[Goanet-News] CONTROVERSY: A response from Fr. Cedric Prakash to CM of Goa Manohar Parrikar and his ilk
A response from Fr. Cedric Prakash to CM of Goa Manohar Parrikar and his ilk Fr. Cedric Prakash sj* Ever since my visit to Goa about three weeks ago, I have been receiving plenty of feedback on the several talks I gave there. Most are very appreciative but as expected, there are quite a few critical voices mainly from those Catholics and others who seem to subscribe to the BJP point of view. At the outset, I want to make it very clear that I hold no brief for any political party. I do not even tell anyone whom I will ultimately vote for. Most political parties (at least the mainline ones) make tall promises particularly before the elections and never keep them. Most are corrupt: some get exposed while others have institutionalized corruption (like in Gujarat) in such a way that corruption becomes legitimised. Over the years, most elected representatives have increased their bank balances/assets to mind-boggling amounts! As citizens, we surely need to deal with corruption, casteism, the criminalization of politics and much more. We should demand greater honesty and accountability from all our elected representatives -- and at all times. At the top of my concerns however, is communalism and the way it is rearing its ugly head and poisonous fangs all over the country. One needs to objectively study the fountain-head of communalism in India: the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) and perhaps read the 'Bunch of Thoughts' of MS Golwalkar or for that matter what VV Savarkar or KB Hedgewar stood for. They very strongly propagated an ideology called 'Hindutva' in which the whole concept of India’s nationhood is defined from the narrow perspective of a ‘Hindu-nation’ State. Above all, it propagated the dominance of the upper caste Hindus and in their scheme of things, the minorities like Muslims and Christians are meant to be treated as second-class citizens. The fact that the BJP is the political outfit of the RSS is no secret. The fact that it was the RSS that named Narendra Modi as the Prime Ministerial candidate of the BJP (inspite of much opposition from the rank and file of the BJP) is out in the open. The fact that the RSS has to decide on every single crisis where the BJP is concerned speaks volumes for the fact that both the RSS and the BJP are just one. Above all, the Sangh Parivar (as the RSS, the BJP and their other affiliates are known) has over the years demonstrated that they do not subscribe to the Constitution of India, to the national anthem and to the secular fabric of the country -- all this has been consistently and authentically documented. The BJP chose to release their election manifesto only on April 7 (the day elections began in the country) and it continued with emphasising on its core activities: the building of the Ram Mandir, the abolition of Article 370 and the establishing of a Uniform Civil Code. This clearly shows that they care two hoots about the Constitution of India, the Supreme Court and are not at all sensitive to issues of the minority communities. Let us then address some of the points which seem to have rankled the BJP in Goa: FREEDOM OF RELIGION LAW 2003: Late last evening, the Chief Minister of Goa Manohar Parrikar seems to have lambasted me at a public meeting (as reported in sections of the media) on several accounts and very particularly on misinforming people about the 'Freedom of Religion Law of Gujarat'! Facts and documented evidence speak for themselves. Without doubt, the so-called 'Freedom of Religion' law of Gujarat the single most draconian piece of legislation in the history of any democracy or civilized nation in the world. It is against Article 25 of the Constitution and violates Article 18 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. Mr. Parrikar is intelligent enough to know that I am not speaking about any anti-conversion laws. These in the past have been brought in both by Congress and BJP States. I am speaking of the Freedom of Religion Law of 2003 of the Gujarat Government which necessitates that any person (adult) wanting to change his or her religion must first seek the permission of the District Collector. This is clearly not about whether I have the right to convert you; but it is about, if I am a Hindu Dalit, do I have the right to embrace Buddhism freely -- if I feel that Buddhism will help me become a better person? The irony of this law is that the Collector will first have to see if there is any force, or a fraud or an allurement (which is material gratification or otherwise). So if the Collector feels that you becoming a better person is allurement, he or she can deny you the permission! As recently as February
[Goanet] MR CM, HOW IS THE DRUG TRADE STILL FLOURSHING?
In his usual cheap jibes Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar has been taunting Ravi Naik on the drugs issue. If the government has any evidence of Ravi Naik or his family's involvement with the drug cartel they should prosecute them in accordance with law. There isn't even an F.I.R registered against Ravi Naik or his family members, despite the fact that this Government has been in office since March 2012. All that we have is a Legislative House committee report authored by a 7th Std passed Micky Pacheco who himself is soaked in crime and perhaps trying to settle scores with Ravi Naik. It is pertinent to note that two BJP MLAs Michael Lobo and Vishnu Wagh who were members of that House committee in their dissenting report stated that there was no evidence of Ravi Naik's involvement in the drug trade. As Ravi Naik has been out of power for the last over two years, Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar needs to now explain as to how the drug trade in Goa is still flourishing. That too, in the BJP strongholds. Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar had promised Zero tolerance to Corruption but over the last two years we have seen it rampant all over. Corruption cases are pending in the Courts against the Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar himself and Speaker Rajendra Arlekar besides many of his Ministers. Infact the Court ordered registering of an F.I.R under Section 420 against Tourism Minister Dilip Parulekar. While the BJP manifesto promises to scrap FDI in retail, can the CM explain how the foreign mafia is operating in Goa, in the northern coastal belt? Whose protection? Whose blessings, Mr. Parrikar? The BJP alike elsewhere in the country has been spending crores of rupees in the current Lok Sabha elections. If not from corruption, what is the source from where all this money is flowing? Over to you Mr. Chief Minister. Aires Rodrigues T1 - B30, Ribandar Retreat Ribandar - Goa - 403006 Mobile: 9822684372
Re: [Goanet] SHRIPAD NAIK DOES NOT DESERVE ANOTHER VOTE
JAI HO!! On Tuesday, 8 April 2014 11:34 PM, Aires Rodrigues airesrodrigu...@gmail.com wrote: At the last three Lok Sabha elections I voted for my friend Shripad Naik who also lives in the neighborhood of Ribandar. This time there are many reasons why every sensible voter should ensure a resounding defeat of Shripad Naik. It is not just because the BJP candidate Shripad Naik is a hardcore RSS pracharak but because he epitomizes Narendra Modi, the cult which will take our secular nation and democratic values down the tube. Despite being a Member of Parliament for 15 long years and a Union Minister for some years Shripad Naik has no phenomenal achievement to his credit. Despite his lackluster performance he is now desperately pleading for one last term. There is no doubt he is soft spoken and affable but Shripad Naik has lacked the spine to speak out against the wrong policies and vicious ideology of the BJP. He has even stayed mute as a mouse to all the humiliation and sidelining he has faced over the years at the hands of Manohar Parrikar. On the Bhau-Bhai feud no more needs to be said. The one achievement to the credit of Shripad Naik is that he was successfully able to appoint his son last year to the plumb post of Aval karkun and will now soon be a Mamlatdar. Being a son of an MP or MLA is no disqualification for getting a government post, but the selection needs to be strictly on merit and not based on nepotism. While the AAP candidate Dr Dattaram Dessai is saffron, less said the better on Goa Democratic Front's Dayanand Narvekar who has suddenly woken up from his political exile. It is no secret that both are propped up by the BJP in an attempt to eat up and divide the anti- BJP votes. There is no doubt the CPI candidate Adv. Suhas Naik is outstanding, but since this is a battle to defeat the dictatorial Narendra Modi by voting for Suhas Naik in the current scenario will only indirectly help the communal BJP. So to keep the nation secular and the democratic values intact, in North Goa there is no alternative but to vote for the Congress candidate Ravi Naik and in the South Reginaldo Lourenco is the way to go to thrash at the polls the other hardcore RSS pracharak Narendra Sawaikar. [Goanet] MATANHY'S SOUL MAY NOT SPARE ALINA AND MANOHAR PARRIKAR
The late Matanhy Saldanha must be rolling in his grave that his wife Alina has dumped his legacy now being obsessed with that chair and the red beacon. Hats off to Dr. Marconi Correia for living Matanhy's dream. Alina Saldanha seems to be a very confused person. She is not taking a clear stand on Mopa though we all know very well that her late husband Matanhy Saldanha was strongly opposed to Mopa. Alina Saldanha and Manohar Parrikar had vowed and promised to stand by everything that the late Matanhy stood for. But sadly they have gone back on their word by allowing Mopa to proceed, Casinos to flourish and the concretization of Goa by way of Mega projects to carry on unhindered. Alina some time ago wrongly stated that the BJP government had passed a bill demanding Special status for Goa. What has been passed is only a mere resolution and many such have been passed in the past. They do not have even the value of toilet paper as there is lack of political will to take stringent measures to control the unabated migration into Goa. If Manohar Parrikar is serious and committed to stop alienation of our scarce land and Goa's rapidly changing demography, he can do it within the current framework. There is absolutely no need to await that utopia of 'Special status' which may never be a reality. And by then sorrowing will lay our land. Alina Saldanha should not to be a caged parrot but has to dare speak out on vital issues even at the cost of losing her chair. That chair will one day anyway be gone, but she may find it difficult to live with the betrayal to her husband's legacy and for the issues he stood and fought till his very last. [Goanet] Kadamba Dynasty
12th century Kadamba Jayakesi I, Velliapura site in present day Velim, South Goa . There is lot of information translated by Kannada language experts from ancient stone inscriptions on Velliapura of which they themselves don’t know the whereabouts of this place, as this place being under Portuguese for 451 years is almost foreign to them. Very little information about Velliapura is written by world renowned Historian George M. Moraes in Kadamba Kula, the history of Ancient and Medieval Karnataka as he never came across the 'coterie'. This place is very well known to small number of members of the Coterie who come across the ghats to Velliapura Jayakesi site present day Velim every year as pilgrim and link Roque Santana ancestors as the descendant of Hangal section of this ancient family so as a search for this link as to why this pilgrims who come to pay homage to this ancient place call themselves as 'Pilgrims'? and If this site belongs to Jayakesi of Goa, why the family living in it is linked to the descendants of Hangal?. As gathered from the available resource that the Kadamba sovereigns were hailed as 'Kadambarasa' meaning supreme or Gods or Godly or sovereign therefore the members of this coterie call themselves as pilgrims. The inscription stones in kannada found at Velim site tell that descendant of Jayakesi of Goa, Suriya-Deva'1345CE slain-ed sovereign of Chandrapura ' his wife 'Vinomaih-devi' was the daughter of 'Kadambarasa of Hangal', Purandara-Deva, died and was cremated in Velliapura by her nephew Jayesha, grandson of Purandara of Hangal. According to Haliyal stone inscription this same Jayesha founded a small timber business in Haliyal, over the centuries family owned and operated this business which was only source of income for them and their workers by hereditary who call themselves as coterie, was confiscated by the British Governor George Harris in 1840's and most of this pilgrims are the descendants of those workers . According to their resource after the 1345 massacre the surviving Queen 'Vinomaih devi' moved away from the furious Mohammedans in Chandrapura present day Chandor and was taken into hiding in this royal compound by the foothills of Velliapura by the kingdoms blacksmiths, her father and brother joined her sometime thereafter. After their death the descendants were converted to Nazrani Christianity for fear of Muslims from there on they are in possession and actually still lives here on this historical site. therefore they hold that the family living in Velliapura site are the descendants of Purandarai of Hangal. Jayakesi I son of Shashtha-Deva was a very powerful ruler, 12 century copper carvings tell us that princes and lords from neighbouring kingdoms traveled in to Chandrapur present day Chandor to pay homage to Jayakesi who was the Sovereign of Konkan. Velliapura viragal tell that Jayakesi I himself in a battle with his rival to retain this place Velliapura won a decisive victory, which was his southern capital, three horses stables and few officials residences were destroyed in the battle according to the Kannada version the days following the victory the wives of the commanding officers or soldiers celebrated in the royal compound by lighting and floating ‘ponti’ in the royal pond ‘Toloai’ in front of the capital building. According to Portuguese record of 1922, a complaint was filed with the Portuguese ‘Regdor’ by the ancestors of Roque Santana following the excavation of that toloai. The Coterie has always objects to the family members contesting direct elections in present day Democratic setup saying it is of the people, by the people and for the people and this family is not, In1962 they objected to Roque Santan contesting the first ever election in Goa, earlier they hailed his 'Satyagraha' to bring Democracy to the people of Goa. I first visited 12th century Kadamba Jayakesi I, Velliapura, site in Sept of 2006, the compound gates were secured when I inquired with the neighbours they directed me to a man who was looking after the house, he had given me the email address of Roque Santana as (roquesan...@legislator.com). I had written to Mr.Roque Santana seeking an appointment at this site in Velim to which he replied to me that at that time he was in NY and he will get back to me when he returns to Velim, It was very sad to read the news from the news papers of his sudden untimely demise. A year later I wrote to his daughter Maria Suhashini in London she gave me the London based house address of Venkatesha Upadhiaya who was member of the Coterie he never replied to me, I wrote to one of his sons in USA but no reply. People in Velim had told me that the Portuguese installed road side direction stone leading to the site went missing or destroyed in late 60’s and were never replaced by the Archaeological survey of India. It is important that the family or well wishers

Hi Edward, Salus and others Thank you for your posting and translaton sent to me via goanet and privately. The 1970s must have been very romantic as per your translation. My knowledge of our language comes mainly through listening to our music and attending tiatrs from a young age be it Nairobi, Panjim, Woodgreen and Croydon, UK and is not exactly 100 per cent. My version is what I thought it meant and our cockatiel Donna has heard me playing the tune so often with the words at 45 rpm, she has now learnt to say by heart poixe ghott dhortam which sums up the make up of our people today. If you agree, poixe ghott dhorta appears to be the same mental attitude of our people as much today as it was when this song was first written, nothing really seems to have changed. Our musicians and entertainers have kept us going over the years only to be short changed by people who copy their items and resell at lower rates reducing their opportunities of earning an income to progress making new films, entering new creative ventures and even create employment. My other heros are the sons and daughters of the soil in Goa and around the world who till the land to produce our daily bread found in the market and delivered to your doorstep and the roadside in all weathers. Here again you will find haggling instead of just paying for the perishable goods essential for daily living which causes prices to rise and fall. Only last year I heard that one had to pay a few rupees for four carrots and now you have to pay the same number of rupees for two carrots (not the carots in gold brought out for an airing at kazar and festa dis). [Goanet] GSRP Press Release
Press Release: Goa Su-Raj Party releases its new theme song sound track CD at Piedade Hall, Panjim at its press conference today on 9th April, 2014 at 11.30 a.m. The Party General Secretary, Floriano Lobo, while welcoming the press and others, and after introducing the GSRP team involved in conceptualizing and finalizing this unique sound track on MP3 http://free.mp3songurls.com/1364282.mp3 as well as the video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aspzK-AQpyYfeature=youtu.be , went on to explain that the effort put in by Ms. Faith Barretto [GSRP's in charge of women and Child development cell] and Singer of repute Reagan D'Souza, member, was phenomenal and beyond expectations. One has to see the video above and listen to the sound track to appreciate it he said. He said that in time to come, this already going viral sound track will change as to how Goans look at Goa. Accepting the bouquet of flowers from the number two of GSRP, Ms. Faith Barretto said that it was her pleasure to have been working with the GSRP team, especially Savio Rodrigues and Reagan D'Souza which has brought out the best in her. She also touched on her intension of organizing a 'Youth Concert' in the immediate future so that all of Goa's dynamic youths can be identified, leadership qualities acknowledged and work to restore Goa as Goa that once was may begin to end up in taking GOA in 2017. Reagan, too, couldn't wait to tell the audience how much he was 'raring to go' for Goa, especially having found confidence with the all accommodating and understanding, yet strict as hell leadership of GSRP. The functions concluded with Savio Rodrigues, GSRP's South Goa Candidate for the Lok Sabha Elections talking about his successful campaign, specially at Monte Dongor [Moti Dongor] where he said he was optimistic that approximately more than 37 percent of the votes will be for GSRP. He also touched upon the brand of 'Secularism' that the Congress Candidate in the South was brandishing. He said that where the Goa BJP was lubricating the path of Ram Sene into Goa, Congress was doing likewise with the Popular Front of India, both organizations being fanatical and totally communal organizations. The press were presented with the CDs of the Sound Track by Ms. Faith Barretto while Vice President (North) , Mr. Matias Vaz proposed the 'vote of thanks'. for Goa Su-Raj Party- GSRP Sd/- Floriano Lobo Gen. How many of us have visited Gujerat and seen what Modi has done for the state ? how many has been to the bank and seen secular ministers' bank accounts and properties ? People sit at the chai shop or bar and talk. Our tongue can wag like dog's tail and there is no limit. How many of our priests have accounts in foreign lands and explain how they can manage to buy foreign ticket every year or as who is sponsering them ? let both ministers, mlas , and religious be honest to give us idea.

Re: [Goanet] MR CM, HOW IS THE DRUG TRADE STILL FLOURSHING?
General comment: I hope the content and central ideas of these posts are being relayed in Konknni. I would think there are many people who would benefit if they heard the same in Konknni. Perhaps keeping them ignorant at critical times is what the Devnagari script, dual language in guise issue is also all about. + + + Venantius J Pinto On 4/8/14, Aires Rodrigues airesrodrigu...@gmail.com wrote: In his usual cheap jibes Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar has been taunting Ravi Naik on the drugs issue. Frankly speaking, Ana Maria, I will sum up your query in just one sentence with no offence intended to anyone. Re: [Goanet] Fwd: Re: Incubator For Political Crooks?
I just noticed these unbiased responses from Roland on Goanet. Looks like he has different levels or standards of corruption and crookedness in his unbiased mind. Illegal profiteering from massive fraud and forgery does not reach the threshold if it happens during the Portuguese rule. The same for theft of Rs. 35 lakhs from the taxpayer's money. But how about torture and murder in police custody, and falsification of the autopsy report by the government? What do you think? Would it measure up? I for one would really like to know what his unbiased threshold for corruption and crookedness is in the Portuguese system. It also appears that names of Portuguese public officials are special. They get sullied if reported by the press in connection with allegations of public corruption. Perhaps, sanctification and worship of the Portuguese administrators does not amount to being pro-Portuguese. Re: [Goanet] MATANHY'S SOUL MAY NOT SPARE ALINA AND MANOHAR PARRIKAR
Aires sent me the SMS on this topic this morning. I have replied to him thus: Matanhy wasted his 'Icon of Goa' standing when he joined the RSS BJP and wasted himself in the bargain with poison and 21 gun salute. Cheers floriano goasuraj 9890470896 - Original Message - From: Aires Rodrigues airesrodrigu...@gmail.com To: goanet goa...@goanet.org Sent: Wednesday, April 09, 2014 3:41 PM Subject: [Goanet] MATANHY'S SOUL MAY NOT SPARE ALINA AND MANOHAR PARRIKAR The late Matanhy Saldanha must be rolling in his grave that his wife Alina has dumped his legacy now being obsessed with that chair and the red beacon. [Goanet] CONTROVERSY: A response from Fr.
