Re: [Geeqie-devel] File rename function - possible data loss
Colin Clark ccl...@mcb.net [Fri, 21 Jan 2011 12:26:00 +] Hi If multiple files are selected for renaming and the manual rename option is used, it is possible to input the same destination filename for more than one file. If the operation is executed, files will be overwritten with no warning. I just got bitten by this bug, i.e. I forgot to enter the # sign and all files were deleted except the last one. (For once I was thankful that USB sticks use such an arcane filesystem, so I could undelete. ;-) Granted, it's not really a bug but an operator error, but it's dangerous anyway, because with longer filenames you don't see the preview column. Also, Geeqie doesn't remember the rename dialog window size, which would be better in this case. (Btw, Colin included a patch with his original post.) Anyway, just wanted to inform once more of this issue. -- All of the data generated in your IT infrastructure is seriously valuable. Why? It contains a definitive record of application performance, security threats, fraudulent activity, and more. Splunk takes this data and makes sense of it. IT sense. And common sense. http://p.sf.net/sfu/splunk-d2d-c2 ___ Geeqie-devel mailing list Geeqie-devel@lists.sourceforge.net https://lists.sourceforge.net/lists/listinfo/geeqie-devel

I'm using Geeqie 1.0 on Debian, just updated. When trying to manipulate files for which I have group write permissions but not user write permissions, the operation fails (such as move or delete). When testing for permissions the operating system looks at user/group/world in that order. If you are the owner of the file and do not have write permission, then the operating system does not consider the group or world write permissions.
