[gentoo-user] advice for a desktop search package?
Hi, I'd like to know, in your humble or less humble opinion, what's a good desktop search package for Gentoo. Preferibly I'd like KDE integration. I am aware of the following: - Beagle - Strigi - Kat Are there others? What are pros/cons of these packages? Sorry for the flamebait :), m. -- [EMAIL PROTECTED] mailing list

Hello b.n., I'd like to know, in your humble or less humble opinion, what's a good desktop search package for Gentoo. Preferibly I'd like KDE integration. I am aware of the following: - Beagle - Strigi - Kat Kat is defunct. Beagle has a KDE front end, Kerry, but I found it a real resource hog (Beagle, not Kerry) although using an encrypted home directory doesn't help there. There is also recoll, in portage, I tried it on my laptop but there wasn't enough space on my home dir for the index :( -- Neil Bothwick Brain fried -- core dumped. signature.asc Description: PGP signature

[gentoo-user] [OT] Intel D975X or NVidia 680i for stable, fast Linux box?
I'm looking into upgrading to Intel Core 2 Duo (or Quad) family - perhaps the E6600 Conroe. I'm trying to figure out which motherboard/chipset would suit my needs best. I'm planning to install Gentoo Linux on the system, and I need it to be, first and foremost, stable and reliable - mainly to be used for number crunching (e. g., Mathematica), simulations, etc... No gaming. I'm between getting an Intel board with the D975X chipset and a board with the NVidia 680i chipset. Which of these chipsets is more favored in the Linux community and which might do better with number crunching applications? -- [EMAIL PROTECTED] mailing list
[gentoo-user] cdrtools incomplete?
I'm trying to burn a CD for the first time in a long while. It's not going well. I've got cdrtools-2.01.01-alpha10 installed. I guess it's stable in spite , in spite of the name, since I don't run ~x86. The description says it includes cdrecord, but I cannot find it. Moreover, K3B fails because it can't start cdrecord either. What did I screw up this time? ++ kevin -- Kevin O'Gorman -- [EMAIL PROTECTED] mailing list
