Re: [ha-Safran] Sad news

2023-07-17 Thread Lisa Silverman via Hasafran
Adaire was a mentor to everyone in AJLSC for so many years. We often would meet
in her home in the Pico-Robertson area. She taught a number of courses to help
those of us (like me) who were just starting out in the field. She moved to
Israel in retirement as she and her family had always wanted to do. I will
remember her fondly and donate to AJL in her honor.

My wife and I are saddened to learn of the passing of Adaire Klein, may her
name be for a blessing. I've known Adaire for many, many years, since I was in
high school. Adaire was a very kind and special person - she helped me expand
my knowledge of the Holocaust, especially when I was a student at YULA HS. When
I joined the AJLSC, Adaire helped me with programming events and gave me
guidance and mentorship in librarianship. Moreover, I have many fond memories
of Adaire and Manny hosting my wife and me many times, and being a grandparent
after my daughter was born. May Adaire's name be for a memory. Barukh Dayan

[ha-Safran] Etz Haim Gets an Update

*I found this on the weekly email JewishGen's Weekly News Nosh by Phil

*Built by conversos fleeing Spain, Amsterdam’s ancient Ets Haim library
gets an update.* Massive Encyclopedia of Jewish Book Cultures also underway
by Dutch publisher Brill, who says 31 institutions already purchased access
to the compilation to be complete in 3 years. The oldest book in Ets Haim
is a handwritten Mishneh Torah dated 1282, the oldest copy of the work and
therefore believed to be the copy most true to Maimonides’s original
language and intent. Read the story from Times of Israel: Built by
