Great work done by the whole group who protested!

I understand that the Mumbai-TV9 protest was recorded on the mobile cams of
the protesters. Can we have someone post the entire recording on YouTube?

Also, the video does not play
on http://www.ndtv.com/video/player/news/outrage-over-tv-sting-on-gays/191806

Is it just a bug on my browser or is it being faced by everyone? Has someone
uploaded the NDTV video on YouTube?

g_b English cricketer comes out

2011-03-01 Thread Vikram D
Steven Davies, a top English cricketer, has come out. What's almost as good is
how well this has been received by the English cricketing establishment:
http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/cricket/8350779/Steven-Davies-England-cricketer-announces-he-is-gay.html
http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/cricket/8350588/Steven-Davies-gay-crickets-big-society-will-treat-a-brave-cricketer-with-respect-he-deserves.html

Sadly, he's not in the current World Cup squad, but he's represented the
country before in both ODIs and T20. A friend of mine who's a manager with a
IPL tells me that Davies is a terrific cricketer who was up for auction at the
IPL (put away any dirty thoughts at up for auction!) and would probably have
got selected as a reserve player, if English tax laws, which take a huge chunk
out of cricketer's IPL earnings, had ensured that all the English cricketers
set their prices really high, with the result that only the guys sure to make
final XI were picked. But he'll almost definitely be playing for England again.

I hope this story gets good coverage in the sports pages. There's a lot of
demand for cricket stories at the moment, so it might, but I get the sense many
sports journalists would be awkward covering the story. But in a sense, that is
exactly why its so important that he came out. Its taking homosexuality - and
over time, hopefully, normalising homosexuality - to an audience that wouldn't
normally have to deal with it. And as the reaction of his teammates shows,
sometimes they can deal with it quite well.

One shouldn't expect miracles at once. My friend the IPL manager was candid
that you get homophobic in most changing rooms. But one has to be careful how
seriously to take it - a lot of it is just jock talk and doesn't necessarily
indicate how people will feel outside. Even the awkwardness may be good, if it
makes guys think about things. And cricket may have an advantage in that its
not a sport where violence and being macho is fetishized - the game does have a
gentleman's tradition to draw on, and as the English team shows, it did

Here's Davies interview where he talks how coming out was scarier than facing
Brett Lee!
http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/cricket/8351004/Steven-Davies-gay-coming-out-was-tougher-than-facing-Brett-Lee.html

He also talks candidly about how being in the closet was crippling him and
affecting his performance, and this is something most of us can relate to.
There will definitely be some, including in the gay community, who question why
he had to come out at all. Here is the answer:

Without the big gloves, he looks vulnerable and sounds taut as a wire. “If I am
brutally honest, I never enjoyed touring because of my secret and having to
conceal my sexuality,” he says. “My friendships with the guys would reach a
certain level, then I’d have to take a step back.

“A two-week tour would feel like two years for me. It was really tough. Cricket
was my escape. When I was playing cricket I was at my happiest because all I
had to worry about was getting runs and taking the catches. It was a relief to
be out in the middle.”

Being selected for the Ashes squad was not an uncomplicated pleasure: it
thrilled him professionally, but he knew the social side of a
three-and-a-half-month tour would be an ordeal. In dressing rooms, hotel rooms
and coffee bars he felt uncomfortable and dreaded being asked even the most
innocuous questions about his love life. “Sooner or later, the conversation
would come round to whether I had a girlfriend. I was scared of that. I could
never be totally relaxed.”

After weeks of angst, he confided in Flower at Loughborough, a few days before
the team left for Australia. The coach was practical as well as understanding.
They talked for an hour about the best way forward.

“He agreed I had to tell the boys. I couldn’t live like this any more.” Flower
and Strauss refused to overplay the tension. “Their line was: 'Steve wants you
to know he’s gay. But it’s not an issue. Let’s just get on with it.’ I owe them
both a lot. They were 100 per cent behind me and made me feel everything would
be all right. In fact, I felt I was probably making a big deal out of it.”

Davies admits he was sick with nerves before the final batting session at
Lord’s, where he faced some team-mates for the first time since the revelation.
One by one, they came over to shake his hand and tell him that he had done the
right thing.

Matt Prior, the wicketkeeper, Davies’s friend and rival, went out of his way.
“He came up to me and gave me a hug and we spoke for about five minutes. He
couldn’t believe I had kept it to myself for this long. He said I should have
told him. That was special.”

Re: g_b Researching Queer Lives in India (comment from USA)

2011-03-01 Thread charleston blue

I think that the primary issue is and has always been that of social
labeling.
People generally assertain to catergorize everything even other human beings.
What is worst is when a person accepts a label as an identity. The object is in
the word chosen to catergorize. In this case a few words come to mind gueer,
homosexual, gay, lesbian. At best these may describe a platform of behavior,
fad, lifestyle, or disposition that a character has been assigned to.

History would paint a different picture especially in the application of the
word 'homosexual and its introduction by the church into society. The church
Roman Catholic decided to change one word in the new The New Testament
Gospel,
effeminate and put homosexual in its place. These are two entirely sewperate
and different words. Effeminate in the case of the Gospel is speaking of 'men
who keep young boys for sexual purposes or what is commonly called
pedophilia a practice that has its origin  began centries ago  in the Papal.
Catholic priest engaged in this practice with its alter boys and even gave
way
to the practice of castration amidst its chior boys to enable young boys to
maintain a high saprano voice. It is said that this practice is still
practiced. We can clearly see that the practice of pedophilia is still on going
in the catholic persuasion.

Thus, when the word effeminate was changed to homosexual a viligence of
violence
was born and sparked in every society, and, the fosus on pedophilia was placed
into the darkness where it was practiced, to be silent in the catacombs of the
papal. When the dark secret of the practice of pedophelia emerged into
society
the papal did everything to suficate news of it. I heard it said by a cardinal
(unknown) that: We all have skeletons of darkness that we bare...it is the
hope
that those of the church is not as visible as those of others.

But, in losing let us who actually believe in the gospels entreat what Christ
had to say about the homosexual. Matthew 19: 12...

before we read this scripture we must go to the end of that peice to where it
says: everyone will not accept thes sayings. So it is evident that not all
people will accept the truth of these words. Christ states emphatically that
there are men who have no desire to conjugate with a woman. He labels these
men
'eunuchs. He describes three types of eunuchs (1) one being born naturally
from
its mother's womb [eunuchiod, or, intersexual born individual], another being
made so [castrated male], and last the male who chooses celibusy over worldly
desire to seek a higher porpose {priest, monk].

The person that is commonly called homosexual is the first of these three, the
enuuchiod or the person born naturally from its mother's womb so. The
definition of one such person is called intersexual or a oerson born between
two extremes; in this case those extremes being male and female. No church
will
teach this or preach this.

Very good, said the teacher. Now, Lucy?

That was a fine story Lucy. Johnny do you have a story to share?
Yes, ma'am, my daddy told me this story about my uncle Bob. Uncle Bob

Hello

In the 5th meet participants discussed about what is being queer then terms
coming under umbrella word `Queer'. Below is the synposis of the discussion:

Meet started with the discussion about emeregnce of the word `Queer'. It was
used as derogatory in the west till recently (90s, early 2000). The community
embraced the word started using it so proudly that derogatory reference was
dropped. This is evident from the respectable usage by generic
media. dictionary menaing refers to weird, different from general. One of the
particiapnt defined nicely being queer is anything that is `not normative'.
Hence, even any straight person who does not follow norms will be aprt of queer
group. In today's pervalance it is LGBT umbrella term  can also encompass:
pansexual, pomosexual, intersexual, genderqueer, asexual and autosexual people,
and even gender normative heterosexuals whose sexual orientations or activities
place them outside the heterosexual-defined mainstream, e.g. BDSM
practitioners, or polyamorous persons.
While discussing being gay queer, the queer  aspects of behavior was discussed
One of the point put forth was just because someone chooses different sexuality
not necessarily that person becomes `queer'. . Some were of the opinion to be
very queer some chose to be normative. Hopefully, in a process a day will
come when to be queer will be a norm queer will not be queer :).
One of the sub topic that energed was, what defines being or characteristics of
being gay. Group overwhelmently described these points, but the for the want of
time need to stick to agenda had to bolt the discussion. However, definitely
this can be a subject for coming one of the meet.

Thanks everyone who attended look forward for the next meet.

P.S.: Sorry for the delay in sending out the report.

For Deep:

*Two Woodpeckers*

So, this Mexican woodpecker and a Canadian woodpecker were in Mexico arguing
about which country
had the toughest trees. The Mexican woodpecker claimed  Mexico had a tree
that no woodpecker could peck.

The Canadian woodpecker accepted his challenge and promptly pecked a hole in
the tree with no problem.
 The Mexican woodpecker was amazed.

The Canadian woodpecker then challenged the Mexican woodpecker
to peck a tree in  Canada   that was absolutely 'impeccable' (a term
frequently used by woodpeckers ).
The Mexican woodpecker expressed confidence that he could do it and accepted
the challenge.

The two of them flew to  Canada   where the Mexican woodpecker successfully
pecked the so-called 'impeccable' tree almost without breaking a sweat...

Both woodpeckers were now terribly confused. How is it that the Canadian
woodpecker was able to peck the Mexican tree, and the Mexican woodpecker was
able to
peck the Canadian tree, yet neither was able to peck the tree in their own
country?

After much woodpecker pondering, they both came to the same conclusion:
Apparently, Tiger Woods and Shane Warne were right, when they  said,
your pecker gets harder when you're away from home.

 Dear Friend,

It’s been nearly two years since India threw out Section 377, the colonial
era law that criminalized LGBT people. It was a great victory for equality
that has allowed many to step out of the shadows and be embraced for who
they are without fear of humiliation, or worse, being thrown in jail. But
now that progress is being publicly threatened by TV9 Telugu and its CEO,
 Ravi Prakash.

Last week TV9 aired a sensational and homophobic report on the gay
community in Hyderabad. In the hit piece, TV9 reporters describe gays as
“slaves to an unnatural lifestyle” and the community as “anti-social” while
exposing the names, photos, sexual preferences and professions of a series
of men they targeted and entrapped on online dating sites.

The show was horrific and it is taking a toll: some of those targeted have
gone into hiding, one victim attempted suicide after being humiliated in
the segment, and it’s threatening India’s hard-won progress.

Activists have rallied in Hyderabad, Mumbai, Bengaluru, and Delhi this
week to demand that Ravi Prakash stop airing this exploitative show and
publicly apologize. But we need to surface an unprecedented amount of
people power across India and the diaspora to make him do it. Will you take
a moment to help by sending an urgent message directly to Ravi demanding
that he stop broadcasting the show and apologize, and then ask your friends
and family to do the same?

 http://www.allout.org/tv9apologizehttp://allout.us2.list-manage.com/track/click?u=331fc1df335e7c45592afe8eeid=2fa40c8bbbe=3ee3f46cd2

In his own words, Prakash has said he dreams that TV9 could be, “a news
channel that would be fiercely independent and bring the best professional
practices to Telugu journalism.” Unfortunately the recently aired program
makes a mockery of that sentiment, and is likely to fan the flames of
 bigotry and intolerance.

Ravi has the opportunity to use his powerful media platform to undo some
of the damage, but thus far he has remained publicly silent while continuing
to broadcast the program in other cities. The situation is escalating and
many have already been hurt. Enough is enough.

Lets make sure that Ravi Prakash of TV9 personally issues an apology,
setting a positive example for other broadcasters temped to pass off
homophobia as journalism. Send him a direct message demanding an
apology, and then spread the word:

g_b File - E mail problems?

2011-03-01 Thread gay_bombay

Hi

Have you stopped getting emails from this group suddenly? It is highly unlikely
that your name has been deleted from the list. We do not delete anybody’s
membership until and unless the person repeatedly spams or sends
pornographic/crude emails

you might not be getting your mails is because your email is on the bouncing
list. Some members have trouble with bouncing e-mails: Messages that are sent
out by the group cannot be delivered to their mailboxes and are sent back to
Yahoo. This can happen for various reasons, for example, when their mailboxes
are full, or their e-mail addresses have become obsolete, etc. Yahoo doesn't
tolerate bouncing mails and will deactivate these persons' memberships. It
will, however, send you a reactivation request. All you have to do is reply
to that (once you've fixed the problem with your mailbox), and Yahoo will
resume sending you the messages. We will also send out these requests daily.

Bounced Messages
If you subscribe to a Yahoo Groups discussion group under one of the e-mail
options (normal or digest), Yahoo Groups will suspend sending mail to you
after repeated attempts bounce back. To see your recent bounced messages,
view your Yahoo Groups preferences at http://groups.yahoo.com/myprefs and
click Bounce history for your e-mail address. For more information on
bounced-message handling by Yahoo Groups, search Yahoo Groups help for the word
bounce.

Why does it say my account is bouncing?
If group messages sent to your email address are returned to Yahoo! Groups as
undeliverable (bouncing), your Yahoo! Groups account may be temporarily
disabled.
Messages can be returned for several reasons:
• Your mailbox may be full -- try deleting messages from your Inbox.
• Your ISP may have a backlog of email to process -- contact your ISP.
• Your ISP may be blocking email from Yahoo! Groups -- contact your ISP.
In many cases, Yahoo! Groups can automatically reactivate your account once the
delivery problem is solved. However, in some cases you will need to manually
reactivate your account:
1. Visit your My Groups page.
2. Look for a bounce alert near the top of the page.
3. Click the Alert link to reactivate your account.

g_b File - Personal Advertisements

2011-03-01 Thread gay_bombay

Hi All

2 personal advertisements seeking mates a month are allowed on the list. It’s
unfair to others if you post your advertisement every few days. In the past,
many have complained that they see too many personal advertisements on the
list. So a restriction of 2 personal advertisements per month has been imposed.
You may, if you wish, place your advertisement in the classified section at
www.gaybombay.info as well.

In case you want to reply to a member’s personal advertisement, kindly click on
the person’s email address. This will ensure that your reply goes to the
concerned person and not to entire list which is what happens when you hit the
reply button. So please reply directly to the advertiser and not to the whole
group in case your reply is personal.

2011-03-01 Thread gay_bombay

Hi.

I am sure you are enjoying reading the thought provoking, at times
funny, at times informative mails and also seeing the JPGs/pictures
that members post on this list

However, at times you may get a lot of mail and it may flood your
email box.

If you feel flustered and feel that there are too many emails, I'd
like to remind you that you don't have to leave just to stop us from
clogging your inbox.

You have the option of

1) getting your mails in digest form (however you will not be able
to see the pictures in this format)
Daily digest ... once or twice a day, you will receive an
email -- text only -- listing all new postings ... just click on the
messages link at the top of the digest to go to the web archive to
see any
attachments.)

2) or you can view mails directly on the web... and choose the
option ...
you can see what's new on the website and still keep a clear
mailbox. You will never receive mail from us if you do that. YOU
choose
when to visit us ... and you can check out what you like and can
skip over
what doesn't interest you.

3)no email option

I hope this helps. The commands for choosing the various modes are
listed below.

Warm Regards

2011-03-01 Thread gay_bombay

Hello

please reply to the concerned person directly in case you want to
reply to someone who has posted a personal email.

please CLICK ON THE PERSON'S EMAIL ADDRESS while replying to him .
this will enable you to send a mail to the person with whom you want
to communicate.

if you click on the reply button, the message will go the entire
group. it is unfair and many persons have complained that they do
not want personal correspondence in their box.

Individual personal replies to one another will NOT BE CARRIED on
this list until and unless it is relevant to the entire group

Tired of too many emails from this group?

Hi All

I know that this group has been generating too many emails. Many
subscribers are flustered at the number of mails. Some of you might
be thinking of leaving the group because you do not like your mail
box to be clogged with mails.

But just in case you do not know, you have the option of receiving
all your emails in a digest mode or you can opt for no email mode.

That way, you can see what's new on the website and still keep a
clear mailbox. You will never receive mail from us if you do that.
YOU choose when to visit us ... and you can check out what you like
and can skip over what doesn't interest you.

(Or choose Daily digest ... once or twice a day, you will receive
an email -- text only -- listing all new postings ... just click on
the messages link at the top of the digest to go to the web
archive to see any attachments.)

How ?

Depending on what you opt for, you can send mail to:

Digest Mode:- gay_bombay-dig...@yahoogroups.com

No Mail Mode:- gay_bombay-nom...@yahoogroups.com

g_b TV9: Great Andhra Report on Hyd Protest

2011-03-01 Thread Aditya Bondyopadhyay

Homosexuals Protest Against TV9 Channel
Published Date : 25-Feb-2011 22:00:00 GMT

Members of the homosexual, bisexual, and transgender community today staged
a peaceful demonstration in front of a local Telugu TV channel office here
seeking an apology for telecasting a 'sting operation' on homosexuals which,
they said, contained defamatory comments.

Taking a leaf out of the 'Gandhigiri' mode of protest in the film Lage Raho
Munnabhai, NGOs like Suraksha and Expressions placed some letters and
flowers outside the TV channel's office at Banajara Hills, a participant
said.

Over 60 members of the LGBT community and other people assembled before the
TV office this evening and held a peaceful protest seeking the TV channel's
apology over broadcast of the programme, the participant said. We also
handed over a representation to the staff of the channel against the
reportage.

According to the representation, the programme (a sting operation by the TV
channel) contained several defamatory comments targeting the homosexual
community and hunted down profiles of homosexual individuals from the
internet.

You aired not only their names and their photos, but also called them up in
a clear attempt at entrapment and prodded them with leading questions about
their private sexual lives, the letter said.

Your channel has severely jeopardised the security, constitutionally
protected liberties and freedoms, and fundamental rights to a life of
dignity of the LGBT community in India and this act violates the community's
right to live with dignity and feeds into a larger culture of homophobia,
the letter said.

The channel has caused irreparable injury and we demand an apology directed
towards the innocent citizens with whom phone conversations were aired, as
well as an apology towards the LGBT community at large. Further, we demand
an assurance from your channel that such an incident will never be
repeated, the letter added. (PTI)

g_b Make Your Gay Relationship Better

2011-03-01 Thread Deep

Romance is a very small part of what makes a long-term gay relationship
successful, it's getting the other 98 percent right that makes a gay
couple last in the long haul. It's too bad we don't have any
days devoted to issues like communication, fighting fairly, and
forgiving. Relationship change requires behavior change, and this is far
from easy. Fortunately there are certain, very specific things
you—yes, you—can do over the year that may change your
relationship for the better. Very often you'll find that your
partner quickly and enthusiastically reciprocates, and the entire
dynamic of your relationship changes. Focus on the following ten steps
and transform your good (or so-so or maybe even deeply troubled)
relationship into a great relationship.

Ask yourself: Would I rather be right…or would I rather be happy?

He doesn't microwave the food the right way, you leave your socks on
the bedroom floor, and he keeps squeezing the toothpaste tube in the
middle. And these little, everyday issues are just the tip of the
iceberg. Gay couples argue over almost everything. In order to have a
successful relationship, both partners need to accept that we all have
our different ways of doing things. What's more, you both need to
realize that accepting those differences is a key to a peaceful
relationship. No one wants to be micromanaged, especially in his own
home. If you just want to be right and prove your point on everything,
your relationship is likely to fail. The fact is that often, there
isn't a right or a wrong way, just different ways. Assuming that
yours is the right—and only—way is arrogant and disrespectful.
Think about the big picture. Does it really matter how chores are done
or is this really just about control?

Master the fine art of communication
It sounds so simple: he speaks, you listen; and vice versa. But it's
actually more complex than it sounds. Communication is at the root of
the problems faced by almost every gay couple I've ever seen.
Contrasting thinking styles and different personalities can all make
communication inside a relationship especially difficult. If you can
learn to communicate effectively with your partner, you are well on your
way to a successful and happy partnership and also a better night's
sleep for the both of you. The biggest mistake that gay couples make is
not realizing the need to create an environment that allows the partner
to talk freely about his thoughts and feelings. If your partner
doesn't reveal too much about himself, it may be that he is not very
skilled at doing that—or it may be that every time he tries to tell
you something he gets shot down. People simply won't talk if they
think they are going to get criticized in some way. Be respectful and
listen. You may not understand or agree but you should always respect
your partner's right to his viewpoint.

Learn to fight fair
You've probably heard that couples argue most about Sex and
Fidelity. But are these disputes really about sex and fidelity or are
they about something else? Emotional discussions by their very nature
are about more important underlying issues, like trust, control, or
jealousy. It's just that fidelity and sex are the currency of
control in many relationships; how you handle these conflicts will
determine whether the underlying problem is exacerbated or resolved. So
how do you fight fair? Well, there are some guidelines: calling
time-outs when things get too heated, never fighting in front of anyone
else, not dragging unnecessary skeletons out of the closet, and so
forth; but for the most part, fighting fair means trying to solve the
issue rather than trying to tally up who's better than who when it
comes to you and your partner. Try to abandon the usual strategy of
trying to win at all costs. Instead, work toward a productive resolution
that you can both accept.

Commit, already. (And no, it has nothing to do with a gay wedding band!)

Commitment is the glue that keeps a relationship together and yet most
people haven't a clue what the word Commitment really
means. They think in terms of gay marriage licenses or sexual fidelity,
but real commitment goes beyond what goes on behind closed doors and
wedding bands. The truth is, you can be totally faithful to your partner
but still not be committed to the relationship. Commitment really means
that you consider the other person in all matters—you consider how
any action you might take affects your partner and the relationship.
This does not mean that you will always make personal decisions
secondary to your relationship, it does mean, however, that you make
every effort to consider the impact of your actions and treat the
relationship and your partner with fairness, respect, and without harm.
Various studies have shown commitment to be a predictor of long-term
marital happiness and stability.

Be trustworthy
In a solid relationship, you need to be able to make the assumption that
your other half is telling you what you need to know and
