This is just too wierd! I've done all the maintainance steps everyone has suggested, probably several times by now, but kmail still refuses to send email. The good news is Thunderbird is working. Being a creature of habit, I want to get kmail working. Last night I did: # emerge -eD kdepim thinking that this would bring all dependancies in the correct order and I would wake up able to use kmail. No such luck. The only change I've seen so far is kmail has gone back to crashing when deleting failed emails from the outbox. Below is the backtrace from the KDE crash handeler, followed by the Konsole output. For what you're doing you don't need the MTA or MDAs. I just installed KDE 3.4 on one of my Gentoo systems and all I did was goto the accounts setup and point it at bellsouth mailserver, enter the username,etc. and it worked. KDE allows you to set up several accounts as you know and handles them very well. Maybe to got Settings-configure kmail and set up a new test account that only goes to Bellsouth. Receiving email works properly. Try deleting and setting up smtp server. Check what server supports is your friend. -jm I've tried that in the past and tried again. No joy. The fact that sasl wasn't on your system would dictate that kdepim was built without it's support. So check (and change if need be) the settings in KmailTB to use your ISP mail-server. Currenly you must be using the local postfix server to process the mail and as it's not configured it breaks. Kmail is broken after cleaning out old kde versions (3.1-3.4) starting it from a terminal shows the following when I attempt to send an email. () I've remerged postfix, kdelibs, kdepim pam and anything else remotely related to errors I have found. I've done revdep-rebuild. I've tried emerge eD system and I've removed kdepim and merged kmail by itself. I'm lost Logs don't seem to show anything useful and frankly I'm stumped. It seems to be a problem with smtp I haven't changed any kmail settings and I merged thunderbird and it seems to have the same problems. What else can I try here? My frustration level is such that I'm about to start throwing something.
