Dear Talya We put stickers in the books which have fields to be stamped with the due date every time a book is lend. When a user is borrowing a book at the circulation desk we simply stamp the correct due date on this sticker. This is done manually, so if you also still are have a manual check out of books, it should be possible. [ha-Safran] Cataloguing/lending system
Dear Everyone We have a Jewish girls school here in Zürich, which is in the process of building up a library. For the moment it is still very small but they plan to expand. They are looking for an electronic cataloguing system or simply for a system, which permits lending books. The system does not have to be very sophisticated but it should be able to accept and to show Hebrew letters. I would be thankful for any suggestions and if possible also information about the costs. [ha-Safran] Transliteration question
Dear Safranim Can anyone give me an advise concerning the transliteration of the Hebrew „י“? The rules say, it is to be transliterated as „y”, since it is a consonant. But there are so many cases, where the consonant is followed by the vowel „i“. And there is also the case of the double „יי“. Here some examples: 1) Should Jerusalem be transliterated as „Yerushalayim“ or as „Yerushalaym“? 2) What about a name like Epstein. Should it be transliterated as “Epshtayin” or as “Epshtayn”? 3) And the word “קדמוניות“: should it be transliterated as „kadmoniyot“ or as „kadmonyot“? Thank you in advance for your help.
