Re: [gt-user] who maintains the Globus Toolkit documentation?

2012-10-19 Thread Pete Eby
Has the idea of placing the documentation on a wiki where it could be
updated by community members been discussed? Perhaps by users with a
Globus Online login?

Sounds good. As Vas says, we're looking to make some changes/improvements to
the Toolkit web pages. That may be a longer term effort. But, maybe there are
some simple, near term changes that can be made to get this going. We'll
discuss internally here and let you know our plans.

Thanks for the input!

I had a lot of troubles too.

Some of them I solved just by trying (a lot), other I ask for help for
some researchers (experts) who already installed.
So, I have some tricks and details that is necessary and is not
mentioned in doc.

Surely, I will help.

Hi Stu,

I don't know how feasible this is, but I have found the best way to get
accurate documentation is to hand your final draft to an average expected
audience member, and then look over their shoulder while they go through it,
taking notes on what trips them up. It really brings to light the omissions and
incorrect steps, and makes for a much better final product. I just went through
a similar process instructing student workers on how to use PuTTY to port
forward into their private virtual CentOS machines, and how to log in and
perform some basic CLI steps.
