I use one called aria [in portage] which works just fine for me, more features than most would need for day to day uses. axel for command line - it multithreads your download and allows you to resume downloads, I use this instead of wget for emerge. Its much quicker. aria for gui - havent really tried any others but this does the trick and works nicely.
