Re: [hlds_linux] sv_region fixed in L4D?

2009-10-09 Thread f7 f0rkz
This is not fixed. Re-set our sv_region yesterday. Lobbies could connect
to the servers, but our steam community servers would not show up for
people.

On Wed, Oct 7, 2009 at 4:05 PM, Oliver Salzburg oliversalzb...@web.dewrote:

Yeah I know of the general use of the variable.
I just had it disabled after the Crash Course release.
I'll turn it back on asap and see if the issue is resolved.

 Richard Eid wrote:
You should. Without defining this, you do a huge disservice to the
 player
base if your server is public. It wasn't so much a problem in past
 games,
but with the way lobbies are sent to servers by Matchmaking, it has
 recently
resulted in a lot of Return to Lobby votes.

Setting up a proper region should ensure that players from one region
 don't
end up on servers in another. There seemed to have been an issue with
 this
during the Crash Course release, but by all accounts I've run across, the
  issue is resolved.

  public lobbies in it?
I've been told it's been fixed, but I can't test it myself ATM.

search key is working fine for me. And so are public lobbies.
  I haven't tried re-enabling sv_region.

Plugin chat should have its own mailing list, IMO. At least the plugin
talk is in some way directly affiliated with VALVe software and
updates One person looks for an employee here, another will...and
so on and so on. I don't think it should be permitted, VALVe already
tried shutting down the mailing list before...turning this into a source
for hosting companies to recruit isn't cool.

Re: [hlds_linux] [l4d] left 4 dead A2S_PLAYER query problems

2009-10-09 Thread Tomasz Formanowski

TF hi

DAP That's odd. Did you try restarting the server?

TF yes, i've even created new one from scratch (steam), with default
TF config.

DAP Also, your server responds with a challenge number if you use the
DAP A2S_SERVERQUERY_GETCHALLENGE query. You should be able to get one using
DAP the A2S_PLAYER-1 query also, but it just times out like you said.

TF well, i've tried it in many ways, in c++, java and php (bytes
TF conversion stuff) - still no go on all my servers (all linux
TF kernels = 2.6.22.16, glibc-2.8-6)

TF i'm pretty sure that i'm doing everything right, because hlsw can't
TF get player info too.

and btw: all servers stopped responding to player query on
29-30th of sept this year ...

No need to attack me or be a prick. Crying about a plugin for a VALVe
game is much different than using this mailing list as a job posting
board. Its great that you don't mind, I'm sure you wouldn't mind if
others on this mailing list added your email addresses to numerous spam

[hlds_linux] Is it possible to share HLDS and SRCDS ban lists?

2009-10-09 Thread Crazy Canucks
I host a number of different mods, from Day of Defeat, to Age of
Chivalry and a number in between. I'm wondering if it is possible to
share ban lists between all the servers?

I've looked at the files and the only difference I notice is that HLDS
has a 0.0 in the middle while SRCDS has a 0. I noticed when I
banned myself in HLDS it changed all the 0's to 0.0 but there didn't
seem to be any other effect.

Anyone else have experience with this?

Re: [hlds_linux] Game Server Manager Needed - Hiring

2009-10-09 Thread Crazy Canucks
In theory this guy isn't selling anything, in fact, he might just have
something to offer that some out of work Games Systems Admin might be
very interested in. I have no problem with it.

I suppose if the list was flooded with help wanted ads, it would be an
issue, but seeing as this is the first submission of this sort to this
list I have seen in the years that I've been subscribed to this list, I
don't think that is going to be a problem.

I think a few people need to extract that pickle from their butt and
relax a little...

Re: [hlds_linux] Game Server Manager Needed - Hiring

2009-10-09 Thread Rick Payton
If it's part of your e-mail signature - why not? But yes, a direct
advertisement for SELLING goods I would not want to see in the list. A
guy looking to hire an experienced game server admin or whatever you
want to call it from this list I don't see the problem. Besides, if he
does actually hire someone off this list, you KNOW that hired person is
going to stay reading the list, and asking for help in the future, or
commenting, or bitching about something like we all do from time to
time.

Besides, what BETTER place is there then a game server administrator
participating mailing list to post a job opportunity RELATED to
running game servers?

Re: [hlds_linux] Is it possible to share HLDS and SRCDS ban lists?

2009-10-09 Thread David A. Parker
I think Drek is asking about sharing a single ban list across all of his
own servers. He doesn't want to share a ban list with other people.

Isn't this the idea behind SourceBans? I have not used it myself, but I
think it uses a MySQL database to store ban information and you can
access that info from all of your servers.

Re: [hlds_linux] Is it possible to share HLDS and SRCDS ban lists?

2009-10-09 Thread ken
Sorry for trolling your post but, if you re-read his email he's not looking
to share ban lists with outside admins -- simply among his own servers.

Sorry, Crazy Canucks, I'm not sure if this is possible. However, you might
check into SteamBans.com, I believe that they're cross-game and undergo a
rigorous banning process (such that innocents are rarely banned). I believe
they also have plugins and/or mods to facilitate the use of their ban lists.

HTH.

Think he's talking about his own servers being able to share the banlists so he

Check out sourcebans if that's what you would like to do.
I use it across 15 servers at the moment.

 TF hi

DAP That's odd. Did you try restarting the server?

TF yes, i've even created new one from scratch (steam), with default
 TF config.

DAP Also, your server responds with a challenge number if you use the
DAP A2S_SERVERQUERY_GETCHALLENGE query. You should be able to get one
 using
DAP the A2S_PLAYER-1 query also, but it just times out like you said.

 TF get player info too.

and btw: all servers stopped responding to player query on
29-30th of sept this year ...

so he does not have to upload bans from each game.
Check out sourcebans if that's what you would like to do.
I use it across 15 servers at the moment.

Re: [hlds_linux] Is it possible to share HLDS and SRCDS ban lists?

2009-10-09 Thread Crazy Canucks
Thanks for the responses. I'm not looking for anything complex, and I
don't have large ban lists, and there is only one server running at a
time. We just run a lot of different mods.

All I've done is linked the lists to lists stored in a particular
location. I was just wondering if there would be any issues having the
SRCDS and HLDS ban lists in the same file. They appear to be pretty
much the same format.

I guess I'll find out... :)

are people still experiencing it.  Right now I have sv_region commented out in

I think I fixed it.
I renamed the cfg/ directory, redownloaded all the default cfgs, and
replaced the ones in my current cfg directory. Now the servers are becoming
reserved.

There's another interesting thing I noticed.

If you have sv_allow_lobby_connect_only set to 1, and you try to use a
search key, you get booted to the main menu with this error in the console:

Server error - failed to handle reservation request.

If you have sv_allow_lobby_connect_only set to 1, and you try to use a
search key, you get booted to the main menu with this error in the console:

Server error - failed to handle reservation request.

Disregard that too! -_-If I remove the +map option from my command line,
the servers do not start correctly.

 So, to sum it up:
I don't have any map/mp_gamemode/z_difficulty settings in any configs,
and removing +map from the command line causes servers to not respond once
 started.

I just realized you asked about the start command. Did you mean the
command line? I was specifying a map there.I removed it, and my
servers would not start up. I added it back. Now they start up, and
crash immediately after starting. I have disabled metamod/sourcemod and
 it's
 still happening.

I'd just like to note that the server is unreserved when people

I'm having this strange issue with my L4D servers.

People will connect to the servers from lobbies, but the server

I'm not sure what's causing it. It could be sourcemod, but I'm not
 sure.
  Has anyone seen this before?

Why don't you grow up? Every email you send it full of nonsense /
