Distributed binaries on Linux being pinned to old library versions has always been an issue. There was a period of time roughly 1.5yr ago where people were claiming Valve/Steam/developers had learned better (I attribute this instead to Ubuntu starting to maintain more recent libraries) but it seems like everything is broken again. It looks like the errors you posted are exactly this issue, and this is the one way to fix it forever. In my case I wouldn't trust Steam on my main system anyway and would have to run it in a VM. It even more strengthens my impression than I should first
play with reconfiguring the kernel.
I will do it a bit later, when the summer heat becames more tolerable. :)

Please tame your tongue. The correct package would have been qtx11extras. But it is already in the dependencies when you build kwindowsystem with USE="X". Post the output of emerge -pv kwindowsystem And also have a look into /etc/portage/package.provided if it contains qtx11extras. Of course it could be that there is some issue with how Gentoo sets up the build for kwindowsystem. Whilst I use KDE, I haven't been brave enough to go full unstable on my system - I try to avoid ~amd64. So my KDE install is stable. And if seems your problems are ~-related, as shown by your mentioned version of kwindowsystem (5.48), unlike mine @ 5.46 (and equery concurs). So my advice to you would be to settle back on stable (it's really not that far behind) if you would prefer a working system over fighting issues like this. Some people enjoy the process of figuring this stuff out. Some want a working system. Whilst I am a little of both, I'm leaning more towards the latter as I get older and have fewer fucks to give, and it sounds like you're getting there too. -d
