[HCDX] Glenn Hauser logs November 25-26, 2016

2016-11-25 Thread Glenn Hauser via Hard-Core-DX
Sorry, every message should have a subject. Otherwise all the below is
identical, so you may delete the previous one. Good night

** ANGOLA. 4949.7, November 26 at 0053, JBA carrier, so RNA is back after
missing a few nights. Thorsten Hallmann says it was also missing a few German
evenings, but audible again by 1800 November 25. Bruce in New York using a
remote in RSA was hearing the frequency November 25 at 1849. Then Bill Bingham
in RSA definitely had it from 2050 to 2130 (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING
DIGEST)

** ANGUILLA. 1610 kHz, November 26 at 0147, PMS is weak but not distorted,
unlike // 6090 which along with day frequency 11775 is always distorted now. //
5935 a slight reverb apart from WWCR is not distorted either, so that narrows
it down to a problem with The Valley SW transmitter. 1610 has some Spanish CCI,
presumably CHHA Toronto (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** CANADA. 680, November 26 at 0205 UT, quick weather break with temps plus and
minus 3, i.e. Celsius, i.e. Canada, i.e. CJOB Winnipeg. 50/50 kW U4 night
pattern supposedly goes only NNE (and day pattern only has a little tail to the
south). Before and after this I was getting 50/46 kW U1 CBW much stronger, q.v.
(Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** CANADA. 990, November 26 at 0153 UT, CBW Manitoba with `As It Happens` I
really should listen to more, kicker story about an ad in Britain being banned
because it called for messing with bean cans whose sharp edges might cut kids.
(Meanwhile I hear co-city station CJOB 680, q.v.). After the news, at 0210-0216
UT, `The Current Review` has a very interesting interview with a linguist who
was advisor to an Amy Adams movie about aliens, deciphering their language.
That would be ``Arrival`` I`ve yet to view (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING
DIGEST)

** CANADA. 2598-USB, November 26 at 0054, S6 robot YL with marine weather in
English, mentions Newfoundland Standard Time. It`s MCTS Placentia, VCP via St
Lawrence, Nfld. site starting at 0048 (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENIN DIGEST)

** CHINA. 11820, November 26 at 0056, S5 signal with song in Chinese, off at
0057*. HFCC shows it`s CRI, 500 kW, 200 degrees from Xi`an in Yue = Cantonese
(Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** ERITREA. 7175, November 25 at 1412, JBA S6 signal with HoA music, no doubt
long-path VOBME moved again from 7180, 7185.

7146.600, November 25 at 1413, music at S7, no doubt the other VOBME around
slightly variable off-frequency, long path. See also ETHIOPIA (Glenn Hauser,
OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST) Hargeisa by now is off 7120

** ETHIOPIA [and non]. 7236.03, November 25 at 1415, carrier here at same time
I am getting the Eritreans lower, so presumably EBC External service, R.
Ethiopia, scheduled this hour in Arabic; frequency drifting upwards as I try to
measure it. An equally weak signal on 7235.0 in the way: CRI Chinese via
Kashgar or IBB Korean via Tinian (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** MADAGASCAR [and non]. 7445, November 25 at 1926, I`m scanning 7 MHz band
whether anything is propagating yet, less than one hour after local mean noon:
only this JBA signal, which is BBCWS in English, 250 kW, 315 degrees from
Talata also USward at 1600-2000.

7445, November 26 at 0045, S4 from algo, now scheduled as BBC in Dari via
Woofferton (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** MEXICO. 810, Nov 26 at 0202 tune-by, ``Radio Rey, Reynosa, Tamaulipas,`` ID
in passing in the mix as I happen to be aiming N/S. That`s XERI, 1000/100 watts
per IRCA, not bad! (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** MEXICO. 6184.99, Nov 25 at 1927, JBA carrier is the only thing on 49m less
than an hour after local mean noon, suspected XEPPM Radio Educación active in
the daytime, not enough to detect modulation if there be any. Same offset when
checked November 26 at 0048 with some undermodulated music (Glenn Hauser, OK,
DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** NORTH AMERICA. Where have all the pirates gone? It`s been weeks since I`ve
logged one on the 6.9 MHz band during various evening bandscans; just YHWH on
7410; see ROMANIA [and non] (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST) See also
UNID 5150

** OKLAHOMA. 890, Friday November 25 at 1700 UT, KTLR OKC, `Broad Spectrum
Radio` with Serena Blaiz of Peace Buzz, on Islamophobia in Oklahoma, where
state rep. John Bennett held a session October 25 at the capitol on ``radical
Islam`` and accused some audience members of being terrorists. She goes on to
interview someone from CAIR, but cut off at 1714 UT for BST contact info, as
this is only for a quarter-hour. Perhaps we`ll hear it later on the WBCQ 7490
UT Friday 0030-0100 broadcast. More about the episode and link to original full
hour:

Is there anyway to know which of the ABC'ers I logged on 1062? 5MV is in
South Australia and 4TI is in Queensland.

The signal was poor, and i didnt catch an id, here's a clip though:

Olen havainnut että pöytäkoneista ja läppäristä itsessään ei tule
häiriöitä juurikaan vaan laturit ja virtalähteet on ne häiriön suurimmat
aiheuttajat. Sekä oheislaitteet ja niiden virtalähteet.

Hei.
Suunnittelen pientä artikkelia, jossa otetaan kantaa DX-kuuntelulaitteiden
ja tietokoneitten yhteisoloon.
Kysymyksiä:
1) Millaisella laitteella/ohjelmilla/tietokoneella kuuntelu onnistuu hyvin
(esim. Perseus, Studio 1, SDR console v3 yms.)?
2) Kuinka suuri kiintolevytila tarvitaan tallennuksiin ja millaiset levyt
toimivat tässä OK?
3) Paljonko esim. Perseuksella kuluu levytilaa MW-alueen (n. 1,5 MHz)
tallennuksessa, esim. 10 min, 15 min, 1/2 tuntia?
4) Onko kannettavilla havaittu lämpötilaongelmia?
5) Kuinka monta rinnakkaista ohjelmaa esim. FM:llä saatte toimimaan (esim.
Studio1 /SDRuno)?

Tässä vielä perusteita tutkitaan ... tärkeätä olisi löytää etenkin noista
halvemmista kannettavista se taso, jolla todella tekee jotain ...

Re: [HCDX] TP Report 11/25 & Video of my DX Spot

2016-11-25 Thread Paul
Hi Paul

1215 is definitely not New Zealand, the guy has an Australian accent. What
he's talking about is cricket and the weather. From what I heard he was
saying that the afternoon will be better than the morning.

This will fit with the station. The programme would be Grandstand and there
is only one station carrying this on this frequency in Australia. It looks
as though you have heard 6NM Northam, Western Australia with 500 Watts!

Now, someones pulled a rabbit out of their hat and suggested that the 1215 I
heard was not ABC Midwest & Wheatbelt's 6NM Northam, but possibly NewsTalk
ZB from New Zealand on 1215khz.

[HCDX] My Three Favorite TP Logs

2016-11-25 Thread Paul B. Walker, Jr.
My three favorite TP loggings form Alaska so far would have to be AFN The
Eagle 810, 50kw from Yokota Air Base Japan, AFN The Eagle 1575 5kw from
Misawa Air Base Japan and V7AB 1098 13kw from The Marshall Islands

In the first instance of logging AFN The Eagle 1575 on November 14th, it
happened at 1714UTC with Katy Perry's "Birthday" playing. Here is a 30
second recording:

http://www.onairdj.com/amdx/AFNTheEagle1575_11142016_1814UTC.mp3

After the Katy Perry song ended, I heard a break for public service
announcements and one of the announcements was two guys talking, and one
gave a phone number that sounded like 253-ACSC, but it's hard to know if
that's right through the jumbled mushy mess of a signal.

At the end of the break, I heard a liner voiced by a deep voiced male that
said "AFN The Eagle, Serving America's Best". Here's a recording of that
liner:
http://www.onairdj.com/amdx/AFNTheEagle1575_11142016_1817UTC.mp3

Here's one of 810 The Eagle form November 21st at 1851UTC:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DnRaSgEBJu4

Here's 810 The Eagle from November 22at 1843UTC:
https://soundcloud.com/onairdjpaulwalker/810november-22-2016-9-43-29-am

Hear that chirping type sound in the background? It was in one of the
original clips I sent you as well. I did some research into this, and as it
turns out, that's South Korea on 819khz running the infamous "Video game
jammer" trying to jam Pyongyang and the signal is so wide it spreads 8khz
down the dial.

This is what the video game jammer on 819khz really sounds like:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_Mb25e6IQrc=youtu.be

Here's 810 from November 24th at 1810UTC:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mROtw8UQ7nI

I had V7AB in at listenable levels for over half an hour on November 11
between 0518UTC and 0550UTC. The signal would fade down at times but I
would give this an overall SINPO rating of 35354. I'd rate this as good
because I was easily able to understand the music and the clips I uploaded
to YouTube garnered me 4 notices of copyright violations for the songs,
which were all correctly identified by their systems in the copyright
violation notices.

Here's a few clips of V7AB where the music is very audible and easily
identifiable:

The one I am most puzzled about is 1215.. looking in the ACMA database, I
get two listings...4HI Moranbah with 250 Watts and 6NM Northam with 500W..
that would seem near impossible to be heard up here.

I guess 1152 is 6PB. Not sure who 1134 is though.

Re: [HCDX] [NRC-AM] 5MV/4TI on 1062khz

2016-11-25 Thread James Niven
Paul,

From what I remember, the only way to ID the station in this case 5MV in South
Australia and 4TI in Queensland on the same frequency is via time checks given
if any are given at the time you are listening. Usually at the TOH or BOH you
may hear one.

South Australia is ½ hour behind Queensland in the winter months and then First
Sunday in Oct to First Sunday in Apr) ½ ahead due to daylight saving,
Queensland usually did not participant in this practice when I was living there.

Thanks

Is there anyway to know which of the ABC'ers I logged on 1062? 5MV is in South
Australia and 4TI is in Queensland.

The signal was poor, and i didnt catch an id, here's a clip though:

Dunno why I thought 1134 was an Aussie, it's not marked as such in my notes.

Moi,

ehdotan noiden lisäksi myös sitä näkökulmaa, että miten taistella tietokoneiden
tuottamaa pahaa rf:ää vastaan.

Hei.
Suunnittelen pientä artikkelia, jossa otetaan kantaa DX-kuuntelulaitteiden
ja tietokoneitten yhteisoloon.
Kysymyksiä:
1) Millaisella laitteella/ohjelmilla/tietokoneella kuuntelu onnistuu hyvin
(esim. Perseus, Studio 1, SDR console v3 yms.)?
2) Kuinka suuri kiintolevytila tarvitaan tallennuksiin ja millaiset levyt
toimivat tässä OK?
3) Paljonko esim. Perseuksella kuluu levytilaa MW-alueen (n. 1,5 MHz)
tallennuksessa, esim. 10 min, 15 min, 1/2 tuntia?
4) Onko kannettavilla havaittu lämpötilaongelmia?
5) Kuinka monta rinnakkaista ohjelmaa esim. FM:llä saatte toimimaan (esim.
Studio1 /SDRuno)?

Tässä vielä perusteita tutkitaan ... tärkeätä olisi löytää etenkin noista
halvemmista kannettavista se taso, jolla todella tekee jotain ...

Re: [HCDX] TP Report 11/25 & Video of my DX Spot

2016-11-25 Thread Paul B. Walker, Jr.

[HCDX] Trying to figure something out...

2016-11-25 Thread Paul B. Walker, Jr.
... One of my regular visitors is AFN 810 The Eagle from Yokota Air Base in
Japan, with 50,000 watts.

The signal can be quite good at times, but it doesn't last too long and
fades out to mush but often comes back

Also, it peaks about an hour before local sunset (sunrise is 1930UTC) and
is gone just as the sun begins to rise.

I know what it starts to break up at sunrise, that's obvious.. but it's
never really present before 1830UTC, why is that? It's still dark in Japan,
barely past Midnight local time, so one would think I could hear it well
when it's dark in both places.

Also why does the signal take such dramatic dives? Those dives happen
everyday.

I'm sure there's a reason for this and with the extreme cold I'm now
dealing with, I just like to figure this out so I can figure otu the best
times to go out and maximize the signal I hear/can get.

[DX] VOA Radiogram, program 191, 26-27 November 2016, all in MFSk32 except where noted ...

2016-11-25 Thread Kari Kallio
Hello friends,
Apologies to those of you who tried to listen to last weekend's Sunday 0230 UTC
transmission on 5745 kHz, only to hear nothing. The transmitter normally used
for VOA Radiogram was quickly needed to replace another transmitter. Regularly
scheduled broadcasts from the North Carolina station have priority over VOA
Radiogram, which is an experimental broadcast.
If you are in Europe and tried to listen to the Sunday 1930 UTC broadcast on
15670 kHz, you probably also heard nothing. In this case, it was bad
propagation, for the third week in a row. On the other hand, this transmission
was heard in western North America and even in Australia (see the images and
text decoded by Frank in Perth at the bottom of this email).

The Saturday 0930-1000 UTC broadcast on 5865 kHz is starting to be heard in
Europe via the gray line. If you are not in Europe but want to see how this
works, try the University of Twente receiver in the Netherlands:

http://websdr.ewi.utwente.nl:8901. Reception will, of course, vary from week to
week.
Because of the challenging propagation that we encounter this time of year, one
of the news items in this weekend's broadcast will again be in Olivia 64-2000.
This mode may provide a 100% decode even if MFSK32 struggles. For best Olivia
64-2000 performance, turn off the Fldigi squelch (SQL, bottom right).

Here is the lineup for VOA Radiogram, program 191, 26-27 November 2016, all in
MFSk32 except where noted ...

1:48 Program preview
2:59 GOES-R weather satellite launched*
9:40 Olivia 64-2000: Chinese lunar-orbiting satellite
17:05 MFSK32: 56-year-old radio amateur joins ISS crew*
21:33 Trump promise to rename Mt. Denali Mt. McKinley*
27:14 Closing announcements
* with image
Please send reception reports to radiog...@voanews.com.

VOA Radiogram transmission schedule
(all days and times UTC):
Sat 0930-1000 5865 kHz
Sat 1600-1630 17580 kHz
Sun 0230-0300 5745 kHz
Sun 1930-2000 15670 kHz
All via the Edward R. Murrow transmitting station in North Carolina.

The Mighty KBC has an expanded schedule this weekend. KBC's broadcast to North
America will be Sunday at -0200 UTC (Saturday 7-9 pm EST) on 6145 kHz, via
Germany. A minute of MFSK32 will be transmitted at about 0130 UTC. KBC will also
broadcast to Europe on Sunday at 1200-1300 UTC on 6095 kHz. A minute of MFSK32
will be at about 1230 UTC. This won't be audible in North America, but you can
listen via the University of Twente receiver in the Netherlands:
http://websdr.ewi.utwente.nl:8901. Reports to Eric:
themighty...@gmail.com . See also
http://www.kbcradio.eu/ and https://www.facebook.com/TheMightyKbc/ .

DigiDX has a new transmission schedule, both via WRMI Florida:

Sunday 2030-2100 UTC on 11580Khz (Targeted at Europe)
Sunday 2330-2400 UTC on 11580kHz (For North and South America)
See http://www.digidx.uk/ and https://www.facebook.com/digidx/

Italian Broadcasting Corporation (IBC) has digital modes as follows:

EVERY WEDNESDAY ON 3975 KHZ 20.30-21.00 UTC in MFSK32 and OLIVIA 16-500

EVERY FRIDAY ON 9955 KHZ 02.25-02.30 UTC in MFSK32

EVERY SATURDAY ON 1584 KHZ 21.25-21.30 UTC in MFSK32

EVERY SUNDAY ON 7730 KHZ 00.55-01.00 UTC in MFSK32

EVERY SUNDAY ON 6070 KHZ 11.30-12.00 UTC in MFSK32 and OLIVIA 16-500 (VIA RADIO
BCLNEWS)
For the complete IBC transmission schedule, including voice broadcasts, visit
http://ibcradio.webs.com/

Thank you for your reception reports from last weekend (or reports of attempted
reception).
Galleries from program 187 (29-30 October) have finally been sent out.
I hope you can tune in and write in this weekend.
