[gentoo-user] How to enable core dumps?

2005-08-18 Thread Antonio Souto

Hi

Does any one knows how to enable core dumps?
It seems like they are disabled by default.

I have already tried putting

*

in /etc/security/limits.conf

and still no core dumps from my code's features... ;-)

[gentoo-user] Alsa daemon won't start

2005-07-28 Thread Antonio Souto

My alsa (which used to work ok) refuses to start with the message:

I tried reemerging alsa-utils alsa-lib and alsa-headers but the problem persists...

I don't know when it began because it is unusual for me to restart my computer.
I have never edited any config file since using alasmixer was sufficient to make my sound card work fine.
It seems to me some upgrade has broken something.

I was playing around with this, and it seems to be working fine for me. Areyou using two different versions of sed? Any major differences between thetwo systems? Identical scripts?

[ebuild N ] sys-apps/sed-4.1.4 -bootstrap -build -debug +nls -static 0 kB

So as for sed version:

# sed --version

GNU sed version 4.1.4

The big differences are hardware kernel:

Working SED:

Both machines have Toll-Chains up2date...

In any event, all the sed statement does is colourize the help output, so ifyou just want the script to work you can change this line (line 94):
cat END | help_fmtto:cat ENDand it should work just fine for you. (I think ;))
Probably, but my worries are about SED. If it starts failing my world
will not make sense any more :/ (neither my scripts, that

Maybe because I would not know where to begin (One can write sed

[gentoo-user] sed changing behavior

I am having a strange problem: every time I try to run the script
tcupdate
(http://gentooexperimental.org/archive/tcupdate/tcupdate-0.2.2.0)
I get the error:

sed: -e _expression_ #1, char 127: unterminated `s' command

It works ok at my lab, but not on my PC at home!

I have already reemerged sed, and even done an emerge world -e,

with no results.

Sorry to bother, but it is odd and I can't figure out what is wrong.
The script used to work and stopped working.
Apparently sed changed it's behavior.
