This answer has been on the Wiki for a week now! :-)

cf. http://openforum.worldvista.org/~forum/index.php?title=CPRS_Versions
(I also did a little cleanup and warned the user to use Konqueror, not
Mozilla, for accessing ftp.va.gov.)

I think once a question gets asked a couple times, the answer needs to
be specific wiki reference. Newcomers, as Nancy suggests, can contribute
in a major way by enhancing / clarifying / tuning the tools. And by
asking how to make each answer more difficult for the next traveler to miss.

Metaphor Each individual hacks his own path through the jungle. The
foot traffic beats a wider path if we follow each other's steps. We'd
better march together because soon and very soon, when VistA Office hits
the market, the demand will be four lanes wide. /Metaphor

get past the Spam filter. Dave, could you please have another go at making
this work?

Indeed!

The spam filter is preventing any edit to a page with a web reference.

 Spam protection filter
The page you wanted to save was blocked by the spam filter.
This is probably caused by a link to an external site.

The change log shows how much time User:Forummgr has had to spend
cleaning up after the vandals. Can the wiki allow broader privileges to
known, or veted members... or members of this list?

Is this wiki robust enough to carry our four-land-highway?

I tried to edit it but was also stoped by the Spam filter. But somebody already
manage to do it.

Still having problems with Outlook and the list, canĀ“t send messages from

they get answered. Well I think I have to learn to live with that.

[Hardhats-members] == Everything working - No Patients ==

2005-05-28 Thread Alberto Odor Morales
Hi again.

Now everything is working and the client (1.0.25.40) opens correctly. But there
are no patients in the patient list so I can't continue?

Am I missing something?
What's the next step?

I want to work with this as much as I can during the weekend.

Alberto

2005-05-28 Thread Joseph Dal Molin

Alberto,

No you are not missing anything. What you get when you install anything
other than the VA demo version is what you see. There are no patients or
organizational entities etc. The next step is really a long journey
you have to configure the system and that is not well documented. Search
through the many previous posts asking the same question and look at our
worldvista wiki pages you will find some answers ther. Hopefully you and
everyone else who is interested in the next step will collaborate to
help create the same level and quality of documentation that the VA has.

Cheers,

Joseph

Re: [Hardhats-members] Archives of Internal Medicine Article

2005-05-28 Thread Chris Richardson
Nancy;

There is drug/drug, alergy, and drug/food interaction associated with
orders (OR*). At the hospitals, drug orders are written by physicians
(bolstered by CPRS) and must be reviewed and signed by a pharmacist. Then
the point of care interface, Bar Code Medication Administration (BCMA)
system (PSB*) also is another check to make sure that the proper drug is
given in the proper dose at the proper time to the proper patient. The nurse
is the final check on the delivery of the drug and records the result of the
administration (dose given/patient refused/etc).

Please remember that the increased counts are a measure of looking for
these errors as well as having automated methods of the recording of the
dispensing of the drugs. The actual count of drug errors in hospitals where
these automated methods are not used may never be known. If drug delivery
cannot be measured in a meaningful way, no policy change is likely to have
much effect.

Subject: [Hardhats-members] Archives of Internal Medicine Article

The May 23rd issue of the Archives of Internal Medicine had an article
about
the high rates of adverse drug related events noted in a VA Hospital. The
lack of decision support for selection, dosing and monitoring was cited as
a
deficiency in the EMR that if corrected, might prevent some of these
problems. The presence of drug interaction checking was mentioned.

 The abstract is here.
  http://archinte.ama-assn.org/cgi/content/abstract/165/10/

It is my understanding that there is some decision support already present
in
VistA but it is less than the ideal according to this article

I doubt any record system out there is ideal, but I can see this as
something
that will be cited as a reason not to adopt VistA . I bring it to your
attention so you will not be surprised by this also so that we can work
toward adding more decision support to VistA with the help of the medical
 community as it grows.

I am hoping that the release of VistA Office and the web site that will
come
with it will be a place for the VIstA users to debate and contribute
specific decision support suggestions as well as templates, clinical
reminders, etc. I hope that users within the VA will also be willing to
contribute and that this will lead to improvements in VistA for everyone's
 benefit.
