Hello Tim,

I have done a lot of scanning but never seen this effect before. It looks like
a limitation of the scanner. Have you thought of using a camera on a tripod to
make copies of the original photos? You are scanning at 600dpi, but a decent
camera should be able to exceed that easily if the originals are no larger than
a postcard (150mm x 100mm). Just make sure the photos are evenly illuminated
and set the camera colour balance accordingly.

Start by checking to see if the scanner driver has an option to
compensate for different paper types. It looks as if the sensor is
reflecting off the paper.

I haven't experienced this, but i probably have a different scanner.

Re: [Gimp-user] scan-mirrage-effect-Problem with postcard

2021-05-10 Thread Rick Strong

Well, it's not moiré from the glass.

It seems to be a scanning artefact introduced by the scanner. But you say it
doesn't happen with scans of images on plain or matte paper.
try putting a black card over the postcard before you lower the lid. Also
check your scanner settings.

If that doesn't work, you could try photographing the glossy postcard with a
camera. With some fridge magnets you could stick it vertically to the side
of something metallic in good light, like your refrigerator or your car.
Then crop out or clone out the magnets from the photograph.

Hi folks,

i'm trying to digitalis a postcard composed out of 4 different photos
(without access to the original). To get the highest resolution possible
i bought me a scanner, but while working grate on normal paper, its got
problems with that glossy postcard-paper i would like to remove
digitally. I scanned the postcard once horizontally and once vertically
in 600 dpi photo mode (see both layers). I rotated one layer and
positioned it roughly, but i am not in search for a complex ai based
filter that removes distortions by combining both scans in a complicated
way, the two layers is just to state my issue.

My question is, is there any filter i can use to remove this
rainbow-like lines in one of the layers and if so, how could i
accomplish this things with gimp.

Ill try to attach the file (ca. 40.8 MB xcf file) here, if this dosnt
work you can download it here:
