g_b File - E mail problems?
Hi Have you stopped getting emails from this group suddenly? It is highly unlikely that your name has been deleted from the list. We do not delete anybodys membership until and unless the person repeatedly spams or sends pornographic/crude emails you might not be getting your mails is because your email is on the bouncing list. Some members have trouble with bouncing e-mails: Messages that are sent out by the group cannot be delivered to their mailboxes and are sent back to Yahoo. This can happen for various reasons, for example, when their mailboxes are full, or their e-mail addresses have become obsolete, etc. Yahoo doesn't tolerate bouncing mails and will deactivate these persons' memberships. It will, however, send you a reactivation request. All you have to do is reply to that (once you've fixed the problem with your mailbox), and Yahoo will resume sending you the messages. We will also send out these requests daily. Bounced Messages If you subscribe to a Yahoo Groups discussion group under one of the e-mail options (normal or digest), Yahoo Groups will suspend sending mail to you after repeated attempts bounce back. To see your recent bounced messages, view your Yahoo Groups preferences at http://groups.yahoo.com/myprefs and click Bounce history for your e-mail address. For more information on bounced-message handling by Yahoo Groups, search Yahoo Groups help for the word bounce. Why does it say my account is bouncing? If group messages sent to your email address are returned to Yahoo! Groups as undeliverable (bouncing), your Yahoo! Groups account may be temporarily disabled. Messages can be returned for several reasons: Your mailbox may be full -- try deleting messages from your Inbox. Your ISP may have a backlog of email to process -- contact your ISP. Your ISP may be blocking email from Yahoo! Groups -- contact your ISP. In many cases, Yahoo! Groups can automatically reactivate your account once the delivery problem is solved. However, in some cases you will need to manually reactivate your account: 1. Visit your My Groups page. 2. Look for a bounce alert near the top of the page. 3. Click the Alert link to reactivate your account. Hi All 2 personal advertisements seeking mates a month are allowed on the list. Its unfair to others if you post your advertisement every few days. In the past, many have complained that they see too many personal advertisements on the list. So a restriction of 2 personal advertisements per month has been imposed. You may, if you wish, place your advertisement in the classified section at www.gaybombay.info as well. In case you want to reply to a members personal advertisement, kindly click on the persons email address. This will ensure that your reply goes to the concerned person and not to entire list which is what happens when you hit the reply button. g_b Gay marriage could wreck independence
Gay marriage could wreck independence, claims ex-SNP leader Published on Thursday 1 December 2011 08:58 CONTROVERSIAL plans to introduce gay marriage in Scotland could cost the SNP government victory in the forthcoming independence referendum, a former leader of the party has warned. Gordon Wilson led the speakers at a rally organised by the newly formed Scotland for Marriage organisation which has emerged to oppose the plans. The Scottish Government has launched a consultation exercise on the issue, but First Minister Alex Salmond has said he supports the move. The rally outside the Scottish Parliament yesterday brought together representatives from the Catholic Church, Church of Scotland and Muslim community. Mr Wilson, leader of the SNP between 1979 and 1990, warned the issue could jeopardise the support of huge strands of religious groups with an independence referendum down the line. He said: “All they are doing is alienating people and you don’t want to alienate people on the eve of an election – an important referendum where every vote will count.” The issue has already caused a row in SNP ranks after backbencher John Mason lodged an amendment stating that no organisation should be forced to take part in gay marriage. Asked if it could cost the party the referendum, Mr Wilson said: “That’s my judgment. “I came through the hard days when every vote had to be fought for. The SNP did very well in the last election, but the referendum is more important than any one election and it’s nearer. An SNP spokeswoman said there are “a range of views” within all parties on the issue. “The SNP committed in our manifesto to launch a consultation on equal marriage and we would encourage anyone with a view to take part in that consultation.” Scotland For Marriage supports the current legal definition of marriage and is resistant to plans to redefine it to include same-sex couples. Cardinal Keith O’Brien, Scotland’s senior Catholic clergyman, again set out its vociferous opposition to the proposals as he addressed the crowd of about 200 campaigners. “If the Scottish Government attempt to demolish a universally recognised human right, they will have forfeited the trust which the nation, including people of all faiths and none, have passed in them and their tolerance will shame Scotland in the eyes of the world,” he said. Ann Allen, former convener of the Church of Scotland’s board of social responsibility, said: “There are all sorts of consequences that are going to result if the Scottish Government proceed down this route. “I cannot see one positive consequence for the young people of Scotland or for the parents and grandparents in Scotland. “It’s certainly not a route that I want to see our society travelling down.” The Church of Scotland has not adopted an official position on the government consultation, but says individual ministers can voice their own opinion. Bashir Maan, the former Glasgow councillor and Muslim community leader, who attended the rally said: “I’m concerned about this, and so is the Muslim community, because I think it could be the beginning of the destruction of society as we know it.” “If there’s no family, what about society? These politicians should look forward and have some foresight – what will become of the family without the union of a man and woman?” He said the issue could damage the popularity of the SNP government. “I think people will be looking at their political loyalties after this,” he added. He denied the current situation discriminates against gay people. “They have the right to civil partnership; marriage is something different. Marriage has always been, right from the dawn of history, between a man and a woman.” Currently, same-sex couples can enter a civil partnership which carries full legal rights but the ceremony cannot be conducted in a church or other religious premises. Tom French, policy coordinator for The Equality Network, said: “The vast majority of people in Scotland support same-sex marriage. For most people this is a simple issue of love and equality. “If a same-sex couple love each other and want to get married, then why should they be banned from doing so? “With all the problems currently facing the world, people will struggle to understand why organisations like the Catholic Church are wasting so much money and energy on this homophobic campaign.”

g_b Kirk joins fight against homosexual marriages
Kirk joins fight against homosexual marriages By Tom Peterkin and Craig Brown Published on Friday 2 December 2011 05:30 ALEX Salmond’s plans to allow gay marriages in Scotland were dealt a fresh blow last night when they were condemned by the Church of Scotland in a statement that said the move could harm the “wellbeing” of families, communities and individuals. The Church of Scotland said it could not agree with a change in the law to allow same-sex weddings, arguing that it would fundamentally alter the understanding of marriage in Scotland as the union of one man with one woman. After much internal turmoil over how it should deal with homosexuality, the Kirk finally articulated its official stance on gay weddings last night when it published its response to the Scottish Government’s consultation on the issue. The uncompromising position of the church, which has an estimated 500,000 members, is a setback for the SNP government, which has signalled its intention to move with the times and legalise homosexual weddings. The statement was also highly critical of the Scottish Government’s handling of the issue, saying that the views of ordinary people had been excluded. “The Church of Scotland is concerned about the speed with which the Scottish Government is proceeding on this issue, and believes that the debate has so far been patchy, undeveloped and exclusive of both ordinary people and the religious community,” the church said. “The government states that the purpose of this proposal to redefine marriage is to accommodate the wishes of some same-sex couples. The Church believes that much more measured consideration is required before the understanding of marriage, which is entrenched and valued within the culture of Scotland, both secular and religious, is surrendered to accommodate this wish.” In the past, Mr Salmond has said he is personally in favour of gay marriage. The Scottish Government launched its “The Registration of Civil Partnerships, Same Sex Marriage” consultation in September. The Catholic Church and evangelical denominations have been fervent critics of the proposed legislation, but Scotland’s largest Presbyterian church has been keeping its powder dry until now. The Church of Scotland emphasised that it believed that homophobia was sinful and that it was its duty to minister to all, “regardless of sexual orientation and practice”. But the statement, titled Church of Scotland Speaks Out – No to Same Sex Marriage, also outlined the difficulties with the plans, pointing out that the teachings of the Bible promoted heterosexual marriage. “The government’s proposal fundamentally changes marriage as it is understood in our country and our culture – that it is a relationship between one man and one woman,” it said. “Scriptural references to marriage, whether literal or metaphorical, all operate under this understanding.” It added: “To redefine marriage to include same-sex marriage may have significant and, as yet, inadequately considered repercussions for our country, for the wellbeing of families, communities and individuals.” The Kirk said that it would not agree to same-sex marriages being celebrated in church, but acknowledged that other religious groups may feel differently. The statement was met last night with disappointment within the SNP. Pete Wishart, the SNP MP for Perth and North Perthshire, said: “This is a disappointing response from the Kirk. I had really hoped that they would fall into line with the views of the majority of people in Scotland.” Mr Wishart, who had declared that Scottish Government ministers would bring forward the legislation at the recent SNP conference, added: “Churches have nothing to fear from the proposed legislation on same-sex marriage. This is extending marriage to more couples and nothing should stand in the way of couples who want to express their commitment to each other in this manner.” Alyn Smith, the openly gay SNP MEP, said the church was entitled to its view. But in his own response to the consultation submitted yesterday, Mr Smith said: “No religious institution has a monopoly right on the definition of marriage. Nor indeed a right to seek to impose that view on the rest of society, composed of all faiths and none. “There are a number of views on this issue and it is for us, as a society and as a nation, to come to a consensus on what marriage is. For me, marriage is a bond of love and commitment between two people. Their gender or sexuality simply do not enter into it.” Although mainstream SNP opinion is behind homosexual marriages, there have been dissenting voices – most notably the former leader Gordon Wilson, who earlier this week addressed a pro-marriage rally and claimed that the issue could cost the Nationalists votes in the independence referendum. John Mason, the Glasgow Shettleston MSP, and Bill Walker, the Dunfermline MSP, have said they

g_b Why It's So Important to Know the Difference Between Self-Help and Personal Growth
Why It's So Important to Know the Difference Between Self-Help and Personal Growth December 2, 2011 at 6:00 AM To many of us the terms self-help and personal growth are interchangeable. But while they may give the external appearance of having twin meanings, in the external perception they are more akin to those tiny figures that we would see perched on the shoulders of a character on television. If you can, visualize the angel on one shoulder and the devil on the other and you'll get my meaning. One is a near obsession with fixing some innate flaws, either real or imagined, which are a blemish on our existence. We just know that if we could fix ourselves, life would be pure bliss. Or would it? The other is based on the belief that we are fine the way we are, though not perfect, we are good enough already. But that we are a work in progress and there is a desire to expand in some way, through gaining knowledge, through improving our skill or through cultivating healthier or more positive behaviors. Though I may be splitting hairs over textbook definitions, the true difference is in how the perception of the journey affects both our attitude and our actions. We resist change when we feel bad about ourselves; condemned, criticized and judged (usually we are the ones offering up our own judgment.) We embrace change when it elicits happy feelings of fulfillment and accomplishment. A few examples to illustrate my theory. Weight/Health issue Self-Help Perspective: I can't fit into my jeans. I need to lose 20.30.50 pounds, then I'll be happier. What is wrong with me? I've tried so many diets. I just need to exercise more. Ugh Personal Growth Perspective: I want to be healthy and have more energy to allow me to live the life I love. This is the only body I have and I choose to nurture it by making healthier food choices and moving to keep my heart and muscles strong and fit. Organization issue Self-Help Perspective: I have got to get it together. My house (car, office) is always a mess. I can't find anything. I never seem to get anything done. I just need to find the right system. Or maybe I could hire someone to come in and clean it all up. Personal Growth Perspective: I set my priorities. I won't accumulate things I don't need. I'll ask for help from someone who can offer effective strategies on how to better manage my life, my home or my work. I acknowledge that external disorganization is a symptom of lack of internal focus. I need to be clear about what I want. Money issue Self-Help Perspective: I need a better get out of debt plan. But the book said if I just followed the guidelines, I could be a millionaire.I need a job that pays more money. Personal Growth Perspective: I work toward my debt and savings goals consistently. I understand that it can be a slow process. I treat money with respect and gratitude. I am grateful to have a job. I invest in myself and my career by improving my marketable skills. You get the idea. Though this may be an exaggeration to illustrate a point, I think the difference in perception and attitude is readily apparent. And while the actions taken may actually be the same, the results will differ greatly, because the intention is different. We instinctively push back against the idea that we are lacking and should fix ourselves. We are drawn to the idea that we are wonderful and getting better all the time. Which way of thinking sounds more enticing to you? Which strategy do you think has better long term results? Which perception do you think contributes more to your happiness in life? _ Royale Scuderi is a writer, life and business coach who empowers individuals and businesses to achieve higher productivity, growth, business success and work - life balance.
