There is an easier way reduce your time in purgatory.
Pope Francis has assured all that following him on Twitter will do the trick.

 Dear Nelson,

 Can we agree to disagree,
brother, but as you can see, it is an established
fact by the word of God, and biblical truth,
that prayers for the dead and
 purgatory is
 non-scriptural as well as non-biblical.

This is an ancient ritual which due to the
emotions of the people, had been
 inducted
into our roman catholic church somewhere in 340 AD.

Jesus himself if u search the
scriptures clearly speaks about a heaven and a
hell. Never speaks about any purgatory. To

 call Jesus blood

 How long do the
souls continue to languish in purgatory?
 For
many more years do we have to offer masses or the souls of
 our dear
ones and others in purgatory ? Do
we believe that they will languish
indefinitely in this state? We believe that
many souls go to purgatory, but
 much more
enjoy the presence of God. Few faithful offer perpetual
 masses at
 different congregations,
especially, those that are skeptic about being
forgotten by their progeny and those that have
 no immediate family to
 remember them. The
Church by traditions accepts masses for the souls of the
dead on the day of burial, seven days, month ,
 year, second and third year,
 After that
period there is no preference offered by the church in
 accepting
 such prayers, and the second
intentions no remuneration is accepted By the
way at all daily masses and after very decade
 of Rosary, the dead are
 regularly
remembered, Besides on all souls day in particular the souls
 in
purgatory are being remembered and prayed
for Is it correct position that
 when we
offer masses in specific names ? n some Churches names of
 dead
souls are not announced at all before
 the beginning of Eucharistic
 celebrations.
Is not b advisable that the sacrifice of the mass is
 offered
to the souls in purgatory in
general? If every time when we participate in
the Holy Eucharist can we not offer for such
 intention? The rosary and
 other structured
and spontaneous prayers, sacrifices et can be not be
offered for such intentions? Can we not offer
 regular charity to the needy
 and deserving
with the same intentions? Do the souls in purgatory
 appear
and request for hundred of masses for
 their deliverance? The mass stipend
 as we
understand is only for the maintenance of the priest and no
 value can
 be attached to it
I wish some can explain the length of time
after the death the masses are
 to be offered
in general .Is it guilt and fear of retribution that
 makes
relatives resort to this practice out
of guilt complex ? Many are of the
 firm
belief that unless we pay the stipend it is not valid
 sacrifice .There
 are instances, when these
paid mass offerings are not said for many years
for one reason or other Can we not have faith
in the merciful Lord to be
 just and fair. In
applying all the prayers to cleanse the souls in
purgatory How the doubts of duration in
 purgatory and the quantum of
 prayers will be
just enough not to be guilty of not

Here is a very important secular issue on women's choice raised by
Melinda Gates in the Times of India interview:

QUOTE
The Indian government is now putting out postcards on IUDs and
training people on how to insert those in young women. Over time I'd
like to see the Indian government offer injectibles or even implants.
Injection is a better option if you want to wait 6-9 months, but IUD
is better if you want to wait for 5 years. The idea is to let women
decide what works for them.

Most right-wing religious organizations are opposed to these

[Goanet] Dr. Jack de Sequeira model of Goan politics.

2015-04-23 Thread Ujwala S Sawant
Also known as ‘United Goans Party’, Dr. Jack de Sequeira’smodel of Goan
politics was rejected right from day one in Goa basically  because it drew a
line of divide between theCatholic and Hindus in Goa. Most historian areof the
consensus opinion  that  his face tilted the balance and gave power inthe hands
of wrong people at the very first election in Goa. It was realized by the party
leadershipthemselves who always looked for a way out of this stalemate till in
1979 they dissolvedthe United Goans Party, some joined the Congress (I) and
some went to Janataparty. The only issue that kept UGP alive for a while was
the opinion poll.

At the height of ignorance the place and people which/whogave him glory and
name from no where to first Chief Minister of Goa he himselfturned around and
propagated the merger of Goa into Maharashtra. That is why historians call this
what happens when wrong people get in power. Itis so confusing to clear the
minds of young students who question us teacherstoday that the person who
wanted to wipe the name of Goa from the map by merger, this very person’s
statue is erectedin front of the temple of Goan Democracy, thelegislative
Assembly. what are we Goans doing? As along as we tolerate suchthings,
corruption  due to wrong peoplein power will continue to rule Goa, nothingelse.

The act of Dr. Sequeira opposing the merger of Goa in to Maharashtra was just a
reflex act, he being the leader ofthe opposition, what else he could have done,
to opposed was the only way out. Thanks to the curiosity of Mrs. Indira Gandhi
who was very much confused whenMr. Bandodkar mobilized Maharashtra legislature
and MPs to fuel the merger ofGoa, it is at this stage Mrs.Gandhi called for
opinion poll to give power toGoan to decide the future of Goa.  Lot
ofhistorians have attempted to investigate if any request was first  put by Dr.
Sequiera  demanding opinion poll in Goa.There was no such demand from UGP at
all, recorded in history, it was onlyMrs.Gandhi idea of referendum in Goa
released by Mr.P.Kakodkar a local Congressleader, this move was taken
halfheartedly and feared by UGP was in minority.Winning opinion poll was
victory for Goans, hindus and catholics but nothingfor both Dr.Jack de Sequeira
who remained as he was a dividing face andMr.Bandodkar never got to fulfill his
dream to merge Goa into Maharashtra.

So if this is the story we Goans have to ask the questionsas to who were this
people namely Dr. Jack de Sequeira and Mr. DayanandBandodkar? Where did they
come from? What was their mind setup? And who still madethem hero’s of Goa.

All Goans needed was a member of ‘Velliapura Royal family’to bring in Democracy
for his people in Goa after liberation, non other butfreedom fighter Roque
Santan of Velim who resorted to Satyagraha for Democracyin Goa. So a general
election was announced inGoa, Soon after the declaration of election in Goawe
see the names of Dr. Jack de Sequeira and Mr. Dayanand Bandodkar both rich
Industrialistswith no pre liberation background jumped on Goan political scene.
It is at thistime we read the names of both  this richGoans, Dr. Jack de
Sequeira and Mr. Dayanand Bandodkar took part in theopportunity to contest
formed political parties namely UGP and MGP and afterelection, one formed the
Government and other sat in the opposition. Looks likethere was a opportunity
for grab, a lottery for one.

At the time of liberation of Goaboth Dr. Jack de Sequeira and Mr. Dayanand
Bandodkar were of over middle age,so what were they doing when thousands of
Goans were involved in the liberationstruggle. We Goans have to ask this
questions as to where were Dr. Jack deSequeira and Mr. Dayanand Bandodkar
during the 50-60 year long Goan liberationstruggle with the Portuguese military
forces. No where during the freedommovement, their names not even remotely
mentioned in pre liberation history.  With all seniors leaders dead or in old
age theonly freedom fighters name which figures out loud amongst opinion poll
names ofMLA’s is that of Roque Santan of Velim who was involved in the
pre-liberationstruggle with the Portuguese forces and who went on Satyagraha
demandingDemocracy in Goa. And for this he is humbly know as “ father of Goan
Democracy”.

As long as we the educated ones at the University don’tratify Goan history and
put things in order as to who is who ‘promote memoriesof man of sacrifice’ or
else corruption will be the order of the day in Goa andordinary Goan will
continue to suffer at the hands of wrong people in power intheir own rich State
of India.

[Goanet] Goan-origin Lopes in fray for Swindon's council election

2015-04-23 Thread Gabe Menezes
PANJIM: Antonio Lopes, a Goan from Goa-Velha is a candidate for the local
council elections in Swindon, UK, for the Liberal Democratic Party. He has
been living in England for the last 25 years, the last 10 years of which
have been in Swindon with his family.
Goans are regarded as the biggest community in Central Swindon and Antonio
believes the time has come that Goans have a representative to voicing the
concerns in the council.
Antonio believes that there are many ways the Council of Swindon can help
the Goan community grow even more as there are many resources available
through the council which can benefit the community. He says that his
ultimate goal is to be able to do something better for the growth and
prosperity of Goans in Swindon.
Last year, Imtiyaz Shaikh, another Goan from Vasco contested for Liberal
Democrates, but lost narrowly by a margin of 5 per cent vote.
Antonio has asked the support of all Goans by casting their votes for him
on May 7. Imtiyaz Antonio have already through the council obtained
grants to teach English to Goans who missed the opportunity in Goa. They
believe this will help them in their day-to-day life. Another grant has
already been sanctioned for senior citizens. Our goal is to make them come
out of their houses and meet one another, thereby gaining confidence.
Imtiyaz is organizing a Goan talent hunt contest called, Goan Super Star,
on May 12, in Swindon, supported by Antonio Lopes. The proceeds of this
will go to The Great Western Hospital charity. The aim of this show is to
bring our youngsters together and groom them for the bigger stage in

[Goanet] SMILE.................................................................. IT'S WEEKEND (23/04/2015)

2015-04-23 Thread CAJETAN DE
FOR THE……..

AleixJoao and his wife (Paulin) were in theirdeep sleep. There was a knock on
their door. AleixJoao rolls over and looks at the clock:-

AleixJoao: (Murmurs) It’s half-past two in the morning. I am not gettingout of
bed at this time (rolls over).

Then, a louder knock follows:

Paulin: Aren’t you going to answer that?

AleixJoao drags himself out of bed and goes downstairs. He opens the doorand
there was a drunk man Stranger, standing at the door:

Stranger: (Slurs) Hi there. Can you give me a push?

AleixJoao: What? Do you know what time it is? Go get lost. (slams the door).

AleixJoao goes back up to his bed and tells Paulin what happened:

Paulin: AleixJoao, that wasn’t nice of you. Remember that night we broke down in
the pouringrain on the way to pick the kids up from the baby-sitter and you had
toknock on that man’s door to get us started again? What would havehappened if
he had told us to get lost?

AleixJoao: But this guy is drunk.

Paulin: Itdoesn’t matter, He needs our help, and as a true Christian we have to
helphim.

So, AleixJoaoagain goes to downstairs, opens the door and not being able to see
thedrunk man:

AleixJoao: (Shouts) Hey, do you still want a push?

Stranger: (From far) Yeah please.

AleixJoao, still being unable to see the Stranger, so he shouts back:

AleixJoao: Where are you?

Stranger: I am over here on the swing!!!

AleixJoao goes to the Strangerand saw the Drunk Man is seating on the swing and
waiting for the PUSH.

Dear Valmiki,

You did well.

Dotor Bab Fransicso, like you, is gentleman.

Both of you are South Goan aristocrats. Get a room and f**k each other.

But seriously if battle lines are drawn I will go with Valmiki. Despite
being a friend of the Colacos.

Sorry Dotor, not as you are thinking. Valmiki has always been a gentleman
in his dealings. Even now. I respect that.

Ask Radharao to intervene. You Bamons!

Relax.

Cheers!

Cecil

I have much respect for Dr. Francisco Colaco.
On the three points in his post below, I say:

1. I have no issues with opinions, including of 'historians'.
Nowhere have I claimed, or labour under the impression, that
I am a historian. Or that the book is a 'magnum opus'! I wish
Dr. Colaco had to spell out its multiple short-comings,
which I would have accepted in all humility.

2. The allegation of my bringing into the open the private and
intimate lives of inhabitants of Largo da Igreja and their
revered ancestors is not illustrated with a single instance.
How can I comment? If I have erred, I will no hesitation to
apologize and make amends.

3. I have dealt only with facts. If what I believed to be true
was indeed not, it could be pointed out. The comments on my
aunts and father are patently false, to the knowledge of
the local community.

Best, v

I am a great admirer of Valmiki Faleiro and had lavished a lot of praise on
Valmiki as a brilliant writer and master of the pen. I stand by what I
said. But after perusing his book ?Soaring Spirit? minutely this is what I
have to say:-

1. The historians whom I met on that day and thereafter admit it is no
historical book at all. A magnus opus that makes sweeping statements about
contentious subjects should contain well-known references and a
readily-accessible bibliography. That the book was written in three months
cannot be advanced as an excuse for its multiple short-comings

2. Valmiki?s book, instead of being a historical book, reads like a
book of khani?. He has indeed stooped to abysmal depths by selectively
bringing into the open the private and intimate lives of inhabitants of
Largo da Igreja and their revered ancestors. He seems totally confused when
he brings into play the new settlers like Massurkars and Barretos in good
light, while directing his ire, a fruit of his fertile imagination, against
those against whom his family had a grudge, notwithstanding the fact that
the Cola?os in particular, to cite one example, contributed so much
towards the welfare of Holy Spirit Church and the Comunidades unlike his
family.

3. Valmiki would have sounded more congruent if, while washing other
people?s dirty linen, he had brought under scrutiny his own. It is abysmal
to learn that he talks of his half-mad ?gossip-monger? aunts as
?encyclopedias? who gave him the inputs for his book. Further, he fails to
mention about his own father who was a manic-schizophrenic and had to be
tied when he ran amuck and went into a state of murderous frenzy. Yet, he
seems bent on soiling other people?s good name which is tantamount to
defamation.

As a member of the ancestral Cola?o family, I have two advices for Valmiki.
First, ?let a book about ?history? be a ?historical book?. Second, ?those
who have glass houses should not throw stones?
