[gentoo-user] Bugzilla-2.22.3 not sending any mails...

2007-11-25 Thread Jules Colding
Hi,

I've emerged bugzilla-2.22.3(*) on a hardened box(**). The problem is
that while bugzilla can send password reminder mails it doesn't send any
other mails. Changing a bug or adding a new one does not result in a
mail to the default assignee.

Any ideas?

Thanks,
  jules

[gentoo-user] AMD64 LiveCD 2007.0 problem

2007-11-25 Thread David Relson
This morning I decided that it's finally time up update Gentoo to match
the new mobo CPU installed several months ago.

First 2 attempts to boot from the LiveCD complained of an X
configuration error. This didn't seem quite right as the video is
simply the ASUS M2A-VM HDMI's on mobo video. However I did want a
command line and got it, so things were more or less OK.

The less OK part is that I wanted to use the following partition map:
  /dev/hda1 31 MB/boot
  /dev/hda6 9.7 GB /
  /dev/hda8 153 GB /home
What I got was (if memory serves)
  /dev/sda1 /mnt/LiveCD
  /dev/hda6 /mnt/cdrom
as /mnt/cdrom was Read-Only, this precluded installing there. So, I
rebooted several more times with the following result:

NMI Watchdog detected LOCKUP on CPU 0
  CPU 0
  Modules linked in: siimage r8169 snd_hda_intel ...
  ... swapper Not tainted 2.6.19-gentoo-r5 #1
  ...
  Code: 7e f9 eb f2 c3 fa f0 ff 0f 79 09 f3 90 83 3f 00 7e f9 eb f2
0 Kernel panic - not syncing:L Aiee, killing interrupt handler

I've gotten this same NMI error the last 4 times I've booted -- even
using a second copy of the 2007.0 LiveCD that I happened to have.

Any suggestions of what to do?

Thanks.

David

Given that you have stated that you want a command line, dump the
LiveCD. Use the Minimal Install CD or, better still, SystemRescueCD -
which includes many tools which can make life easier during installation
or maintenance. :)

Be lucky,

Neil

Good suggestion! As mentioned my goal is upgrading Gentoo as I've
replaced my Athlon XP mobo with an AMD64 x2 mobo. Is the
SystemRescueCD usable for this?

Thanks.

[gentoo-user] Audacious Madness???

2007-11-25 Thread Jerry McBride

Anyone here noticed how badly Audacious 1.4.2 is? I get random crashes and a
host of other problems... something never experienced with XMMS.

I traded a few emails over Audacious and it seems as though it sports a new
(improved) thread model. Once I humbly suggested the new model has some
warts... the email trade stopped.

How do you report problems to the authors, if they won't listen?

I'm currently using XMMS-1.2.11. It works perfectly... even streams from
gnump3d without errors.

Anyone know why this goes on?

[gentoo-user] motherboard/chipset drivers

2007-11-25 Thread sprizes
I am trying to compile a custom, static, minimal, kernel ( please
accept this for the sake of this email; dont flame me with how it is
no longer necessary due to the modular nature of the kernel ) for my
gentoo install. I am working with the 5000psl intel server board with
the 5000p chipset
(http://www.intel.com/products/chipsets/5000p/index.htm). I have the
following questions:

1) Where can I find the linux kernel HCL ( hardware compatilbility list )?
2) When I run make menuconfig, where do I go to choose the chipset I am using?

I'd appreciate the help.

Here are a number of them (hardware compatability is usually not
distribution specific):
http://kmuto.jp/debian/hcl/
http://en.opensuse.org/Hardware
You can find more here: http://www.linux-drivers.org/index.html

 2) When I run make menuconfig, where do I go to choose the chipset I am
 using?

There usually is no such option. Setting CPU and accompanying features
should
be enough (in Processor type and features ---, Power management options
(ACPI, APM) ---,
and Bus options (PCI, PCMCIA, EISA, MCA, ISA) --- )
For other chips or components attached to your motherboard, look at the
output of lspci,
and make sure that you compile kernel support for what is listed there
(sata/ide driver, ethernet
card, etc.). Also build in your desired filesystem.

 I'd appreciate the help.

[gentoo-user] How to tell Cron X is running or not

2007-11-25 Thread reader
Scripts that test for X running might work in a shell but not when the
script is run by cron.

For example: This code:
  tty|grep pts
  retval=$?
  if [[ $retval 0 ]];then
print X isn't running just now... postponing rsync of WWW
until such time as it is... exiting
exit
  fi

Runs fine when run from a user shell, but when cron runs it the test
always fails to be true.

So how can I test for X running in case where script will be run by cron?

How about something like this: retval=`ps aux | grep tty | grep X | awk
'{print $2}'`

Or retval=`cat /tmp/.X0-lock`

Or even better:

if [[ -e /tmp/.X0-lock ]];then
...

Yup, both of those should work from cron or anywhere. In my case and
probably many other as well, I could shorten the ps approach to:
ps aux|grep '[X] :0'

But looking for /tmp/.X0-lock is probably the most reliable. Thanks

Try xdpyinfo. If $DISPLAY is not set, try xdpyinfo -display :0.0 for
the usual main display. ssh -X -Y makes up its own names, but you
haev to figure out whether cron programs should even know about the
display in general, or the ssh ones in particular.

At any rate, try this:

if xdpyinfo /dev/null; then echo X running; else echo No X; fi

  You don't mount audio CDs.

 But can't you mount them?

There is no need to do so. However, a fuse based filesystem for mounting
audio CDs exists, see http://castet.matthieu.free.fr/cddfs/.

Every Live-CD/DVD with a 64bit-Kernel, chroot and bzip2 is suitable for
a Gentoo installation.
