Dear ,

It is hard to know what to say as we read in horror the reports of children
being separated from their asylum-seeking parents at the U.S. border. I
often struggle with how much information I feel capable of taking in and
the need to know what is happening. But I cannot look away. We cannot. We
must witness this atrocity and respond. Even when it seems hopeless or
ineffectual, our words matter. We must speak out in any way we can and in
any forum to anyone who will listen––which is how I think about prayer. I
don't know who or what is listening on the other end, but I must speak, I
must cry out. That's why I'm grateful that so many new prayers have found a
home at Ritualwell giving voice to the agony and moral outrage that so many
of us feel. We welcome you to submit
and
add your voice. And, most importantly, we encourage you to use prayer as a
way to strengthen yourself toward action. Whatever you are able to do, in
whatever capacity, is necessary.

*L'Shalom,*

[ha-Safran] New publication by Magnes Press

2018-06-19 Thread Yael Klein
Dear Sir/Madam,

I would like to introduce a new publication by the Hebrew University Magnes
Press:

Ta'am HaTe'amim
By Guillaume
Postel
Edited by Judith
Weiss

1552, the French Catholic orientalist and mystic Guillaume Postel (1510-1581)
wrote a messianic essay in the Hebrew language, aimed for Jewish readers,
entitled Ta'am HaTe'amim. This rare work sheds light on unique political and
spiritual stances common among the Catholic reformatory circles in the
sixteenth century, amid the strengthening of the Protestant Reformation.

Ta'am HaTe'amim is a unique example of Hebrew writing by a Christian scholar
during the early modern period, boasting surprising linguistic phenomena that
stem from Postel's theological outlook in general and toward the Hebrew
language especially.
