Hi, Thank you, now the situation is better :) Unfortunately the VIX api installation failed. I have the VIX file, downloaded before, but it seems nobody cares about this file. After I installed vmware-server, the /opt/vmware/server/bin/vmware-config.pl failed to install vix api. Anyway, I do not know, what is it. Other thing, vmware-server-console unable to connect to the server on localhost. Unfortunately the web gui has no console, but a stupid message to install the plugin. I got sick about vmware I guess, this is my fault I have to use this to get my usb scanner working under windows running from real partition. RE: [gentoo-user] VMWare on Gentoo?
IMHO, VMWare is well worth the selling price. This is one of the most useful, robust, solid, and transparent products I've ever used. Granted, I use it on an XP host with Gentoo in a VM, but I am just blown away every time I think about what it's doing and enabling me to do. The fact that they're giving away the player and server now free is even more astonishing. I strongly urge you to buy your copy and support that company. All it really needs is /etc/rc.[0-6] directories and a symlink. Try the ebuild or just do what I did: cd /etc mkdir rc.d for i in $(seq 0 6); do echo mkdir rc${i}.d; done ln -sf ../init.d After that you should be able to run the installer. The installer will place a file named vmware in /etc/init.d/. I just run that file before I want to start VMWare. All the startup script does is bring up the virtual network that vmware uses.
