fixed the problem with your mailbox), and Yahoo will resume sending you the messages. We will also send out these requests daily. Bounced Messages If you subscribe to a Yahoo Groups discussion group under one of the e-mail options (normal or digest), Yahoo Groups will suspend sending mail to you after repeated attempts bounce back. To see your recent bounced messages, view your Yahoo Groups preferences at http://groups.yahoo.com/myprefs and click Bounce history for your e-mail address. For more information on bounced-message handling by Yahoo Groups, search Yahoo Groups help for the word bounce. Why does it say my account is bouncing? If group messages sent to your email address are returned to Yahoo! Groups as undeliverable (bouncing), your Yahoo! Groups account may be temporarily disabled. Messages can be returned for several reasons: Your mailbox may be full -- try deleting messages from your Inbox. Your ISP may have a backlog of email to process -- contact your ISP. Your ISP may be blocking email from Yahoo! Groups -- contact your ISP. In many cases, Yahoo! Groups can automatically reactivate your account once the delivery problem is solved. However, in some cases you will need to manually reactivate your account: 1. Visit your My Groups page. 2. Look for a bounce alert near the top of the page. 3. Click the Alert link to reactivate your account. g_b File - Personal Advertisements
Hi All 2 personal advertisements seeking mates a month are allowed on the list. Its unfair to others if you post your advertisement every few days. In the past, many have complained that they see too many personal advertisements on the list. So a restriction of 2 personal advertisements per month has been imposed. You may, if you wish, place your advertisement in the classified section at www.gaybombay.info as well. In case you want to reply to a members personal advertisement, kindly click on the persons email address. This will ensure that your reply goes to the concerned person and not to entire list which is what happens when you hit the reply button. g_b AIDS films get graphic
AIDS films get graphic By: Alisha Coelho Date: 2009-12-01 Place: Mumbai http://www.mid-day.com/news/2009/dec/011209-Aids-Control-risque-shots-condom .htm Unable to find actors for risque shots, the Mumbai District Aids Control Society has decided to use animated ones for its three 10-minute films on Aids aimed at sex workers, transgenders and gay groups. We found animation the only viable and still powerful option. There are many things enacting putting on a condom or depicting sexual relations between partners from these three high-risk groups that we could not find actors for, said Dr S Kudalkar, programme director for MDACS. It is a unique concept. We've never used animation for Aids awareness. The seriousness of the topic is conveyed well. We have also got full approval from National Aids Control Organisation on the matter, said Kudalkar. He added that the films would not be broadcast for the general public, as the images might seem pornographic. Researchers spent a week with each of the groups to do justice to the script. The films have been made in Hindi, English and Marathi. They will be screened today at Shanmukhananda Hall for over 2,000 guests.
g_b Want to be a man? Wear earrings!
Want to be a man? Wear earrings! DNA Monday, November 30, 2009 23:59 IST http://www.dnaindia.com/lifestyle/report_want-to-be-a-man-wear-earrings_1318 462 javascript:emailArticle(1318462,1058781); EmailEmail http://www.dnaindia.com/dnaprint.asp?newsid=1318462 PrintPrint http://www.dnaindia.com/lifestyle/report_want-to-be-a-man-wear-earrings_131 8462#share ShareShare Mumbai: If you have been wondering whether to get your ears pierced then you should probably just go ahead and do it. Don't fear what people will say or think because they may not really have a good idea about style. In fact, men's earrings are considered quite sexy by a lot of women. According to stylist Anaita Shroff Adajania, earrings on men can make a strong style statement. They (earrings) are almost like a tattoo; if you wear them, then you are making some sort of a declaration about your personality. It can be that you want others to perceive you as a cool person or as somebody who is confident to live life on his own terms. But whatever your reason is, choose earrings to suit your face otherwise you may look like a disaster, she says. Shroff believes that earrings look very hot on men with a rugged look. It's also important to match the earrings with the occasion. For an office environment diamond ear studs are best suited as they look neat and prim for formal occasions. But the style quotient apart, there is also a general perception in our society that a man who wears earrings seems rowdy and of indecent character. Ankur Arora, a marketing professional has felt that. As part of my job profile I have to meet many clients every day so I received a scolding from my boss the day I got my ears pierced. I was quite confident of my look but he thought that my earrings would drive all the clients away, admits Arora. Designer Ana Singh doesn't believe in this theory and considers it a personal point of view. She says, Earrings in India have long been associated with the Rajput clan and royalty in general. If you happen to go to any one of the parties in Jaipur, you will see many Rajput men wearing a bandhgala with big earrings. Since Rajputs have been warriors, earrings make them look all the more macho and handsome, so it depends how well you are able to carry it off, she explains. How to wear Earrings can be worn in both ears or just one ear, depending on your choice. Though the right ear been popularly perceived to be associated with a particular sexual orientation, that really could just be a myth. I have seen Salman Khan wear an earring only in his right ear and he is certainly not gay. My friends teased me when I got my right ear pierced but because I am confident, they have nothing more to say, says Pallav Medhi, an advertising professional, who was inspired by Salman to get his right ear pierced. image001.gifimage002.gifimage003.gif
g_b URGENT New Year party feedback required
Hi everyone, I'm emailing this in my capacity as one of the GB party organisers, and we need some URGENT feedback about the New Year's Party. As so many of you know, this has been GB's way of both ending and starting the year with a blast, and we're hoping to do so again this year. Every year we've seen the numbers at the party rise - I think last year we touched 600. A lot of these are people who come from out of town for the party, though we've noticed that as the evening goes on, quite a lot of locals who were planning their own parties, can't resist dropping by as well! Its the one time of the year we can party till 4 am and everyone wants to take advantage of that. We've had parties at a number of venues, with some memorable ones, not always for the best reasons - yes, the name of a place called Chat Masala is burned in my mind, for the almost total chaos of that night. Its the one time we've been caught between people inside complaining it was too packed, and others outside begging to be let in, no matter how packed it was. Total chaos, though I'm sure it was fun for some... For the last few years we've stuck to our regular party venue of Karma/Liquid Lounge at Girgaum Chowpatty, since we've found it large enough (we take over the whole ground floor), reasonably accessible (near Charni Road train station), quite well laid out, and acceptable service and food and alcohol. And the prices, while unavoidably higher for New Year's, have been substantially lower than most other New Year Parties (we've had straight people trying to crash since its been such a good deal!) We would like to stick with Karma, since if one thing Chat Masala taught us is that best not to try new places on New Year's. But there's been a change of management at Karma and the new team is approaching it as they would New Years anywhere else - which is simply a venue's best change to make money all year long. In the last few years, as this habit of going out to party has grown, the importance of New Year's as a moneyspinner for a venue has just increased hugely. So the new team at Karma is just looking at it this way, which I suppose I can't object to, but its still a bit tough for us. They started off negotiations this year at a really high price, and while Dee has managed to bargain them down, and make sure they stick to the usual unlimited alcohol and dinner deal, its still working out quite high, Last year, entry (unlimited booze, till 4 am, etc etc) was was Rs1800. This year it looks like the best we can do is around Rs2300 - a a straight Rs500 up over last year. This is pretty heart stopping, and our first reaction was - no way! But we've been asking around, and the options don't look that great. They are either too small, or don't have proper licenses (the introduction of the compulsory DJ license has taken a lot of places off the market), or are just not as well organised - the sort of places that seem like a good deal, but where you just know its because they won't buy enough booze, so will run out at 1 am. And the few comparable places look like they're going to be even more expensive - one place in Worli set Rs3000 as the absolute floor, with possible increases above that. Even at Rs2300, we'll be better priced than most places. And while there's a big jump in price, as one friend of mine said realistically, the Rs500 more is what many of us end up paying at a regular multiplex screening. There is an option to this, of course, which is just not having a New Year's party. Forget this whole crazy night, stay at home and go to bed early. But I don't know, its a primal thing, but on this one night of the year where we can stay out late and party, most of us just want to! We just want to have both our old friends to hug at midnight as well as hot new guys we hope will become friends after hugging them! So anyway, we're asking everyone for what they think, and we thought we'd check on the GB list as well. Please think about it, and the options and mail what you feel, either to the list, or me directly, or maybe sms Dee, since many of you have his number, but URGENTLY. Is Rs2300 too much so lets forget a GB New Years Party? Or what the hell, unlimited booze and food and on till 4.00 am, so lets party?! Vikram

g_b The GayBombay Special Sunday Meet on Prevention, Testing and Living with HIV
The GayBombay Special Sunday Meet on Prevention, Testing and Living with HIV at Ghatkopar on 6 December 2009 Stop! Wait! Don't delete This invite thinking this is just another HIV Awareness and Safer Sex lecture GayBombay is organising on the occasion of World AIDS Day and that you know it all. Or are you thinking it can't happen to you? Or are you the one who thinks that ignorance is bliss and you don't want sleepless nights wondering if you have got the bug the next time that you have a diarrhea or fever or a swelling that's taking long to go? If you are going to delete this mail for any of the above reasons than you probably don't care about your life! But the reason you shouldn't decline this invitation and come to this event is because this is not merely a mundane lecture on safer sex practices or HIV prevention and testing as the title may suggest, but an interactive session with an extremely gay-friendly Doctor who has a wealth of knowledge and experience in treating HIV+ people for over 22 years. Dr.Shirish G.Kulkarni, MD, DDV, is a Dermatologist, Venereologist, Leprologist, Sexologist and AIDS Specialist and heads the Thane District ART (Anti Retroviral Therapy) Centre where he is currently monitoring the health of over 9000 HIV+ persons who are registered with the Centre. Dr.Kulkarni will be keeping the academic lecture on HIV AIDS and STDs to a minimum but will be informally sharing his experience and knowledge with us while answering our queries. He will also be dedicating a part of his talk on the research and breakthroughs being made in the field of treatment of HIV. Shy about asking questions? Worried that if you ask a question, others may think you are positive. Rest assured we have devised a mechanism where in questions can be discretely and anonymously asked. If anyone has any concerns or queries on this meeting, please mail Vikram at vik...@gmail.com or Jayesh at de.joy...@gmail.com. Specifically, if you are positive and are worried about being outed about your status at this meeting, please be assured that NO ONE will be asked about their status whether positive or negative. If anyone wants to volunteer personal information that's great, but NO ONE will be forced to reveal anything. And finally, we won't just be looking at AIDS. Horrifying as it is, AIDS is not the only disease that threatens the community. There are a host of other STDs and problems that the community risks and the problem is that as we focus on AIDS, we may be getting lax about these other diseases. We do have a separate workshop planned on STDs, but if anyone has queries on them Dr.Kulkarni will try and answer them. Day Date: Sunday, 06 December 2009 Time: 4:00 PM - 7:00 PM. Venue: Ground floor Dhanji Devshi Rashtriya Shala Near Zaverben Popatlal Sabhagriha, Upashray Lane, Ghatkopar (East) Mumbai 400077 There is NO charge to come to the meet. Directions: For those coming by train: Alight at Ghatkopar Station and exit the station using the Mumbai CST end foot over-bridge on to the eastern side of the station. Walk towards Platinum Shopping Arcade and take a left turn into the lane before it. Walk straight until you hit upon a Jain Temple. Turn left and you have the school on your right. For those coming by the highway: turn into Ghatkopar at Amar Mahal Junction. (Left turn if you are coming from Sion and right turn if you are coming from Thane). Drive down straight until you come to a bridge that crosses the railway line. Turn right onto the road that goes along the railway line. Than take the first right and the left turn at the Jain Temple. Zaverben Popatlal Sabhagriha and Rashtriya Shala are pretty well known in Ghatkopar. And anybody would be able to direct you to the venue once you arrive at Ghatkopar Station East. So don't worry if you can't remember the directions. Click on the following link to see a map of the area around the eastern side of Ghatkopar Station http://www.wikimapia.org/#lat=19.0844661lon=72.9=82024z=18l=0m=m Note: 1. Do get your friends along to help them gain access to the group especially if they are not netizens. 2. You do not have to be out to the world to attend. This is a discreet event being held as a clean, safe social get-together of a non-sexual nature. 3. You need to be at least 18 years of age to attend. 4. There may be many who will prefer being discreet or may be still be coming to terms with themselves hence a request that all be sensitive to this and act and dress accordingly. 5. To identify the group look out for someone wearing a black cap See you all on Sunday. - This event is organised by: http://www.gaybombay.org Right of admission reserved.
g_b In a closet darkly: why disclosure lies beyond corporate assurances
In a closet darkly: why disclosure lies beyond corporate assurances Fear of discrimination at the workplace keeps HIV-positive employees from sharing their status; activists, policy experts criticize proposed HIV Bill http://www.livemint.com/2009/11/30222326/In-a-closet-darkly-why-disclo.html ?h=B http://www.livemint.com/2009/11/30222326/In-a-closet-darkly-why-disclo.html? h=B Jacob P. Koshy, Mon, Nov 30 2009, Live Mint New Delhi: Debashish doesn't remember being shocked or afraid the day he learnt of his HIV-positive status. I was numb all day. I spent all evening in the park, came home, and bawled. That was two Decembers ago. The 28-year-old, who prefers to use a single name, doesn't have AIDS and can afford good healthcare. He says he's lucky because his parents and siblings are supportive. They are distraught, but because I'm not sick now, they are hoping I get well. I'm a realist who's only crossed his fingers. But that's also kept him from disclosing his HIV-positive status to his employers. There's no way I was ever going to tell my colleagues. It's not going to be of any help, said Debashish, who said that till February he worked in one of Bangalore's well-known software companies. He had read about AIDS on the Internet and knew how HIV was transmitted even before he got it and saw Philadelphia a long time back. In the Tom Hanks movie, an HIV-positive lawyer takes on his employers after they fire him for his medical condition. Debashish knew his rights but feared being a poster boy. I'm not saying they would have sacked me, but come on, I didn't want the whole world treating me like a curio. This, in spite of corporate India increasingly signing commitments and government departments prominently displaying policies condemning discriminatory practices towards employees with HIV/AIDS. Debashish is one of 2.31 million people in India with HIV/AIDS, according to a 2007 estimate by the government's National AIDS Control Organisation, or Naco, the latest data available. That includes 89% adults in the 15-49 age group, 7.5% aged 50 and above, with the remaining 3.5% who are younger than 15. The prevalence rate of HIV/AIDS in the country is 0.34%, and women account for 39% of the figures. Last month, India's labour ministry came out with a national policy on HIV/AIDS, and the 32-page document prescribes, but does not mandate, measures for organizations on HIV/AIDS. There are serious initiatives to educate employees about HIV, but there's no real trend or pattern in employees proactively disclosing their status (HIV-positive/AIDS) in India, said Joshila Pallapati, programme officer at the International Labour Organization, or ILO, in New Delhi. ILO closely worked with the government in preparing the national policy. Several companies, including Gujarat Ambuja Exports Ltd, Apollo Tyres Ltd, Crompton Greaves Ltd, SRF Ltd, Ballarpur Industries Ltd, PepsiCo Inc., Hindustan Unilever Ltd and Jubilant Organosys Ltd, have committed to principles such as non-discrimination toward HIV/AIDS employees and creating AIDS awareness in the office. Companies that responded to Mint's queries emphasized that employees who disclosed their HIV-positive status would be taken care of. Signing the policy is just one of the steps... we haven't had to deal with (HIV/AIDS) positive employees yet, but if it were to happen, their well-being would be top priority and no discrimination will occur, said a spokesperson for Bangalore-based pharma company Jubilant Organosys. (The promoters of HT Media Ltd, which publishes Mint, and the promoters of Jubilant Organosys are closely related.) R. Ram, a spokesperson for Hindustan Unilever, added that several initiatives, including HIV/AIDS awareness programmes and access to ART (antiretroviral therapy), were key components of the company's policies. There's also an HIV Bill being pushed by the ministry of health and family welfare and a clutch of advocacy groups such as the Lawyers Collective, ActionAid and the Indian Network for People Living with HIV/AIDS (INP+). The thrust of the Bill, which has been hanging fire since 2006, is to make employers liable for any discrimination at the workplace against HIV/AIDS employees and responsible for guaranteeing them a safe working environment. The law ministry, which must clear all proposed Bills before they are tabled in Parliament, has sent the HIV Bill back to the health ministry. Civil society groups say the Bill isn't going through because the law ministry has watered down several of its provisions. Important portions such as guaranteeing property rights to children of HIV-positive parents, assured treatment at hospitals have been done away with. It can't go in this form, said a member of INP+, who didn't want to be identified. Even if the HIV Bill eventually becomes an Act, AIDS activists as well as policy experts say it wouldn't lead to proactive disclosure at the workplace. Even if explicit discrimination goes away,
g_b The GayBombay Sunday Meet Held at Thane
Most of us are so hung up on sending and getting asls, stats, prefs, got place and not my type - messages, that it becomes vexing after a while and I wished to be in a zone where those criterion didn't matter to meet another gay man. Although I had attended some gay parties after coming to Mumbai, this would be the first time where I would be interacting with a bunch of guys and discussing about homosexuality openly. I suppose it must have taken a lot of courage to come to a meet like this, Umang asked me. I replied there was no question of courage since I badly wanted to attend one of these meets more than anything else. The group was of around twenty people and the meet happened at one of the GayBombay member's house. His mother was also there and I thought it was indeed very brave and understanding of her to allow something like this at their place. After we all gave our intros, his mother was asked about how she was dealing with her son's coming out and I listened to her with heavy heart as her words echoed the feelings of my mother http://samsbloginess.blogspot.com/2009/03/and-i-came-out-to-my-mother.h\ tml . I just hope that at least starting from our generation, when couples become parents, they wake up to the fact that homosexuality is a reality and that their new born could be gay; so that they could be prepared and more tuned to accept the truth later on. Then our discussion steered towards different scenarios of gay life why do people find it difficult to be in relationship even when they long to be in one, how much of an issue is lack of sex in a relationship and how important is sex for a relationship to work, what pick up lines would one use to get a guy fora date and what was the cheesiest that one had to encounter, how would your friendship with your gay friend be affected if he marries a gal and what could be the best approach if one comes to know that his best friend's guy is sleeping around. And lastly, it was heartening to hearwhen they shared their thoughts on how much GayBombay has helped each of them in becoming what they are now, in accepting their sexuality and also blessing them with some everlasting friendships. I feel these kind of meets could bea great relief for many closeted gays if they dare to attend, coz this gives a platform to make themselves realize that they are not alone anda friendship is just a `hi' away and also that meeting other gay guys doesn't always have to be equated with sex. g_b Bangladesh and Its Section 377
http://gaynz.com/blog/redqueen/archives/733 29th September 2009 Bangladesh and Its Section 377 http://gaynz.com/blog/redqueen/archives/733 Posted by: Craig Young Like India and Pakistan, Bangladesh also its colonial era Indian Penal Code “Section 377″, although it hasn’t been enforced for the last two decades. What is life like for its LGBT communities? With 162 million inhabitants, Bangladesh is the seventh most populous nation in the world. Until 1971, it was “East Pakistan,” until neglect and nationalist pressures trumped religious solidarity with Pakistan to its far west, a thousand miles away. It was hit by famine shortly after its war of independence (1974-5) and then languished under military dictatorship for nearly eleven years (1979-1990). Since then, it has been run by two women who alternate as Prime Ministers- Khaledia Zia of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party and Sheikh Hasina of the Awami League. Unfortunately, political violence and corruption seem widespread. Most Bangladeshis (89%) are Sunni Muslims, with a further nine percent Hindu affiliated (9.2%). Section 377 extends to LGBT organisational membership, although this hasn’t stopped the rise of at least three LGBT Bangladeshi organisations- Bangladesh Association of Gays, Boys Only Bangladesh and Shakiyani for lesbians and bisexual women. Furthermore, *hijras *exist here as they do in the rest of South Asia, situational male homosexuality is commonplace, as is gay sex between male cousins and brothers in law, according to Gary Dowsett’s co-authored report on the area. Safe sex education occurs for sex workers, IV drug users and man who have sex with men, and condoms are available although usually discussed only in the context of contraception, with some religious and cultural taboos dampening discussion. Against this, Bangladesh has no shariah law. *Update:* Given the situation above, it’s not too surprising to hear that two Bangladeshi gay men are now seeking asylum in Australia. While the couple offered to have sex before Australian immigration officials to prove their sexuality, they will have to appeal their case for protection visas for the fourth time in over a decade. The couple told Sydney’s * Daily Telegraph* they feared death if their latest bid for refugee status is once again refused at a hearing later this October. It isn’t the first time that concerns have been raised in this context. It is reported that a Federal Court judge recently criticised the Refugee Review Tribunal over this case, finding it was “*deliberately biased*” against the two applicants. Justice Spender found three previous tribunals had “*twisted facts*” to deny the men were gay, using absurd claims they were straight brothers. This was later refuted by DNA testing after anonymous phone call allegations. While a first tribunal found they were homosexual, it refused them entry on the grounds they could avoid persecution in Bangladesh if they were closeted. The High Court overturned this verdict and upheld their appeal stating the gay couple faced a “*real risk*” of harm if they were deported back to Bangladesh Increasingly frustrated by the process, they offered in a submission: “*We are prepared to have an adult witness view us engaged in an act of homosexual intercourse and then attest before you to that fact.”* In a 2007 hearing, the tribunal asked one of the two men an intrusive question: *“if he and the second applicant have sex in the morning*” and “*if they used a lubricant*.” The older partner said he had been “*too embarrassed to answer the personal questions*“, which was later used against him. Human rights lawyer Bruce Levet described the tribunal’s conduct as “* disgraceful*” in the latter context and added :* “I was ashamed to be a lawyer.” T*he men had lived monogamously for 14 years and did not frequent gay pubs or participate in the local gay community. Mr Levet said they had “struggled” to convince the RRAT. He said the Commonwealth had resisted granting the asylum test case for fear of a wave of LGBT human rights refugees. The pair live in southwest Sydney and fled Bangladesh in 1999 after they were stoned, kicked and punched during a hate crime The Tribunal will announce yet another appeal date on October 18. Vikram
