Hi guys,
I'm new to the list.
I've been using Gentoo Headless boxes about 3 years now.
I've started reading Gentoo High Performance Computing.

I was thinking of setting up a master and 2 slaves to test a cluster.

I run 2 2u servers on my home network hosting several domains and their
email.

I was looking at this howto guide...
http://www.gentoo.org/doc/en/hpc-howto.xml

I'm looking to expand in the future with hosting. I started out with web
design and went from there to running my own networks and servers.

Is this the type of cluster I would need to like load balance 1000's of
sites with apache/php/mysql?

If I'm not on the right track, please give me any info and links to
reference.

Thanks,
~RD

Hi!

I also think that you would be better off with LVS, and there of I'm
really interested in how your setup turns out. Have you already thought
about cluster file systems? there are few and I'm planning on tests with
Lustre. Would you mind posting your progress to the list so i could spy
your plans?

 Good morning,

I think you mean a load balancing cluster with LVS or some other tools.
Here are some links that might help you.

 http://perlstalker.amigo.net/Gentoo/LVS.phtml
 http://linuxreviews.org/howtos/virtual_linux_cluster_howto/

There is also some good documentation on the LVS homepage

 http://www.linuxvirtualserver.org/

There are some user-space tools, too, but in my experience LVS is the
fastest one. Other tools are crossroads or balanceNG.

 Have a nive day,
Thomas Roehl

Thanks Thomas,
