 Joel, you have worked with ALPHA and Parsec. May be you can shed more light
 on what might be happening.

It sounds like a kernel panic... the kernel should be printing out an
error message, I expect.

 I think you have made changes to cache_impl.hh because line 1466 is not an
 assert() statement. Even if your changes run fine with SPEC 2006, that is no
 proof that they would work with other applications as well. Unless more
 light is shed on the changes made, it would be difficult for me to help you
 out.
