Re: [Haifux] X terminal
Hello Thanks for all the people who send me suggestions. I will try to summarize: 1.. http://mobaxterm.mobatek.net/en/, do not need installation. Just download the executable run it. Seems very nice. (This is also the program that the computer center at the Technion recommends.) 2.. http://www.straightrunning.com/XmingNotes/, how do you download it without registration? You can download an older version from http://sourceforge.net/projects/xming/. 3.. Xvnc 4.. run X server over cygwin 5.. http://freenx.berlios.de/, (FreeNX), I am not sure that they have a version for windows. Right now I am going to test mobaXterm. If I will find anything interesting I will report it to the list. Re: [Haifux] X terminal
Just a few notes about NX - its a remote desktop software for Linux. They have a client for mostly all platforms (including Windows of course) and server software that consists of free and non-free part. freenx project aims to replace that non-free part. There is also an alternative to freenx - neatx project sponsored by Google. NX is very network efficient - one can have 5 full KDE desktops with 1680x1050 resolution on 1500/500 kbit line. NX also supports mounting remote desktop media locally and redirecting remote sound to local (client) computer. Printer exposure is also supported 2010/8/10 Shahar Dag d...@cs.technion.ac.il: Hello Thanks for all the people who send me suggestions. Re: [Haifux] X terminal
Xming is a good choice. You could use FreeNX as well, as it is very network-efficient, and persistent, which X is not. Re: [Haifux] X terminal
It's not like I really have something to do with this, since I run the Cygwin full desktop for quite a few years, but I did manage to download some Xming version from the SourceForge site. Does it help? http://sourceforge.net/projects/xming/ Eli boazg wrote: the donor password thing is new. a bit of a WTF. while i haven't used this in years, it's not something i expected to appear On Wed, Aug 4, 2010 at 16:56, Dave Roi david...@gmail.com mailto:david...@gmail.com wrote: Am I the only one that spent 20 minutes and 7 links trying to find the download button and gave up? Re: [Haifux] X terminal
A possible solution is to run Xvnc on the linux machine, and any VNC client on the Windows XP machine. Alternative solution is to run cygwin's X server, but it is rather slow (and VNC is much more network efficient). --Shachar 2010/8/4 Shahar Dag d...@cs.technion.ac.il: Hello I am looking for a free X-terminal software that will run on an Win-XP station and will allow me an easy access to RedHad Ubuntu Linux machines. Probably yes, as the Downloads link is in the top of the page at the center.
