[gentoo-user] AMD licenses Arm technologies

2012-06-14 Thread James

Well, it's official.
AMD is to build a variety of ARM based systems.
TI, AMD and others are to work on the MALI
video core, in an open source venue.

It also appears that Intel is not alone in embedding a
processor within a processor under the guise of
enhanced security:

No matter how you slice it, it looks as if the ARM processor
will become front and center within gentoo? (???)

11.2.202.235 crashes all the time anyway (at least on x86_64), there's
a new version 11.2.202.236 out since yesterday or so that works again.

Hi again!

I don't have pulseaudio and my device doesn't appear as a separate device.

What I really can't get is why arecord -L shows me info about speakers
when it's supposed
to show only capture devices.

Also, could someone please give me an example of arecord
usage to capture from a (non-default) device named 2,0 in vlc.
(I *did* read the man page but it's still a bit unclear)

Thanks for your help,
Ezequiel.

[gentoo-user] Nvidia-drivers + kernel 3.4

2012-06-14 Thread Philip Webb
I haven't seen any mention of the problem here,
but after installing Kernel 3.4 , Nvidia-drivers 295.49 wouldn't compile.
The solution (via Google + Launchpad bugzilla) is to copy 4 header files
from /usr/src/linux/arch/arm/include/asm to -/-/-/-/x86/include/asm :
 system.h compiler.h system_info.h system_misc.h .

Also the Ethernet kernel config lines have changed a bit
I had to ask explicitly for my mobo's version with 'r8169'.
