haifux has a ring to it that kinda makes it obvious what it's about. it's also become known over the years in the technion CS faculty. i think it's a better idea to keep it On Wed, Apr 7, 2010 at 22:05, Michael Vasiliev mycr...@yandex.ru wrote: On 07/04/2010 19:20, Shachar Raindel wrote: But why are you throwing a bucket of water on Shlomi's bon-fire? Considering that many lectures and mailing list topics are not Linux-specific, might it be wise to take Shlomi Fish's example and rename to Haifos - Haifa Open Source? Well, before renaming Haifux to Haifos or HaiFOSS or HaiFree (because you may discuss open/free content too) or whatever, I should note that I'm not absolutely sure renaming the Tel Aviv club to TelFOSS was a good idea. Some drawbacks to note is that there are still the logistics of the name change, and the fact that it fragments the existing referrals (in web searches, on correspondence, etc.) and that focusing on Linux is more concrete and less presumptious than The Haifa Open Source Club. Re: [Haifux] Haifos?
Dotan shalom, Officially we are the haifa linux club, but at the same time, as you've noted we are very much about FOSS as well. I prefer to leave the name haifux which is a sort of a trademark, even if we are actually more than just a Linux club. The reason is that people inside the Israeli FOSS/Linux community know what haifux is, while people outside do not, and these people may be confused by the emergence of haifos. Consider this as a QWERTY reminder of the history of haifux.
