[h-cost] Anyone know what manuscript this is?

2014-05-27 Thread Wicked Frau
There is a black and white illustration on page
142http://tinyurl.com/mcpage142*
of Medieval Costume in England and France by Mary G. Houston. *It is
supposed to have come from a manuscript in the British Museum. The number
is D. IX. Does anyone know if this is enough information to identify the
manuscript? My searches are not getting anywhere.

Thanks,

I don't know if you've already found this information, but my guess is that the
image is actually from the British Library manuscript collection and that it is
part of the Royal Collection. If so, it should have a numeral before the D.
IX. The website seems to indicate that the manuscripts number from 1. A. I -
20. E. X, Appendix 1 - 89. They are catalogued in: G. F. Warner J. P.
Gilson, Catalogue of Western Manuscripts in the Old Royal and King's
Collections (London, 1921), 4 vols., with index in vol. 3 and plates in vol. 4.

I checked online and this image doesn't appear as part of the digitized
collections. Only two D. IX turned up and they didn't have this image.

I hope this helps.

Ginni

Probably British Library MS Cotton Nero D.IX: The The Romance of Jehan de
Saintre, France, ca. 1470.

Whether the seams are actually as Houston draws them, I reserve judgment.

[h-cost] JP Ryan Pet-en-l'air/Francaise pattern

2014-05-27 Thread Aylwen Gardiner-Garden
Has anyone here used the JP Ryan Pet-en-l'air/Francaise pattern? I've come
to a halt and only have a few days to get it finished.
I'm about to cut out the skirt extension and am adding length to it. If I
match the length of the side that is sewn to the back skirt piece then the
angled side piece that is sewn to the front piece is too long. Should I
simply be extending the length of the extension and then chopping off the
extra bit, or should I be measuring the width across the bottom of this
piece and making the new longer piece the same width at the bottom and
re-drawing the angled side seam line?

Cheers,
Aylwen
