Because i followed the recommendation of 'texmf-update' mentioned in http://bugs.gentoo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=262177? Did you perhaps have tetex installed prior? If so then automatically because of a dependency. At the moment tetex is not installed. Tetex has recently been marked for removal and all users are encouraged to upgrade to texlive.
